Commondore Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Much better Swedish performance than in the almost farcical Ireland game, but still just 1 point from a possible 6. Will need to beat Belgium in the last game now, a tall order. Italy wasn't as impressive when they faced a team that didn't given them space to counter attack, but rarely looked like conceding and is shaping up to be a real outsider for the tournament. Sweden needs to find simpler ways to get to scoring opportunities, almost every attack now consists of several moves and tricky short passes in front of the penalty area before trying through balls. At least central midfield had a good game, and apart from being asleep at their feet for the throw in leading to the goal I though central defense looked solid as well. Nilsson Lindelöf is a star in the making, great mixture between defensive and attacking nous for a full back. Martin Olsson did OK when on the ball, but went missing for the Italian goal and didn't pick up his player for their other scoring opportunity. Little has in other words changed since his Ewood days.

Backroom DE. Posted June 17, 2016 Backroom Posted June 17, 2016 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36558237 Decent summation from Shearer here, echoing a lot of people's thoughts from this thread yesterday. He's possibly been a bit unfair putting the spotlight on Kane but saying very little about Sterling, though.

"Jamie Vardy & Daniel Sturridge must start - Shearer" Glad to know my license fee is spent on such cutting-edge analysis.

Amo Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Worst thing is, the beady-eyed little baldy always tries to talk over the other pundits, like he actually has something to contribute.
matt83 Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Ha that just giving page is funny. If ever there was a worthy cause. Talk about a player that's gone backwards in 4 years at an alarming rate it's surely sterling. Some reports after the Wales game were along the lines of hailing roy as the gambler for half time subs. I thought the only real gamble was playing sterling after his Russia performance and non season in the first place. Same with Kane after Russia and his first 30 mins. I felt very similar to how I felt under bowyer other day in that there's a manager taking credit for an initial mistake in selection.
Gav Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Worst thing is, the beady-eyed little baldy always tries to talk over the other pundits, like he actually has something to contribute. You'll never be as controversial as TJ, stop trying Toppers.
Neal Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Some reports after the Wales game were along the lines of hailing roy as the gambler for half time subs. I thought the only real gamble was playing sterling after his Russia performance and non season in the first place. Same with Kane after Russia and his first 30 mins. That's exactly as I see it. I've made the point on here before that it's years and months of work to get here and you're only guaruenteed 3 games. Every decision counts and you cant afford to carry players performing the way Alli, Kane and Sterling have else before you know it you're out. Not sure about starting both Vardy AND Sturridge as you need options from the bench but certainly wouldn't be upset if he did.
Audax Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Flares on the field, likely by Croatian fans. Kick Croatia out.... well, maybe not but some of their supporters are thought to be among those bad kind. This is real bad, they are clearing a section of the stands.
Backroom DE. Posted June 17, 2016 Backroom Posted June 17, 2016 How are fans constantly getting flares into the grounds? Security... yeah, sure. Croatian fans getting into a mass brawl with each other.
Stuart Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 About a dozen flares on the pitch in the Czech - Croatia game. Good to see that while on a state of high terror alert the security services are preventing a potential tragedy.
Backroom DE. Posted June 17, 2016 Backroom Posted June 17, 2016 Croatia's fans kick off and disrupt the game, then their team throw it away. Deary me. Embarrassing all around.
Audax Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 This game changes so much with one goal, 2-0 Croats leaving, now the Czechs draw it up.
darrenrover Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 How are fans constantly getting flares into the grounds? Security... yeah, sure. Croatian fans getting into a mass brawl with each other. Having been at Wales v Slovakia in Bordeaux, the ONLY security search was for a suicide vest and that was half hearted. That said, there was never a hint of trouble for 2 days. Defo hats off to the Taffs.
Audax Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Croats still might get a goal in here, should be a lot of extra-time.
LewisF Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Yet another last minute goal. This has been a great tour man so far, let's hope it's not ruined by mindless fans
Gav Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 The daily mail are already blaming English fans for the trouble in the Croatia end 😉
Hasta Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Good. If the flow of the game hadn't been stopped by the pricks in the stand, Croatia would have walked that.
Audax Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 They haven't said how much added time here at least, should be at least to about 102 minutes. 12 minutes AET
Backroom Tom Posted June 17, 2016 Backroom Posted June 17, 2016 Scary moment when the man was picking up a flare and there was a huge bang and he went sprawling
Mike Graham Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Good. If the flow of the game hadn't been stopped by the pricks in the stand, Croatia would have walked that. Incredible last 15/20 minutes. Scary moment when the man was picking up a flare and there was a huge bang and he went sprawling Yep, I said to my missus "that looks bad" then he gets up like nothing had happened.
Audax Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 It looks like the fire was actually on the pitch at one point. I guess that was just the flare.
Backroom Tom Posted June 17, 2016 Backroom Posted June 17, 2016 Wow it exploded right in his face that could have been awful
