My memory maybe playing tricks on me but didnt Lamberts Norwich play decent football ...yes they had that lump Grant Holt upfront but wasnt their midfield full of footballers like Hoolahan Snodgrass Bradley Johnson etc ??

Just coming back to this senior advisor, whoever he/she may be, I don't think this automatically means something good or that the advisor is working in the best interests of Rovers. We, of all fans out there, should know that a senior advisor may well have advise on dumping the incumbent manager, regardless of who he is, to serve their own vested interest.

I'm not getting my hopes up of news today, and I don't think there should be any call for panic. Most clubs take their time in making the next appointment, even if it's been lined up beforehand. I assume there are things that can only be sorted out once the departing manager has actually departed. While I'm excited at the moment, let's see how this plays out. The show's not over 'til the fat lady signs.

Adding on to what I posted yesterday, my understanding is that Lambert will be appointed either today or tomorrow. Haven't heard anything on the Irvine situation but I'm guessing he will be the number two aswell (Sorry if I sound like a typical Journo!!).

I like the sound of Lambert, I have to say. From what Norwich fans I've spoke to say about him, he could bring some excitment and enthusiasm back to the club. I wouldn't dwell on his time at Villa too much, given their situation its a job thats hard for anyone, especially after Mcleish has been there.

I look forward to a promising future for us, COYB!!!

If we don't get out of the embargo anytime soon than surely the climate here (as proven over the past few years) is more likely to be similar to Villa's than to Norwich's? I'm optimistic about Lambert, but getting him and his staff in place is only the first piece of the puzzle.

I agree, but the word is we are not far off lifting the embargo. I've heard talk of Marshall being linked to Brighton for 4-5 million which could lift it? He's a great player and a good asset to us but, speaking honestly, if letting him go means 1). Keeping Rhodes and 2). Lifting the embargo. I feel that's something we have to consider.

The difference now is that we have a manager who I have more confidence in to make good signings with our budget. Granted Bowyer wasn't bad in the market but I believe that Lambert can spot players equally as good as Marshall. Rhodes on the other hand is irreplaceable at that level.

Wheelock thinks nothing imminent but he may not be up to date as it sounds like he's not at work

One of his LT articles stated that a manager could be announced "as early as this weekend", so I suspect that's the earliest we will hear anything official.

I think it is safe to say that the advisor who persuaded Mrs D to get rid of Bowyer was doing so in the best interest of the club, as it seems as yet that particular person (the ex? Indian FA guy) does not have any links to agents or vested interests and have heard that despite being offered a role ,that he did not wish to jump on the gravy train at Ewood as he has a lot of interests in India. Now whether or not he was the one who drew up the list of suitable candidates who knows

Looks like Lambert to Rovers is almost done according to @reluctantnicko https://t.co/JcsWbvqHW1

Lambert has been told he can sign the players he wants. Hopefully a right back, striker and pacey winger.

Would be really pleased if we get Lambert as manager. Great coup for the club and one I didnt think we could attract to the club.

Venkys are doing something right for once. So well done to them on this.

How are you able to say that Lambert can sign who he wants ?

Didn't Kamy allude to an Indian guy working in the background that reported to the owners? Think it's him that's behind the recent changes at Ewood. Glad to finally have someone that's not in it for themselves and actually does justice to his/her salary.

Personally think the announcement will be made today. There were blokes on Twitter that supposedly saw Lambert and Irvine at Brockhall/Ewood. For once, I'd like to believe these Twitter rumours.

Great coup this. Really think this could finally be a start towards promotion. I'm confident that given funds and full control, Lambert will take us up in a couple years. And, Irvine is one of the best coaches in the game. PL quality coach. To have him here is great. Knows the club as well so will help Lambert settle in.

It would mean a poor start if selling one of our key players is what it takes. I doubt Lambert would take the job unless he was guaranteed money to spend, maybe not the £50m war chest we have all been waiting for, but enough to make some decent additions to our first team. It's a big ask to expect promotion while being a selling club, question is whether this season is too late. If he can't turn the ship around with what we've got then the January window might come too late, even considering our trademark late push for promotion.

Do you not think it's worth it though? I think that the perfect outcome for getting out of the embargo is if we can do it and keep hold of Rhodes. Cairney was a very talented footballer but when 3 or 3.5 million is on the table, I don't think you can turn that kind of money down for him. I think the owners will give him money to spend, I think that they believe he's the man to put us in the running for promotion, and will give him funds to do so. I agree with you, I think he's only coming with a guarantee of funds.

I think replacing Marshall isn't as easy as you seem to think it is. And that cheaper replacements usually are cheaper for a reason.

If we sell some of our assets and get out of the embargo, we would still have to sign cheaper players on lower wages to stay out of it. While we're in it, we can sign free loanees and free transfers on a limited wage so there wouldn't be much difference other than we're without Marshall (plus Gestede and Cairney). A situation more or less unchanged in other words... I think Venky's are looking at a way to get out of the embargo without selling any players, and then spend fairly big to gain promotion. If we go up then we can say kean off to the Football League anyway.

Absolutely it isn't going to be easy. If I'm honest, I not 100% clear on the nuts and bolts of what happens when the embargo is lifted Re: signings, wages etc. I just have more confidence in Lambert during a transfer window and spending wisely. I'm not saying when the embargo is lifted we go out and get another Etuhu and Murphy and put them on huge contracts. If the owners can find a way of getting out of it without selling players then you have to take your hat off to them (can't believe I've said that). I think we'd all agree that's the perfect outcome.

We are still lurching one way then the other depending on whichever rumour/report is released.

No reputable source has confrmed anything.

We also seem to expect an experienced, successful manager to be able to work under the same muppet regime that forced the constructive dismissal of all our competent executives and coaches.

I am as desperate as anyone to believe there is a new, ruthlessly efficient presence behind the scenes but it's equally possible that this is the latest headless blunder of a failing administration.

Remember, anything is still possible, disappointment is as likely as inspiration.

Five years of hurt had taught us this.

Just a few things from the SSN ticker that might have already been mentioned.

  • Rovers not expected to announce anything today, as they are still in the interview process.
  • Lambert on five-man Fulham shortlist to become Head Coach.
  • Lambert has had initial talks with Rovers and QPR.
  • Peter Taylor is available

Is Sky Sports News in anyway related to SkyBet?

They might/might not be correct. But I can't believe that conflict of interest can be tolerated never mind discounted.
