Mike Graham Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Has this game been moved back a day (I have not seen it covered elsewhere). If so I am rather naffed off. Planned a training session in Wigan on Tuesday and Wednesday so I could attend and take along 12 others from the course. I will miss the game with it being Weds. Makes you wonder why you bother having a ST with all these changes.

Mattyblue Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Moved to Wednesday as Derby's game this weekend is now on Sunday for Sky. Shed load of Championship games are on TV this season. Box Office stuff obviously!
Mike Graham Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 Thanks Matty. I actually tried to book the Dunkenhalgh for 18 people for the Tuesday night but they had upped the price because "Rovers were at home and they have a big game against Derby"!!!!! They lost the booking. This is another game I will unfortunately miss.

Paul Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 The change from Tuesday to Wednesday was announced before the end of July! This is the first I'd heard of it. Rovers website says we play Leeds away on THURSDAY October 29th. That's got to be a first? League football on a Thursday!

AllRoverAsia Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 The change from Tuesday to Wednesday was announced before the end of July! Really? no one told Leeds. They only announced it on 28th August: http://www.leedsunited.com/news/article/6szu0my0xx6rzbns8ji1f5nm/title/blackburn-home-fixture-moved-for-tv
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted October 16, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted October 16, 2015 The change from Tuesday to Wednesday was announced before the end of July! Really? I knew it was midweek, but had no idea it had been announced that far back!

The move from Tuesday to Wednesday was announced on July 30th when Sky released their TV matches.

AllRoverAsia Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 The original post and my response is about the Derby home game next Wednesday. The move from Tuesday to Wednesday was announced on July 30th when Sky released their TV matches. Ooops.
arbitro Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 The new Sky deal for the Championship kicked in tihs season and live matches seem to be on at various times between Thursday and Monday nights. With Sky losing out to BT for the Champions League it seems that they are trying to fill the void with Championship games. The problem for the clubs and fans is that there will be some strange days when they play. If you recall the ill fated ITV Digital debacle they had clubs playing on Thursdays and also on Sundays with 6.15 kick offs.
JHRover Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Derby has been moved back to the Wednesday because they are on live Sky on Sunday lunchtime, and for some reason Derby are incapable of playing on a Sunday lunchtime and a Tuesday night (2.5 days recovery time). So Rovers, being the good and obliging hosts as ever, have inexplicably agreed to put the game back to Wednesday night to assist Derby in their recovery and preparation. The knock on affect of that shift is now that we are playing on Wednesday night, and host Burnley on Saturday lunchtime. So in helping Derby to have an additional day recovery we have ourselves lost a day, and now will have only 2.5 days recover ourselves ahead of our biggest game of the season against Burnley. Anyone else scratching their heads at this stage? So not only are we daft enough to agree to give Derby more time ahead of their game with us, we've also harmed our own preparation for the Burnley game in the process. Sometimes I really do wonder what the hell is going on at this club. Do we enjoy shooting ourselves in the foot?

JHRover Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 ..the players should be able to manage four games in a week after having two weeks bloody holidays ! bloody spoilt ... I'm not arguing with that, but on that basis there is absolutely no reason for the Derby game to be put back to the Wednesday. Presumably Derby insisted that if they were on tv on Sunday then they wanted to play Wednesday rather than Tuesday to give them more preparation time. Completely understandable. What club wouldn't want to give their staff and players more time between games? Rovers, through a combination of ineptitude and couldn't care less attitude, have allowed this to happen. The outcome is that we now face the same window of preparation that Derby should have had, ahead of a massive game against Burnley. Scandalous.

Teams in every league in world football play Wednesday then Saturday fixtures. It's not an issue in any way shape or form.
Mattyblue Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Surely tiredness won't be a factor when playing your local rivals in October?
Ricky Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 But we didn't need to put ourselves in the position. That's the point. We've basically offered to weaken our chances in two games.
Mattyblue Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Oh I get the point, Rovers are renowned for being a soft touch, however the emotion of derby game should mean we get away with it.
arbitro Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 ..the players should be able to manage four games in a week after having two weeks bloody holidays ! bloody spoilt ... It's not just that though is it. What if Jordan Rhodes (or any key player) got a knock and needed a bit more time to get over it. As it has been eloquently put already we really are our own worst enemy at times.
JHRover Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 But we didn't need to put ourselves in the position. That's the point. We've basically offered to weaken our chances in two games. This is exactly the point. I have no gripe with playing three times in 7 days. Everyone else has to do it. My gripe is that we have taken a hectic fixture schedule and agreed to make it even more difficult for ourselves, to the subsequent advantage of our opponents Derby and Burnley. The original schedule was that we were playing Saturday v MK Dons, Tuesday v Derby, Saturday v Burnley. No problems there. Pretty much a full 3 days between games and nothing new. To assist Derby County (who wanted more time between games) we have allowed the fixture to be put back to Wednesday, which immediately results in Burnley having 24 hours advantage over us for recovery and preparation ahead of the biggest game of the season. Why have we done this? We didn't need to. We could have turned around and said 'tough' and made Derby play on the Tuesday night as originally planned, and capitalised on them having less time between games. What happens if (heaven forbid) Rhodes takes a knock against Derby and needs as much time as possible to rest to be fit in time for Burnley? Thanks to the numpties running things he won't get that, because we've agreed to shift our game back a day. But that would be sensible and doing the best for Blackburn Rovers rather than just being good boys and doing what others want us to. I bet Derby are laughing at us now. Can't believe that we'd actually go along with such an arrangement in such an important week.

You could also say, what if Rhodes gets a slight knock against MK Dons, and needs the extra day to recover to play against Derby, which he then does, and goes on to score the winning goal, would Derby be laughing then?
oldjamfan1 Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 You could also say, what if Rhodes gets a slight knock against MK Dons, and needs the extra day to recover to play against Derby, which he then does, and goes on to score the winning goal, would Derby be laughing then? Fair enough I suppose but I think the point is, its who we play in the following game, and the fact that is the game we have reduced our recovery time for, that is the baffling decision, all assuming that we did have a say in the matter and weren't told by the powers that be to move it.
Tris Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 The reason the midweek fixture gets moved back for teams who play on Sunday is so blindingly simple I can't even believe that the discussion above exits. Playing Sunday + Tuesday only allows a single day between competitive games. Playing Wednesday + Saturday allows both Thursday and Friday in between. So in terms of recovery / rest / training there is no comparison - every manager and every player will want two full days rather than just one. People suggesting that this is "scandalous" or Rovers have capitulated to Derby's "demands" are talking rubbish! It's the same protocol for every single team in the league when Sunday games are followed by a set of midweek fixtures. In fact Rovers were the beneficiaries barely a month ago after playing Fulham on Sunday. Imagine the mass ranting on here if QPR had turned around and refused to move our game with them from Tuesday to Wednesday night, citing their tricky away game in Hull 4 days later as the excuse!
