[Archived] Bowyer Sacked

Recommended Posts

Couldn't care less what the pundits think, nobody ever does a bad job in the cosy football industry.

Lambert does take over, we go on a run and the very same people will be all: 'it was time for a change, Lambert is showing the experience of a man that has been there and done it'. etc etc.

p.s. Always grates on me when Gallacher and Garns refer to us on the radio and in print as 'Blackburn', just seems odd for a local like Gallacher and someone who spent so much time at the club in SG.

There's a whole host of them like that.

Gallacher always seems to look back more fondly on his Newcastle days than his time at Rovers. I'll never forget when he was writing in the Lancashire Telegraph singing Mark Hughes' praises and stressing the importance of us hanging on to him yet simultaneously was writing in the Newcastle press suggesting that Hughes would be a great manager for them.

Sherwood is another - captain of our league winning side yet always seems to be more associated with Tottenham than ourselves.

Shearer obviously is more fond of his Newcastle days than his Rovers days.

Chris Sutton clearly puts his time at Celtic above his time at Rovers, as seen with his Celtic dominated autobiography.

The common link is that all the above became famous at Rovers, and none of them went on to match or better the achievement of winning the league at Rovers.

Its hard to celebrate anyone losing their job. Classless Scottish chancers aside. No hard feelings. He was fully supported on and off the field and snide comments of late aside, he conducted himself with a degree of dignity. He's now a millionaire, will get work elsewhere probably lower down and we can pick up the pieces, further strengthen and hopefully crack on.

My view, is he helped in keeping us up. Vital at the time. Cheers.

The full time job however was gifted due to chaos at the club and he was then presented with an amazing opportunity. One he sadly wasn't up to. Learning on the job is always tough. Another club may benefit from his development here.

I've been one his earliest and biggest critics. My main gripe being his insistence on conceeding as many as we score. Always seemed a silly strategy to me and I bored of his teams, their attitude and lack of true desire very quickly. He was very, very poor defensively. The goalkeeping situation, right back, insistance on long throws from left back, Hanley as Captain, Baptiste, Lowe and Williamson as your anchors, etc. We've been all over the place and all and sundry have found it easy to score against us.

Strangely, on field I've warmed a little to him of late. We've looked a tad more organised and resolute in defence. But that should have been his immediate focus, especially with a striker already in place. I wonder how bright he truly is.

To those keen to defend his work here, presumably he'll be snapped up by a footballing superpower very soon. To those defending his personality you genuinely have to wonder how he survived when all and sundry were potted during the chicken revolution. Must have been good pals with that Scottish two hat and able to turn a blind eye to many disgusting events. On the regression debate, despite being regularly 20 million over budget each year we were slowly falling down the league. Never in contention at anytime with automatic promotion, but far more damming, rarely even in reach of the play offs. A very poor start to this season in both cup and league, putting the smart money on an even lower league placing this time round.

Ciao Gaz. Wish you had given it a right good go.

Correct, we are the original and one and only

ROVERS

As validated by hashtag #rovers

Just heard Sutton's comments to Radio Lancs, it's more of the same. They have really bought into this embargo excuse that the LT and others have built up.

So, it's the fans and Venky's in agreement... Bowyer had to go :o World is against us, lads and lasses!

I think we can all agree Gary was ill-equipped for the role he found himself in, in particular being too cautious and not being able to positively affect a game through tactical switches or substitutions. But there are some positives from his reign: we didn't get relegated again; are doing better than Bolton, who came down with us; didn't lose many 5-2's at home unlike the Tom Cairney inspired Fulham last weekend, and we have enough decent players to form a nucleus of a team that can make a run at promotion. That's not a terrible legacy.

Much of the ire against him has been for periperal reasons imo: what he said; demeanor on the touchline; not getting us promoted because the money would run out, last window of opportunity etc. None of that mattered.

The new guy has fewer exuses to hand than Gary did when he took over, that's for sure.

Reads like you can't wait to get stuck into him, whoever he is!

Sutton should stick to his beloved Celtic even Celtic fans think he's a twonk

He sounded very uniformed about what's been happening under Bowyer , talking like he's in the managers union. Strange really as every time I heard him co commentate on Rovers last season he was questioning the gaffers tactics, style of play, lack of movement and forward passing and subs like the rest of us. Just as Gally always has as well.

The whole LET Rovers' section needs a revamp IMO. Bayes, for example, gave GB the easiest ride of his life and then I saw a tweet yesterday along the lines from him of "probably the right time to let him go". Couldn't make it up.

Except that you've made it up about Bayes having anything to do with the LET ...

He is an ex pro and manager who has a different opinion to yours, so you write off everything he did for the club? Classy.

Everything he said about the embargo is true, it's not really outlandish.

The sacking of Gary Bowyer surely sees the end of the myth that somehow he was immune from action by the owners. The sacking of 5 managers in 5 years suggests that they are quite ruthless in their pursuit of success.

I do want to wish Gary, his backroom staff and not least Gary`s father for their efforts on behalf of the club and wish them well in the future.

As for the new man then he must work under the dreaded embargo before the club can begin to make real progress and in order to lift that then some transfer dealings will have to take place in January. The new guy is going to have tread very carefully and I for one dont envy him!

As for choice of manager then for me David Moyes wins hands down. Surely the choice of Alex Ferguson to succeed him at Old Trafford to come to Ewood would be a huge coup.

Also working in Spain he has had the opportunity to see a lot of talent who could be persuaded to come here either on loan or sensible money.

However, I will support whoever is chosen and wish him every success.

Pretty sure this is a wind-up post but...

Not sure any owners who employ such a shambles of an Exec structure and decision making process at a football club can ever be accused of being "ruthless in their pursuit of success"! Quite the opposite!

Also, Kean wasn't sacked.

Agreed that everyone needs to back the new manager.

It is a bit weird that neither Bowyer nor any of the players (to my knowledge) have said a word? Shane Duffy is a somewhat prolific tweeter, but not a word on this...

Tom Lawrence evidently not fussed. No word on Bowyer's sacking, but there's a golfing opportunity afoot...

Akpan tweeted four emojis similar too ':mellow::mellow::mellow: '. Not sure what they suggest really.

apart from the two years previous Bowyer had money and not in embargo, the thirty odd players he brought in etc, still makes a good story of how badly he's been treated.

Wasn't that more ' :huh::unsure::huh::unsure: ' ?

i thought they were more :xmas:

:

As pointed out on another threat he has had about 3.5 million spent over 2 years. Whilst slashing 10 plus million off the budget and bringing in over 15 million in transfers.

The number of players brought in is irrelevant, it's quality and you don't get it in the freebie bin.

Surely it was Shaw, or whoever negotiated the payoffs, that 'slashed' the wagebill?

As also pointed out a lot of money was also spent on players he subsequently inherited and its a fact all these players he actually signed get paid hefty wages which have contributed to the circa 20 million losses each and every year Bowyer has been plodding about with us in mid-table.

If Bowyer is a s good as some think, operating under such tough circumstances, then he will soon be back in work, presumably much higher up the league table. Personally I doubt that very much, but time will tell.

Still no word from Bowyer? Thought he may have thanked the fans that supported him at least.

Hiding under a stone?
