FGS5635 Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Don't mention the war. Haha feels like Basil Fawlty runs England at times

rigger Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 It would be refreshing, if for a change we went for a good manager!
Audax Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 That about Klinsmann, it's hard to see great progress in the USA during his reign. http://www.espnfc.com/team/england/448/blog/post/2904648/jurgen-klinsmann-would-be-the-wrong-manager-to-take-charge-of-england At least, that's the gist of this article but the press just has to get out a news article. If a manager is largely a stranger to the land like Fabio or Sven, there should be some doubt. If the manager is hardly a foreigner and knows the setup like Bilic or Wenger, it's not really an issue. ------------ It's really not logical with England, the formula is, one does well in the Qualifiers and you go to the Tournament. England does well in qualifying save a few occasions as in missing the Euro 2008.
donnermeat Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 See Ian Wright's got his silk nightie on again. Looks like something Steven Seagal would wear.
Paul Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 I'm going to be in the Fan Zone in Reykjavik centre on Sunday - should be fun.
Backroom DE. Posted June 30, 2016 Backroom Posted June 30, 2016 I find it funny when the likes of Bilic are mentioned regarding the England job. Literally no chance of him leaving West Ham to manage England. The national job in this country is a graveyard. Giggs was talking about modern players being robots, and the England team are the absolute embodiment of that. Even when things clearly aren't working they don't have the ability to think for themselves and change things. We just do the same things over and over again even when it clearly isn't working. It was the same in WC2014 when Uruguay, IIRC, were destroying us out wide and not a single player in the team had the foresight to close off that avenue before it led to a conceded goal. The captain should be able to address these things, but neither Gerrard then nor Rooney now were or are able to do so. Being a leader on the pitch isn't just about shouting and trying hard, it's about being aware of the game, reading it intelligently and being able to alter things temporarily to stop dangerous situations from happening. Since Terry retired we've had nobody with that ability and in the last two tournaments it has cost us dearly. The manager unquestionably carries the can and Hodgeson has done his best to sabotage us in 2014 and this year, but the lack of awareness in our team to read the game as it is progressing should be a very serious concern.
Paul Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Re the above this is an indictment of the modern game. The players are given a game plan and expected to stick with it. If neither the manager nor the players have the ability to react to a changing situation they will almost certainly lose. Real athletes and sports people react to what is happening around them. Most modern footballers are incapable of this. Watching Poland v Portugal - these commentators talk total nonsense.
Husky Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Let's play the P.K. Fabianski was awful at trying to save penalties last time around.

Al Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Is there anyone here that doesn't dislike Portugal? No but it's basically because of Ronaldo.
Neal Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 I cant see why Bilic or Lowe would want the job to be honest. Not really worth the hassle from their point of view. Bilic refers to England as "we" and Low might just want a new challenge afyer winning all he can with Germany. That aside, i can think of one reason why they would take the job.

Backroom DE. Posted July 1, 2016 Backroom Posted July 1, 2016 It's hard to believe Portugal are in the semi finals, they are dreadful. Says more about the tournament than them, imo. The expansion has definitely caused a dip in overall quality.
Audax Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 I'm certainly cheering for Wales, there's always someone who hopes the other home country loses unfortunately. So, I don't hold that against them if there was that video showing them cheering England losing. If Wales have the guile to show their countrymen how it is done; more power to them. I saw that photo essay where Rooney was off to Ibiza in the sun, Collette (or whatever her name is) appearing to be drinking champagne. That was frustrating to look at after this tournament. A bunch of primadonnas. It's time to stop feeling sad about these England tournament appearances and feel some disgust. I say this with mixed feelings because their qualifying campaigns have been very successful.
bazza Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Cummon the Boyos. Give Brussels a second stuffing in a week!
A cup of beans Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Hope Kean's mate and the anti English Welsh are in tears before half time.
A cup of beans Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Ironic really, when you consider theirs a few Englishmen in their squad.
