England 1-2 Iceland

Danny Mills

Ex-England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

It was like watching Dad's Army, with Mainwaring in charge.

Danny Mills is an absolute ahole. He is the typical ex-player who has suddenly forgotten how he happily saw out his contract at Citeh while being in the reserves. Its all about the money for the two Danny's on the BBC.

Hoddle had England organised and playing attacking football. Just a shame Beckham wasn't sent off at Ewood the season before France 98. He might not have been so arrogant to think he can kick out and get away with it.

It all boils down to the FA set up and how our players are lorded as gods in the Premier League.

But you cant go back, Hoddle was tainted with that weird Eileen woman.

Give the job to Simeone

Waddle always has a downer on England, Geordie @#/?, he couldn't stand anyone matching his great 1990 team

To be fair, apart from Euro 96, we've been absolutely dire and disappointing. The players have been there, the mentality hasn't.

We played well in the group games for the most part, but tonight we need to single out Joe Hart who should never play for England again and Kyle Walker who despite being paid £80k a week can't mark a candle stick maker from Iceland.

The multi millionaires have quite simply let the manager and country down once again. Roy was on the TV before the game saying our tactics are to get wide and pass the ball quickly, we did neither, is that Roys fault that multi millionaire footballer can't do the simple things? follow the game plan? is it hell.

But he buck stops with the manager and he's resigned, step forward Mr fruit and Veg Arry Redknap, lordy lordy we're going back 25yrs, but if that **** Allardyce gets the gig were going back 40yrs.

The futures bright

France will have to be on guard;

Iceland has defeated England but also Netherlands too and drew with Portugal and Netherlands, they largely kept the Dutch out and Iceland had been knocking on the door of a big tournament appearance with the World Cup too. Now, they are in the Euro and they are making the most of it.

Yes it is his fault Gav. Utterly clueless. Get it wide?! To Sturridge? Left footed on the right wing. A striker. Time he checked back, took 3 or 4 unnecessary touches, half the population of Iceland was in the box.

I disagree, full backs static, been good attacking options in the group games, very poor tonight, the entire side looked like they'd been on the beer all week, not sure the manager could do anymore.

But my days of getting upset when England get knocked out of a tournament are long gone thankfully.

Pretty predictable really. Questionable squad selections, dubious team selections, unfathomable positional selections, in fact millions of selections every game. Four years and he still didn't have a scooby what his best team was, where he expected them to play and what he expected them to do. Absolutely pathetic and for the good of the national team I am pleased he has gone. Very lucky to survive the World Cup fiasco. In fact I've no idea why he was even given the job. Clucking useless just like the Venkys. Sign of a total idiot playing players out of position needlessly.

I'd love to go back to prehistoric times and watch an Allardyce England. Just for fun, but it will never happen. Players giving their all, fully committed, playing as a team, hard to play against, upsetting the biggest around. You'd get some suprise selections then. Lads who wanted to play for England for a start. Preferably tall. Plus Crouch and Carroll up top. Sambas grandma might be English?

What a terrible and embarrassing night for English football. The world is laughing.

Already seen pictures of Scots wearing Iceland bags.

The rest of Europe must be cocking themselves at us. Not a leader in sight at any level. Embarrassing.

The Welsh to the rescue?

Some say they are the true Englsih anyway as they ran to the Welsh hills during the various invasions, haha.

They'd have played better if they had been on the ale all week!

That was a team scared witless to make a mistake, a reflection of their manager. We got worse as the tournament went on*. Any idea what our best formation is? Nope, neither did Roy.

Edit * obviously, but we were well beaten.

Your hatred of Sam knows no bounds. You think an Allardyce team would have done any worse in the 3 tournaments Roy has had? get over yourself.

Hodgson has an appalling tournament record, and a very poor record at managing bigger clubs. His success at club and international level outside Sweden, has been at getting smaller clubs to defend deep and counter attack.

How many good saves have the opposition goalkeeper had to make in the 4 games we have played in this tournament?

Whats really galling about it is we really missed lallana. Someone who could run between the lines. We shouldnt miss someone as average an international as that but we really did because no one else was making any runs or linking play. It was all very slow and static. Whoever comes in needs to settle the side, get a good system and play at a quick tempo.
