Assuming it is Lambert and they do have a way out of the embargo - fingers crossed still - then I hope that this signals the start of Venkys finally becoming genuinely interested in running Rovers properly.

On the one hand I'd like to think that this would mean the introduction of a proper board but on the other hand, if Lambert has been given the latitude to run the club from top-to-bottom and answerable to the owners, then having experienced credible guys as both manager and assistant manager would certainly be the next best option.

With a blank list, I would initially have opted for Moyes (although not with P Neville) but given the stage that things seem to be at with Lambert - and the strength of his backroom team - I'd be gutted if it wasn't him now.

This club needs a lift, and depending on how he shapes the team, this could be it. For me, he is starting on the backfoot due to the start that we've had (which I hold Venkys just as responsible as Bowyer for) then making the play-offs would be a great achievement. Not making them this season but building for next season would be fine by me.

We need to get a bounce and ride that upward curve for the next 18 months.

Still, he's not here yet so back to crossing those fingers.

Don Mackay was a special bloke, all right. I felt so uncomfortable, when fans started chanting for his head and sad when he got sacked. The fact that Don and Bill Fox sat together at that sacking press conference said something about the good taste of the club at the time( a million light years from Shebby Singh's brown envelope waiting for Appleton!)

I never liked in when David Speedie felt the need to slag him off years later.

Some Rovers people we will always keep in our hearts ...and Don Mackay is one.

I thought Mackay was a very good manager for us but he has always struck me as being extremely bitter about his sacking, and that has lowered him a few notches in my estimation. He clearly wasn't the man to take us where Jack wanted to go and the fact Newell wouldn't join us when he was manager, but would when King Kenny was appointed, said it all.

As for Lambert not counting any chickens (no pun intended) but a good solid appointment if it comes off.

Like Stuart, Lambert wouldn't have been my first choice but I'm genuinely excited about the prospect of him coming as it will be the first time under Venky's ownership that we've appointed an experienced manager with a track record. Also even more significantly it would seem to confirm the owners are in it for the long haul and won't just disappear overnight or when the parachute payments dry up as the doom mongers and nay sayers have been predicting for years.

Especially, when Kenny came, I could understand why Don was dismissed, but I just felt sad for him. The play off failures were agonising and I always felt that it was clubs with more resources and bigger squads that counted in the end.

I do have an elephant's memory for anyone, who says one bad word about Rovers (e.g. Carl Fogarty, when he was still a Utd fan!I) However, I never heard Don say anything bitter about Rovers. Meanwhile, I thought Kenny was always very gracious about Don Mackay..

Fingers crossed they're appointing Lambert to make Rovers a better prospect for a new owner, with a good manager already in place (and embargo lifted, if they are able to do it).

They'd also have to write off the majority of our debts, but I can dream...

Let's hope it's not a case of Lambert comes in. Club promises to get out of FFP. Club fails. Lambert resigns.

Sheesh, doomsday scenarios already? The guy hasn't even been appointed yet.

Can we have a sliver of optimism for a change? I know we've been burnt by Venky's one too many times but for the moment let's at least dare to dream, eh?

I'd hope we find a way out of it soon enough. Whilst our balance sheet ain't looking so pretty, surely the powers that be can recognise we have been moving in the right direction through cuts and player sales. The inconsistency in their application of the FFP rules is what gripes me.

10th December 2010 - Big Sam is sacked by Venkys who wanted to see "better football".

At the same time a progressive manager is on-course to take Norwich to a second successive promotion in 2010/11 back to the Premiership playing some stylish football on a small budget.

How things could have been different if Venkys had LISTENED to people telling them to appoint a proper manager at the time. Instead we ended up with K***.

I'm still of a mind to believe it when I see it regarding Lambert's appointment. What's taking so long if the man wants the job..?

Just because it hasn't been announced doesnt mean it hasn't been done. I fully expect it to be announced on Monday. Good times set to return to Rovers

You really are an obnoxious individual

The more you post the more you prove it

thanks, hugsNkissesx

It seems I've made myself a punchbag for the bitter bowyerettes, shame they're so ruddy humourless about it all, I'm just happy because it looks like there's real hope ahead after 5 years of madness&mediocrity

Nixon is responding as if Lambert is already our manager. Responded to a Derby fan's question about Olsson by saying it's up to Lambert.

Has also said that Shaw is "not a priority" for Venky's.

Which means "I said Shaw was also leaving but I probably got it wrong."

I don't claim to be the best in the know on the board. However I am a match reporter and online Journo and have gained some contacts around the game this season. I can say with confidence that Lambert will be in charge on Monday (source: John Filan)

Say more things like this.
