Some of the names being bandied about are awful candidates. To put it more simply, folk wouldn't be happy with them as manager of Rovers, so why would they accept them as England manager?

Exactly. There would be uproar if we appointed Southgate. What on earth qualifies him for the England role?

I liked Hoddle a lot. Thought we had a chance with him. But then he decrees that Owen isn't a natural finisher, disabled people are paying for sins in a former life and (Eileen whatever her name) was recommended for faith healing. No going back. Can only presume there is a lot of pressure in that job!

Wenger would be my 1st choice. International football requires possession and if blooding the youngsters who better than him. Why he would leave Arsenal however for this poisoned chalice is anyone's guess. $$$$$$$$ may swing it.

Would love Allardyce to be given a chance. There is no I or U in team and he would at the very least get us playing like one. Would love to see the squad and team selected and the mode of playing and see if it works. Can't be any worse than recent performances and at least we would have a concrete plan A, with alternatives to change it round. Might not win many away however ;) Some point out he has not won anything major with Bolton, Rovers, Newcastle and West Ham but that is a tad harsh recognising relative aspirations.

Mark Hughes is another good shout for me. Maybe I am biaised but I loved his work at Rovers and Stoke have remained steady away under his guidance.

No to another foreign import with little knowledge of England, its players and history. Nothing to do with race, more to do with communication and the essence of International football as I perceive it. Yes I know Wenger is foreign and Hughes is Welsh, but after 20 + years here they know the dance.

I cant see why Bilic or Lowe would want the job to be honest. Not really worth the hassle from their point of view.

Roy Hodgson's salary perhaps ? he was the highest paid manager at the Euros.£3.5 M per year

Jochim Low isnt going to be interested with Germany doing so well currently, but Bilic would be a good option, international management experience, knows the English game, speaks the language, passionate, intelligent and knows how to set up a defence

I must say Hodgson's offence at having to attend a press conference to discuss his failures, was beyond belief.

He said things like : "I thought my statement would be enough. I still don't know why I'm here. There's not much more I can say."

Unbelievable front on him.

First article is on Big Sam per Jermaine Defoe:

http://uk.soccerway.com/news/2016/June/29/defoe-allardyce-ready-for-england/n808245/

Arsene has been a club manager but whomever would get the results, should be given the nod.

Klinsmann has been a good manager but one can look at the USA's record and I think you will see it peppered with some losses that don't flatter, Jamaica? At the same time, they say, he has put a system in place and has stuck with it.

http://uk.soccerway.com/teams/united-states/united-states-of-america/2281/

But then, some would question the USA's ability per talent vs. England and Klinsmann's tenure is now, probably about 5 years old (August, 2011) which is often enough time to have managed an international squad and move on. Klinsmann always has wanted to manage in England.

Shane Duffy red card

Was it Duffy again going on another mental walkabout by being caught ball watching for France's second goal.

Mark Hughes would be a great choice but I'm not expecting it.

Great shout.

I suggested Hughes to a guy at work, who looked at me like I'd just groped his kids.

When the sponsors are picking the team, why do England need a manager?

You've spelt Raos and Rovers wrong!

I go for Allardyce or Hoddle or Redknapp as next manager.

We need experience and I dont think it should be young guy.

Howe or Pardew in 10 years time not now.

Dont want another FORIEGN manager as England manager.

Dont want another Sven or Capello.

No thanks

I feel that Hoddle has international experience, still a good coach and his knowledge is great.

I just feel the English manager should be 55 plus. Someone experience..

But I didnt know Pardew is 55 I thought he was still in his 40's.

Well, if Brexit makes the EU parliamentarians pull faces like they'd just smelt the worst kind of sh!t, I'd love to see those faces again after Big Sam has won us the next Euro Champs playing his style of football.

He's come across recently as an extremely arrogant man who cannot admit when he is wrong. Good riddance.

I wouldn't be opposed to a foreign manager, but it's sad there are so few decent English mangers to look at.

Woy has come across as pompous and out of touch.

His squad selection didn't make sense. As someone else said, it felt like the sponsors were picking the squad.

It's a bit like supporting Rovers, really.
