[Archived] Your Expectations

Recommended Posts

Hi, I help write a blog following Nottingham Forest, and The Championship in general, and was hoping you would assist by answering a question about your expectations this season?

Now that you've had chance to see how the team is shaping up, where do you think Rovers will finish this season?

If you want to give me a specific position in the table that would be great, otherwise you can choose from one of the following options: Top 2, Play-offs, 7th-12th, bottom half or relegation.

I collected similar information for an article before the season started (Blackburn fans 'average' expectation was 13th by the way), it will be interesting to see how this has changed for teams throughout the division now that the transfer window has closed. I'll possibly return in a few months to get another snapshot of your expectations, if you'll have me.

Thanks for your time and I'd really appreciate any help. Good luck for the season.

Forest Boffin

I'd say somewhere between 16th to 12th. We have some good players. The centre backs look good, as does Conway. Rhodes is always a threat. We know from previous years Marshall has talent, Barrow is decent, and Koita who we picked up for free looks a handful.

However we just don't look like scoring many goals. Rhodes is out of sorts and our other "strikers" - Koita, Delfanueso, Brown - are ones who lack any pedigree in scoring regularly and the viewing so far this season does not suggest this will change.

Also we have about 7 central midfielder in the squad but none of them - perhaps Apkan aside - look good enough to meaningfully contribute over 90 minutes. Also none of them, apart from Guthrie who looks to have fitness issues to me and will probably only manage half our matches, is in any way creative so we offer little through the middle. Our game is limited to "get it down the wings and cross into the box" which is distinctly less effective without Gestede to bash them in.

We've narrowly lost a couple, and drawn the rest. We've arguably had the better of the play in most games. However that means nothing if you can't create and finish scorable chances. We've struggled on both fronts.

If Rhodes gets injured long term I would downgrade us to relegation candidates.

It's a shame because with a decent manager, one quality centre mid and another striker with a scoring record we would be a decent shout for playoffs.

Our manager had the luxury of managing a team getting premier league parachute payments and one of the highest wage bills in the league and was barely able to cobble together a mid table finish.

Now we have no prem money, under a transfer embargo and have to bring the wage bill down in line with rest of the division. So with same old naff manager it's difficult to see beyond a relegation battle.

With the current set up, and based upon the garbage served up on the field so far this season, it is sadly not possible to see beyond a very torrid and disappointing season, with a likely skirmish with relegation to League 1. Bowlucks. Total, borlecks.

Get rid of the Venky morons and start again..
