From a pool of 46 (if I recall correctly) professional players playing in the 4 leagues in England, and top 2 leagues in Scotland, I don't think we (Northern Ireland) can be too upset at getting to the last 16. The only negative is that a fantastic servant, Gareth McAuley appears to have signed out of International football in the worst way possible. A great achievement from such a small, and restricted nation. Plenty to be proud of, especially for a 'mince' (?) team....

The goal wasn't McCauley's fault. He was trying to clear it. If he hadn't made contact the Welsh lad would have.

Just got home from the scout hut beer festival to find an email from a director friend of a large French electricity untility company asking me to the Final as a corporate guest.

Er...Portugal haven't won a single game in 90 minutes out of four so far yet are through to the quarters.

I think the failures of previous England teams are hardly the fault of the majority of the young lads in the current squad. Let's not write ourselves off too soon GSR.
