No it's not. It's about 90 miles transpennine. Not an easy drive if you come over the m62 or the A59 over Blubber houses. I know, as I used to do it regularly when my parents were alive

However, they will come if they can get here. I know my family are.

Winning breeds confidence, both on and off the field. You got to give it time, get the team playing well, and the motivation factor will return. The fans over the last 5 year's have lost the motivaton, and that's not a negative thing, it's just how it normally goes when things don't go well.

Once the feel good factor sets in properly, the results are there, then people will slowly return to Ewood.

No way was there 13000 there. I sit quite close to the back in the Blackburn End and that is one of the most sparse I have seen those rows for a league game.

Plus it wasn't televised in the UK

It was if you were in a pub ;)

Club counting all season ticket holders....13,000?....hmmmm.

This blaming of the weather can't last forever.

The club must be at very least hoping they can match last season's Boxing day attendance v Boro now.

Maybe a few will have spent out on half season tickets which I think don't start yet?!

Comparable attendances under Lambert should be higher given the early results.

You would be surprised at how many simply cannot make a game that isn't 3pm on a Saturday. Just in my group there are 8 who had no chance of making it tonight. Same on Monday.

I couldn't get there last night, works do and I would think that would apply to a few. We were always going to be up against it crowd wise at the min even with the new manager and results as peoples money is committed to other things at this time of year. Throw in two games in four days on daft nights and it was never ever going to be a big upturn. Even if we'd topped the league all season these couple of games would see lower turnouts.

Carry on like we are though and I'd expect to see 13k home fans on regularly after Christmas and continued form will steadily increase that.

There is no specific "mentality" that makes our fans different than anyone else's.

Its all about circumstances---family, finances, health, employment and ,above all, how people relate to the Club.

That is THE area where we can claim to be truly unique. No-one else has had the downfall we have had in just 5 years.

Many former die-hard fans are and remain so hurt and angry that it will take much more than has happened recently to lure them back.

Indeed, many will never come back, such has been the devastation wrought by Venkys, Ke*n, Anderson.

Football attendance is not compulsory by the way and fans will return as and when they choose.

You say that the Club really can't do anymore. That isn't remotely true is it?

They could have top-class executives in place from whom more improvements would result. They could do an overhaul of the scouting system. They could appoint staff who specialise in fitness and injury prevention. They could have a functioning Board of Directors which includes local identities who love the Club and in whom the fans would have confidence. They could open up a dialogue with representatives of the fans and give a Trust member a seat on the Board. All these things are possible and desirable if the Club is truly to overcome the disaster which has overtaken us. I'm sure we could come up with many more ideas if we ever had any incentive and saw any point in it.

In summary. The owners will have to do MUCH more to build strongly on their recent good performance to come even close to healing the hurt of the last few years.

But you carry on blaming the fans for low attendances and continue to be surprised when they don't come back.

Firstly, I've also mentioned how the club could do more to bring others back- I think the post is in the tea party thread.

Secondly, I'm saying that there is a bigger problem with this generations mentality towards football support that will impact the smaller clubs. I'm not questioning that clubs have individual effects on the support, I'm saying that kids now are more likely to support City or whoever the players they've loved on FIFA play for.

I see it first hand at work, even many who attend with parents are "United" fans but go Ewood. The tribalism element discussed made a good point about how it's changing, that's a result of the way football is presented constantly on TV.

In terms if Rovers, I'm not blaming fans for leaving for personal reasons, financial, situational etc- I'm just a little annoyed that we get 20K+ gates for big games and take 5/6k away sometimes. It's not compulsory to be a supporter but if those who pick and choose despite "voting with their feet" for what happened. (which has also happened at other clubs despite you saying "no one else has suffered" like we have or words to that effect)

Couldn't argue with anyone who's fallen out of love with it because it's been hard for me at times despite having a season ticket for 20+ years. What can't be argued with either; we'd be sooner back with a full stadium rallying in voice and giving the coffers a boost.

Good point and one I've often banged on about/worried about. And it's not just a problem for us, it's a problem for all teams outside of the established premiership teams (and possibly some of them). I genuinely am not sure how league 1 and 2 teams will be in existence in 30 years time with this current trend.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got my ticket in the JWU for the Boro game and am bringing two extras. Asked for three together somewhere around Row 4 Seat 100 (where I used to sit when I has a season ticket) but they could only put me on Row 15. Hopefully this will reflect in what could be a bumper (by current standards) attendance.

Headline midweek in the LT proclaiming Jason Lowe set to return, now that isn't going to put more bums on seats ?

Seeing Brown and Williamson on the subs bench is even less attractive for me......but I will still be there!
