Audax Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Romania sure had one fine chance there. Lloris, the GK and defence kept it out. Too late to change my pick, I have France 2-1; though Romania has matched a lot of these teams, they aren't there for nothing.

Stuart Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Looking to me like the officials are doing everything they can to help France. Some poor challenges by the French not resulting in free kicks.
MrT Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 What's with the Hoddle/Pogba love fest? GH needs to be careful he'll be spraying his shorts soon
darrenrover Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Foul on the keeper. Goal given. Foul Stuart? Dear me, keepers' ball all day, he just wasn't commited and got what he deserved.
Audax Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Now, we've got a match, 1-1, Romania converted their PK. I know everyone knows this, just updating the thread, 67th minute.
Stuart Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Looks like the tide has turned. Penalty given, goal scored, Griezmann subbed, no pen for France, Giroud booked. Went for the draw before the game but my dream team is taking a hammering this second half. Foul Stuart? Dear me, keepers' ball all day, he just wasn't commited and got what he deserved. It's all relative, dr. Just watch Giroud's arm on the keeper's arm. This is the inconsistency of modern football. 9 times out of 10 it's given in the keeper's favour.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 England fans clashing with police in Marseille again... Payet is such a good player
Backroom Tom Posted June 10, 2016 Backroom Posted June 10, 2016 Stunning stunning stunning goal Beautiful
davulsukur Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 What a player Payet is, absolute class. A goal worthy of winning any game.
Giant Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Getting back to the yobs, the TV pictures clearly show plenty of English low life goading the police, the locals etc. Sorry, but they deserve everything coming their way by way of tear gas, truncheons and water canons. Anyone who has any sense would be nowhere near them, and the excuse that they are only defending themselves is tosh. It's the same lot who cause havoc in UK town centres on a Friday night and get away with it. All power to the French police.
G Somerset Rover Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Not just Payet, Kante was absolutely phenomenal. Not a chance in hell of Leicester keeping him. He'd walk into the Madrid or Barca team.
matt83 Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 When the tear gas was fired during the day England fans were outside the queen Victoria pub, chanting away, usual scenes of any rovers away day pub pre match. Ie. Barely worthy of mention. As the old adage goes there is no situation so bad that the presence of the police can't make it worse and it was proved. In this case riot police made all the first moves. Not excusing the level of retaliation but hey. Then in the evening the locals and Russians goaded the English fans who retaliated no more. Not trying to sound like a scouser with their patented it's never our fault mantra but there's the truth about events beyond what our own media portrays. That is to say English fans drinking, usually attacked by idiots from other counties trying to make a name for themselves, England fans defend themselves, local police intervene vs England fans, England fans scum back page news Hopefully tomorrow there will be more football related news.
Audax Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Henry: Payet´s 2014 World Cup snub drove Romania performanceThierry Henry says Dimitri Payet's emotion after scoring France's spectacular winner in their home Euro 2016 opener against Romania proved how hurt the West Ham star was by his 2014 World Cup snub in Brazil. Payet was a mainstay in the France squad during qualification for the World Cup two years ago but did not make the final squad, though he was the hero with his match-winning goal in the 89th minute at the Stade de France. And France great Henry said the emotion he displayed in the Group A opener in Paris proved how hurt he was by the exclusion. "He thought that he was going to go the World Cup in Brazil. He was involved in every single qualification game," Henry told BBC afterwards. "They didn't pick him. You saw a man that was hurt on the pitch today. http://uk.soccerway.com/news/2016/June/11/henry-payets-2014-world-cup-snub-drove-romania-performance/n797174/
Audax Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Euro Quiz https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jun/10/euro-2016-ultimate-quiz-51-questions
Steve Kean's Hypnotoad Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 "That is to say English fans drinking, usually attacked by idiots from other counties trying to make a name for themselves, England fans defend themselves, local police intervene vs England fans, England fans scum back page news" That's been the formula for a long time now and anyone with half a brain should recognise it. If course there's a heck of a lot of people out there with their own agenda for getting at the English or who are highly susceptible to media persuasion.
Backroom Tom Posted June 11, 2016 Backroom Posted June 11, 2016 No doubt there is provocation but that doesn't excuse acting like an idiot. Videos of fans hurling bottles and chairs at cars driving past is poor. Photos of a lad in an orange t shirt getting a kicking off Russians and earlier in the day off the French, either he's got terrible luck or it's no major coincidence, either way he had a bad day! Hope today goes off ok there will be a few pints sunk before kick off time!
J*B Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 I'm sure England fans aren't all behaving, but last night from what I saw they/we are getting a bum deal. One minute you are sat outside a bar with French/Russian fans singing, everyone having a good laugh. The next minute Marseille fans run down the road kicking off, a minute after there is tear gas and riot police everywhere. How they are monitoring potential terrorists I'll never know...

It's the same lot who cause havoc in UK town centres on a Friday night and get away with it. All power to the French police. You need to be careful with this. You will only see on TV a patchwork of incidents designed to show us in the worst light possible.I'd prefer to listen to the thoughts of people actually there. There will be thousands upon thousands of good natured fans enjoying the atmosphere and small groups being baited by local mobs with the French police close by.
oldjamfan1 Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 There will be thousands upon thousands of good natured fans enjoying the atmosphere and small groups being baited by local mobs with the French police close by. Yep, they are well known for being experts at this down in Marseille. In fact my brother, who is a serving police officer, reckons they are a bunch of master baiters.
Backroom DE. Posted June 11, 2016 Backroom Posted June 11, 2016 Can't help but think the Welsh are overestimating themselves a bit. Without Bale they are an average side at best. If he gets injured at any point in the tournament they are going out. Tonight is our toughest group match imo. Beat Russia and we should be okay.
Stuart Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 England 4-3-3 Rooney on the right of midfield along with Dier and Alli. Lallana and Sterling wide playing forwards. Kane or Vardy? Would be Vardy for me as he has more bite but Kane gets the nod. Once again though we try to pick a formation first and then shoehorn the closest players into positions that aren't their best. At what point will we play our strongest players in their correct positions, and let the opposition worry about us?
