SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 The old Ewood Park under floodlights. Standing at the back of the Blackburn End warm as toast in deepest winter, the smell of woodbines and Hamlett cigars. The nostalgic Tram lines on Kidder St. People running the club who REALLY cared about it. It really wasn't all that bad back in the day was it folks

the original david brent Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Pre match in the Blue n Whites Club... then the Waters Edge Think we are all getting a bit melancholic. Where was the blue n whites club? I'm presuming before my time. I remember the waters edge - really good boozer - like a wetherspoons set up.
Mike Graham Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Where was the blue n whites club? I'm presuming before my time. I remember the waters edge - really good boozer - like a wetherspoons set up. Opposite where MacDonalds is now. It was a great little club, and independent of Rovers despite the name. I still have a BWSC badge somewhere, some folk used to think it was Bolton Wanderers when it was "blue and white".
Exiled in Toronto Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 When the home end was the Darwen End Trips on the League Liner Halifax away on Boxing Day

The nostalgic Tram lines on Kidder St. People running the club who REALLY cared about it. It really wasn't all that bad back in the day was it folks Never smoked but the cigar smell at a night match is a big memory. Walking from Darwen End to Blackburn End passing away fans en route. Away games at Burnley with both fans divided by police on Longside. That record breaking game v Bolton with over 30k on Burnden for a night match...Faz got late winner.

47er Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Great thread. How things have changed----not for the better in many instances. Watching 2-3-5 lineups which often produced 100 goals+ a season. Being so proud of locally born players coming through. Crossing over from one end of the ground to the other at halftime. Paying next to nothing for a season ticket. Standing with literally dozens of schoolmates. Rushing home to get the results and summaries on the radio. Waiting impatiently for the Last Pink to come out. Many other memories some of which others have listed. Good old nostalgia!
Gav Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Sport Pink The excitement I used to feel just going past the ground on a non match day, match days were off the scale, excited from Wednesday onwards. Abbey village Abbey village na na na na na nah! Millbar and waters edge. 5am Virgin trains to London, no beer till Wigan was our rule.
tomphil Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 It's a shame a lot of the old songs are seemingly gone for good. Nothing better than being many miles from home 2 nil up on a freezing afternoon down in the smog singing the 'Super Rovers from the North' one as has been mentioned. There was some great things belted out, christ even refs get off lightly these days, gone is the 'who's your father who's your father referee ' and all the rest
1arC Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 What about the Easter fixtures when we played Good Friday and then Easter Saturday. If my memory serves me correctly it was Oldham one year and we got badly beaten away on the Friday and hammered them on the Saturday. Perhaps someone could confirm that, as it is one of those that I think happened, but it may not have!
LWX Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Chips and a sasparella in town earlier on in the day, walking down from my grandparents house by the infirmary, the streets around ewood buzzing, scott sellars was my favourite player from when i started going... aaaah happy memories

The following day BRFC 1-1 Halifax. I am fairly sure back to back games took place over Easter for a while.

rigger Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 When the only rovers shirt you saw, was worn by a player, but everyone had a scarf. Port Vale car park, waiting for the Plymouth result.
1arC Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Seems like only last year... Sorry 1973/74 Season. I was getting carried away with all the excitement!
Hanks Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Chips and a sasparella in town earlier on in the day, walking down from my grandparents house by the infirmary, the streets around ewood buzzing, scott sellars was my favourite player from when i started going... aaaah happy memories My Grandad used to take me and the first thing we did after getting of the bus into town was to go to the Sarsaparilla stall. Who remembers the bloke who come round at half time and put the scores up from all the other games by slotting metal plates into a wooden frame. The excitement as he walked past the front of the Blackburn end and he would let you know if Burnley were losing before he put the scores up.
Mattyblue Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 When the 'club shop' was just a woman behind a counter with shelves containing bits and bobs. When players used to sprint out the tunnel. Feeling like a boss if you had a meal in in the John Lewis Complex Watching the future champions train on Pleckgate field near my old house (and Pleasy, of course). As a kid, going to away games on the old Darwen Blues 007 Bus with either Roy Chubby Brown or porn playing on the coach TV.

AJW Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 collecting 10p's off my Uncle's mates everytime they swore in front of me ... made a fortune one trip to Wolves
scotty_beam_me_up Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 The time cadburys were giving out "applause" chocolate bars before the game and the away keeper got pelted woth them after half time. I was about seven and took home about 50.
tomphil Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Watford I think it was, funny though armfuls of little bars being chucked into the crowd then wazzed immediately back. The old 'bang, yee haa' that followed every goal kick was quite entertaining as well.

tomphil Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 The time Watfords coach got lost and the game was delayed 1 hour and everyone just stood around chatting and freezing till it kicked off at 4pm. I wonder how many would hang around these days
wellesbourne Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 The time Watfords coach got lost and the game was delayed 1 hour and everyone just stood around chatting and freezing till it kicked off at 4pm. I wonder how many would hang around these days The camardaderie on the BBE was one of the reasons we stood around chatting waiting for news on what had happened to Watford !
wellesbourne Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Whos your girfriend Who's your girlfriend Wimberley..... Who's your father Who's your father referee....... The wit of the back of the BBE. Massive away followings with Rovers - wrexham away; chesterfield away; bury away; More fans travelling than we had home fans on in HK's promotion season. Lancs Manx cup games - running the gauntlet of Burnley away but still managing a few Benny's in the KSC Club. Standing as a kid on Charnley St and watching the away fans being escorted from the stations....... Seeing Garner's magic goal haul vs Man City and then getting home to find out about Hillsborough............never forget that one.
