[Archived] New Manager?

Amongst others.

Isn't Derek famous in Preston for giving Alan Irvine a big contract after turning down another teams advances, only to sack him and pay out a few months later?

I think he would be the one we would end up getting. West Brom fans weren't impressed.

If I recall correctly they replaced him with Darren Ferguson.. Is he currently in work?

You did well to remember all them.

Do you support PNE?

In all seriousness, I'd take Davies and both Brown's over Bowyer.

All achieved far more than GB ever will in management.

I looked them up as I remember him getting wrongly associated with appointing Moyes on too many occasions.

Do you mean Craig Brown, Billy Davies, Alan Irvine and Phil Brown?

I'd go for one of the middle two although not first choice. Craig Brown is yesterdays man and a good mate of Kean who between them landed us with Goodwille, wonder if Derek was in on that as well. Phil Brown goes down in the Owen Coyle mould for me i.e a complete dick.

I fear anyone who Shaw is allowed to appoint he'll have his fingers in the till on it he' done some very strange moves with managers down the years.

I'm amongst Shaws biggest critics, but it can't be easy appointing managers. They've all been sacked before.

I'd like Glenn Hoddle at Rovers but he acted like a fruitcake with England. I'd rather have a Sherwood or Shearer as opposed to Bowyer as they played to a high standard. Mcleish / Allardyce / Pearson you roughly know what you getting. Young and up and coming? Doesnt work for them all. Advocaat, Ranieri? Old school? Inter Milan fans think Jose is amazing, but Real Madrid were glad to see him go.

Moyes was a good example. Time served and very professional but completely the wrong fit for United. It's a lot about right place right time and catching a mood with so many people and factors involved.

Paul Lambert for me, starts from the back - exactly what we need. Experience of getting average squads out of this league, and available.

And our squad is distinctively below average.

He'd be my 1st choice.

Maybe a forlorn hope, but maybe he's desperate to get back In. once you're out of the management circles and out of the public eye, you're easily forgotten.

The guy we should have gone for was Warburton the minute it was announced he'd be leaving Brentford.

Presumably that ship has sailed as in the long term he should be able to build up huge momentum at Rangers.

2 other outstanding candidates for me if the vacancy arises: Gary Rowett and Pearson in that order. Whether either would be interested is anyone's guess but money in terms of salary usually talks and on the face of it Rowett is having to contend with even more trying circumstances than here at Birmingham.

Lambert would be a dream appointment, which means it will never happen

The sort of of appointment without Venkys we could easily make. But with them it will be very difficult. The issue is there are 10 or so clubs with similar resources in the Championship but most of them have stronger boardrooms, better owners and no embargo. He'll wait for one of those to come free rather than gambling his reputation here.

We probably need to be thinking about managers Derby, Notts Forest, Wednesday etc would not be interested in. Which is pretty sad.

Derek McInnes would be interesting. Doing very well with Aberdeen. Relatively young and level headed

I touted McInnes some time ago and was shot down. Scotland has become a decent breeding ground recently and invariably with a manager from north of the border comes a passion that we have rarely seen at Ewood in recent years.

Lots of managers have done good jobs north of the border only to fail when given an opportunity in England. Its a completely different game managing someone like Aberdeen in a Rangers-free Scottish Premier League compared to managing in the Championship. When he was given an opportunity in England he bombed at Bristol City.

Lambert would be a perfect fit for this club. If he had a point to prove after leaving Villa and went back to what he did at Norwich then he'd get the club and fans going again.

But we'll dilly dally until rivals snap up him and Pearson.

There's no guarantee of success for any manager in this league. Last season Mackay and Holloway failed, whilst Neil and Karanka succeeded.

Regardless of whether our change worked or not, we know where we're going under Bowyer. Might as well roll the dice at this point.

Having relative success on a small budget has to be one of the priorities for any incoming manager. Most of the managers coming from Scotland have experience in this area. I read a really good article on Derek Adams at the weekend. He has made a sterling start to his Plymouth career and his stock is rising.

Agree on this fella being a good manager (as is Derek Adams) but there is absolutely no way McInnes would come to Ewood. He has a realistic chance of winning the league up here this season and thus becoming a legend.

Agreed, we either go into league 1 with Bowyer or try and turn it round with a new manager.

That's it in a nutshell. If bowyer stays we are going down. A new manager can't take us down beyond league 1 so what's to lose if we change. I used to be worried by the question Who next? Now I really don't see that it matters. Nobody can do worse than bowyer is currently doing

Sorry Gumboots but I couldn't disagree more. It can get much worse. Whilst we are currently winless, if GB stays I still think we will stay up because Sunday proved the players still are at it for him.

Change a to a manager who can't get them on side? Instantly worse.

Change to a manager who can get the best out of these lot? Different equation altogether.

I personally think that the next appointment is going to be on of the most important in recent history.
