Audax Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Steadying what? Capello's win percentage is better than Hodgsons. A team going into a major tournament that had no manager. Those were the circumstances of Hodgson assuming the helm. Capello left.

Norbert Rassragr Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Let's just have fun and hire Di Canio. England will always fail so let's get Paolo in so we can watch him punch Rooney.
Gav Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 You've really painted yourself into a corner Gav with your rigorous defence of Hodgson. You are the only one thinking he has done a cracking job. Even his bosses wanted him gone sharpish. I didn't bother reading the rest of your post because you clearly haven't been reading mine to post such bunkum.
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I think the winner of the Germany vs Italy game will win the whole thing.
Gav Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I think the winner of the Germany vs Italy game will win the whole thing. Good should Ribble, but I think Belgium could well be growing into the tournament, fine display last time out, but yes I think you're right, the winner will come from Italy or Germany, would have made a good final.
onlyonejackwalker Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I didn't bother reading the rest of your post because you clearly haven't been reading mine to post such bunkum. Harry Kane taking corners. Bunkum indeed.
Audax Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 The Belgium Hungary match had Belgium leading until the 78th minute 1-0 and then, Belgium broke it open. No one is really giving Wales a chance in that game. They might do it. Wales is a bit like Iceland in that people assume they are going to lose. Wales' match against NI has been called lacklustre.
Baz Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I think the winner of the Germany vs Italy game will win the whole thing. Italy are Germanys nemesis, and France are better vs Italy than Germany, and whilst Belgium have a great set of players, I think at times they struggle as a team and dont really have much of a tournament pedigree, so it's still all up in the air for me.
Pedro Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Last Euros I went to Germany didn't win a game, but obviously I take your point. Italy 90 and Euro 96 was our best chance, just fell short against really good sides. Anyway the search now begins for a new manager and the early talk is Gareth Southgate, god help us! nobody is telling me he's better than Roy. It is very uninspiring isn't it? I'd rather we went with someone with passion on their sleeve and will really throw themselves at it. I can only think of Big Sam and 'Arry in terms of English men.
bazza Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 How can you justify Wiltshire even being on the plane amazes me, let alone our saviour at half-time. In form midfielders left at home. Five changes, six changes, strikers out-wide, strikers in midfield, no width apart from full backs, the undroppable Hart, reliance on one season wonders with the likes of Defoe not even considered after an amazing season in a struggling side. Rashford gets four minutes to change the game so why even bother taking him? Stones can't get in ahead of those carthorses, Barkley unused when we desperately needed to beat a man and like others have said, an overlapping right back with an inside ball is hardly rocket science. England's all time leading scorer in midfield? Wales, Slovakia, Russia and Iceland? One win with 9 seconds to go? Conceeding against all and sundry? Doesn't know his best team, formation or style after four years as manager? What exactly are you defending? Possession stats against part-timers? Winning stats pre-tournament against Timbucktoo? Fact of the matter in the abscence of planning, structure and true belief, is any pseudo confidence generated pre-tournament dissipates immediately the pressure is on and the opposition don't simply roll over for their bellies tickling. It beggars belief. I could have picked a team to beat four world minnows. But I wouldn't have taken half of Hodgson squad. Sterling and Sturrudge have struggled to get a game for their clubs let alone England. I could go on but what's the point. No leaders and no leadership. That's why they couldn't pass it five yards. Wanky bottlers. Excellent post. Spot on OOJW. Everything that needs to be said.
Pedro Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Roy was at West Brom when he took the England position. Actually, it's too bad he didn't retire last year or at some time because otherwise, he'd be remembered as steadying the England team after Capello left. Some of the decisions were so strange and bizarre, one almost wonders if his assistants might have swayed the decisions. I think part of England's problem is we are consistently safe and steady. We need passion and belief and every manager since Keegan has been a mundane, tinkering coward (not that I rate Keegan in the slightest).
Stuart Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I'm sorry Gav, but I'm going to have to strongly disagree with the bit in bold. Wilshere, who's played 4 times in a year on at half-time for Dier? The squad selection is the reason we're out imo. Re the players, they did let the whole country down, but Hodgson simply has to take his share of the blame. We need to be made of sterner stuff and that comes from the top. Why the players keep freezing at tournaments is clearly in their heads but it needs to stop if we are ever to do anything at international level. Indeed. It's like Bówyà vu all over again. "The players have let him down".
chaddyrovers Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 The next England Manager will select by Martin Glenn, Dan Ashworth and David Gill. Glenn said The England FA are open to Foriegn manager.. I think Hoddle has been option. Experience at this level, Tactical good and knows the game. Southgate, Redknapp and Allardyce should be on shortlist. Its a big NO from me about us appoint foriegn manager
Pedro Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Indeed. It's like Bówyà vu all over again. "The players have let him down". It was exactly like watching a Bowyer side wasn't it? I said the same yesterday. All had a very familiar feel to me.

I agree that Southgate should be nowhere near the England team, Gav.Being the England manager used to be the absolute pinnacle of achievement for any club manager and they would choose that honour (as was) over any club job. The England manager simply must earn the position. Redknapp, Allardyce, Benitez (of the foreign potential candidates). There is a dearth of successful English managers. Promotion or ideally a cup win should be on their CV as a minimum.
Husky Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Come on Belgium! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36652412 Like a Preston pub when Man Utd or Liverpool score.

Allardyce and Arry have been managing for donkeys years and have 1 FA Cup between them, we want winners Stuart, or at least people that have some sort of success on their CV's or new ideas to bring to the table. Neal mentioned Eddie Howe a few weeks ago, I rubbished that suggestion, but looking through the list of candidates its not a bad shout, apologies Mr B.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted June 28, 2016 Moderation Lead Posted June 28, 2016 Come on Belgium! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36652412 Like a Preston pub when Man Utd or Liverpool score. Obsessed small time gimps. I hope Belgium smash the keaners.
Roverthechimp Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Call Lars Lagerbäck and have him work with Southgate 😂 The (know)FA are very keen on Gareth so he will be appointed in some regard - chuck in Lars and build a TEAM for the finals!
Audax Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 So, the news has been filled with stories on Shearer but nobody here as spoken on this. I know that is conventional wisdom but where has that gotten England? I'd consider it. Or Sam or some of the other names, Bilic has been mentioned in articles too. He did well for Croatia.
Roverthechimp Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Shearer - roflmao How about an actual manager instead?

Both have multiple promotions on their cv.Looks like Redknapp has already ruled himself out though - or knows he won't get a look in - given his comments since last night. Allardyce it is then.
joey_big_nose Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I bet its Southgate if they go English. I reckon it will be a foreign coach however.
