[Archived] Bowyer Sacked

Recommended Posts

My only gripe wiht Bowyer was we could never really defend as a team and hold on to leads. Possibly due to the midfield problem and loss of player form. Evans, Hanley etc the season before where we could have made the playoffs. Also, when we attacked, someone remember the 4-3-3 formation that Bowyer played and it worked of brilliantly. Maybe against Leeds, correct me if I am wrong. I personally felt Bowyer lacked self belief/confidence in himself and his players. He seemed to get us playing better this season and we were better defensively as well but unfortunately draws dont get you playoffs. Ben Marshal at right back, while it did make us better we did not see the curling outside or in the box efforts and goals that he got a couple of seasons ago. Like stuart rightly pointed out Rhodes and Gestede complimented each other hence the 40 goals a season strikeforce. Jordan Rhodes still scores goals (he has missed some sitters before as well)but the problem this season is nobody else is contributing. Tom lawrence missed some sitters too. Just like King, he is not the finished product yet. Duffy could have been Blackburns top scorer this season if he had taken half the chances he got to head the ball into the net. I only voted Bowyer should be sacked because of his inability to get the most out of the current squad and his midgame tactics. Hopefully Lambert will be a vast improvement on that.

Beyond relieved that the move was made.

As I am sure the Bowyer supporters are relieved at no longer trying to defend the indefensible.

That said Bowyer did a sterling job in holding the fort at the beginning of his tenure and stabilised an appalling situation. In the final analysis his shortcomings as a Manager were just too glaringly obvious. Glad that the Venky's finally found a Plan B- Bowyer never did in all his games in charge....

Stuart Pearce was on Talksport this morning and said that he spoke to GB on the phone yesterday who said he was bored out of his mind because he'd never been out of work before.

My over-riding feeling towards GB is one of sadness because a good Club servant has lost his job but he knew that was the price on the ticket when he took the manager's job so hopefully he will bounce back elsewhere at some point wiser for his experience as our manager.

I'm sure plenty of people currently out of work would love to have the cash GB has no doubt accrued in his bank account over the past few years. He'll be back soon enough, whether as a manager, assistant or coach.

I hope he finds work and I'm sure he will but whilst he's twiddling his thumbs, maybe he could spare 5mins to rustle up a thank you press release to the fans for their unrivalled patience and support, maybe even touch on the club for giving him the opportunity to manage such a prestigious club.

I don't get what cash has to do with it, he's been in football for a while, he'll have plenty of cash, that won't be a motivating factor for him I'm sure.

Not being in work will have a big impact, and I for one hope he gets another job sooner rather than later.

I agree, that would show a bit of class.

The point is there are plenty of people to feel sad for, GB isn't really one of them. With his CV he'll be back somewhere in no time and he won't be struggling to pay his bills whilst searching.

It must be difficult sometimes when managers lose their jobs out of the blue after thinking about nothing else for years 24/7. No worse than anyone losing their job of course, especially considering the money but football is all consuming so it'll be odd. Like having the plate taken away from you halfway through a meal when your starving I suspect.

I have though thought quite a few times this season that GB looked like he didn't want to be there on the touchline anymore. Maybe he knew he was a dead man walking or maybe he even wanted out. Perhaps he's not as upset as we think.

I've not read this thread since lambert was appointed because it's largely pointless. But I think it's important to acknowledge the fact lambert mentioned the work bowyer did. And, as I suspect, some folk can't help but score points even during a happy period (as if that isn't enough), just let it go. Bowyer did a great job for us. What some demanded, in the conditions he inherited, was close to miraculous.

The same way people say Abbey and Parson (poles apart opinion wise) are to be respected as proper rovers fans, so should those who appreciated the work Bowyer did. Because he saved this club from league one football. There is no shame in that and nobody should have to justify having that opinion. Especially considering the new guy hasn't even managed a single match yet.

I find it strange there isnt a single quote from Bowyer.

Im aware of previous NDAs given by Venkys, but it seems more than that to me.

I thought that too Baz. Expected a statement from the LMA at least. I can only suppose he's too narked off to comment. I did think it was a poor show from GB to be honest. But I guess, judging from his fan digs, maybe he feels thoroughly unappreciated. I thought he'd take the chance to show some class and take an insignificant moral high ground.

There was nothing in GB'S pressers or demeanour before he left to indicate that he thought anything whatsoever was wrong so maybe he and his staff feel completely hard done by (especially in view of the fact we were under an embargo. Can't remember if he ever mentioned that. Lol.)

If that's the case then maybe he is better off keeping his counsel and not digging himself any deeper into a hole but a few brief words thanking the fans at the ground for their support wouldn't have gone amiss.

Any word at all from Bowyer. Any news on him and a new job. Strange to have hard nothong after he spent so many years here.

It's a bit poor not to release a few words to the fans that supported him through thick and thin. He only needs to dictate a few lines to his agent I imagine.

Colchester job came up yesterday. Wonder whether Bowyer will be itching to get back into management, even in League One/Two, or whether he will be having a break before deciding whether he wants to be a manager again or go back into coaching.

Plenty of options out there,

National, Ferris, Shearings, Shaws, Bullocks or maybe Just You

He's a proven coach, but I'm sure you might be getting mixed up with the meaning of the word. You can't ring Rigbys to hire a GB.

The King is dead, long live the King.

I am sure a lot of Rigby's coaches have a GB sticker on the back
