England will need to score at least 2 to put France out, their attacking prowess with Pogba, Griezman etc will have our defence in knots, just cannot see us keeping a clean sheet.

All providing we don't slip up vs Iceland.

Germany 2 Ukraine 0

Germany 0 Poland 0

Germany 1 Northern Ireland 0

We've got this result but we also have these others to look at.

Slovakia had a real bad game plan I think; the announcers somewhat concur, they went behind, Germany never had to look back.

Germany seem to have gone up another gear today. Frightening for the rest of the teams in the tournament.

I couldn't disagree more, they're playing a Slovak side thats had its day in the group stages, they've been extremely poor today, this is one game to far for the Slovaks.

I've not seen anything so far today to worry an England side that plays to its potential.

But the issues could be, playing to its potential..

England got a bad deal in that South African World Cup game 2010; that Lampard goal disallowed, clearly a good goal. So, I really feel sorry for the German team if England are fortunate enough to face them. We've got a revenge motive.

Nobody has scored against them yet. Some folks' dream teams are scoring big!

I'm in that prediction pool; if you pick upsets, you get a lot more points.

I guess one can say Hungary allowed 3 points against them via Portugal, Hungary also hasn't lost to anyone.

Belgium is probably safe to win though; Hungary has had a real good tournament though.

Exactly. Nobody would have expected Hungary and Iceland to be the top two in that group. Austria and Portugal should have been in that position, odd one.

Don't forget that traitor John Terry doing a 1 man revolt mid tournament against the manager.

Horrible lying rat that he is.

And we will have their crap defence tied in knots with Ali, Kane, Rooney and sturridge

Martin O'Neill said Ireland had 3 less days of rest; admittedly, that may be the price between finishing 1st and 3rd and yes, maybe they were a bit tired vs. France with 6 days rest. You can't tell. Sometimes, a team can get cold too with too much rest. That goal from the start made the whole game interesting.

I hope the Magyars can do something.

I admire these teams even when they struggle against somewhat international powers in more ways than one.

All the big nations easing through it seems....but there's still Ingurland!

Lukaku looks very good in the deep role he is playing tonight.

As for England I am worried that we will be found out again for our tactics being too staid.

Pretty boring this extra round. Minnows being put to the sword.

But still, there's always tomorrow evening

Yep. If we beat Iceland, we won't be putting them to the sword like everyone else is.

We will make proper hard work of it.

Hodgson going for a Brexit double?

Has the team he has selected with its six changes ever played together before?

This Iceland outfit are probably lower half of the Premier League class while would this English selection be certain of qualification for the Champions League if it were playing in the PL? Of course in that context England should win but equally an Iceland victory is entirely possible.

If this England team 'clicks' they could very well win the tournament in my opinion and I've not thought that since Euro 96.

England's game tonight will likely go one of two ways. If England get an early goal in the way that Germany or Belgium did, it will open things up and could be a comfortable win by 3 or 4 goals. However, Iceland will park the sledge and if we fail to break them down within the first half hour or so it could be a long old night.

There's no way should England be losing to a country that could be obliterated with a hairdryer inside six hours.

As for the earlier game, bookies are offering 2/1 for there to be more than 2 goals in the game. I'm having some of that.

Apologies but I can't find the football, football, football thread so I'll stick it here as it's tournament related.

Chile beat Argentina last night on penalties to win the Copa America. It was a battle with both teams playing over an hour with 10 men. Messi missed the first Argentina pen. He was interviewed after and said that he's done playing for the national team. He's now lost 3 Copa's and a World Cup Final.

Back to the Euro's.

I read earlier that Sterling is back in for today's game. If he's firing he'll run Iceland ragged.

Hart

Walker Cahill Smalling Rose

Dier

Alli Rooney

Sterling Sturridge Vardy

I'd have kept Lallana in, yet brought in Sterling for Vardy.

I'm in the early goal camp. Get one and it will be a breeze. Don't and it will be nail biting.

I think England will win this, but Iceland will not lay Down and surrender.

MIght be an entertaining match.

more sceptic to Italy - Spain.

Think both teams will score. Italy is very good at counterattacks.

Sterling look like a little boy lost and offers us very little were lallana has high energy, gets amongst them and drives us forward

Lallana is arguably slower than Trevor Brooking and that takes some doing. He is neat and tidy but very rarely has a positive impact on the game, always has to check back as he can't beat a man.

I'd tend to agree, despite the tough draw, awaiting if successful tonight. England, Germany, Spain, France, Italy have all shown flaws and weaknesses. Nobody is unbeatable and games could be too close to call.

I'm resisting wearing my new Italy shirt, as believe it is cursed, worn it twice recently and lost twice (Germany and Ireland).

Hoping Conte can come up with a masterplan. He's been staying secretive all week and training in private.

Interesting article on their rivalry with Spain.
