[Archived] Official: Paul Lambert Appointed Blackburn Rovers Manager

It's been mentioned before but quite a few in this league are starting to offer much cheaper ST's and the next thing will be the drive for twenty's plenty in the Champ after the news of £30 ticket cap in the Prem for away fans.

If they do back Lambert properly in summer then because of all the damage in the last 5 yrs I'd do an effort similar to Bradford with ST's. Make it clear it's a one off but if we hit say 15k+ ST's they'll consider carrying it on. It's going to take something drastic to re-engage a lot of fans and promotion won't happen overnight so waiting for that just lets lapsed fans slip away further.

Some pretty poor attendances in the Championship last night :

Forest v PNE 16747

Cardiff v Leeds 15273

QPR v Derby 14049

Wolves v Brist C 17459

Hudds v Reading 10167

And of course those are the official figures, I'm sure plenty of ST's were absent at those grounds too.

Spot on. Rovers need to offer a season ticket deal to match that of Huddersfield next year, namely £179 in all areas. Bradford have very cheap season tickets and look at their attendances. If Rovers merely freeze prices, it will look a rubbish deal compared to these clubs and there will be a poor uptake.

I don't think the current season ticket prices are that cheap. It's all relative; wasn't blackburn recently assessed as one of the most deprived towns in the country?

We're not going down. We're not pushing for the top 6. It's a cold night in March and we have just been beat off Burnley.

The opposition was uninspiring (although bizarrely doing well enough to be in contention for promotion) and the novelty of a new manager has wore off.

Last night was a friendly dressed up as a league game and it is unsurprising the attendance was so low.

Winning games WILL bring the crowds back but only when it is striving to achieve something. The push for 10th won't put bums on seats.

This season is gone. We may get a couple of good Saturday crowds and hopefully a bumper crowd to see us do the double over Nob End. If we start next season with a similar squad and in similar form then let's see what happens. I think we would see people then start to return.

No, asking a question of you that you won't answer when, once again, your posts express the opposite of what you have written previously. You are continually asking questions of others, it seems courteous to me that you respond as you expect others to do.

Well actually I answered it in the past.

But it seems to me that you want to talk about things that happened under a previous manager. We have moved on since then surely?

Surely we should be talking about Lambert and the good job he has done since coming in?

As you would know, I have been talking about that from the off! I also talked for many months about how I thought it could be if Bowyer left, and I didn't leave it till 2 days before he was sacked.

You do a great smoke-screen job though. I'm starting to think you are not as daft as you seem!

Yes you did talk about it how you thought it could be if he did leave. no argument from me on that.

One of my biggest worries is who was advising the owners at the current time and did they have their agenda. Also the quality of the manager to replace him aswell.

But My worries need not be worries cos This advisor 'Pasha' seems to have good knowledge about the game and went and got a proven manager in Lambert. something I ddint think would happen tbh but lucky for us it did. But Pasha doesn't appear to have his own agenda and is looking to do his best for Rovers and getting us promote to the PL as soon as possible. Plus the owners trust Pasha and another thing I like is he isn't doing interviews or seeking public attention either

Call it blind faith but I've got a feeling Balaji is going to throw the kitchen sink at it and Lambert will make us a seriously formidable force.

And I'm usually the most negative person going. Bring back Rudy, Balaji.

I may be in the minority, but I don't want Rudy back. He wanted to leave after 1 great season and got his wish.

Our current style of play revolves around our strikers working hard and harrying the opposition defenders. Rudy will win flick ons, but he isn't going to bust a gut for you, and his hold up play wasn't superb. Plus, having Rudy up there just ends up with our defence playing the 'out ball' and hoofing it at Rudy's head, normally amounting to very little.

You could make a case that we've done okay with Brown playing, but I feel our best starting 2 is Graham/Watt, and am concerned that Rudy would lead to a change in our style of play, either deliberate or subconscious (even GB once alluded to our players subconsciously playing an out ball to Rudy).

I'd welcome him back, but just feel he's going to want big wages and think his ego is too big to come back to little old Rovers. We should move on!

As Rovers fans we've had a tough time over the past few years. People having a go over K**n, mocking our protests etc.... However this messageboard proves us fans aren't that stupid after all.

We could see the issues. We didn't have a manager. We had a team less than the sum of its parts. We had players half fit and lacking drive. Lack of experience in the backroom staff.

These issues have been sorted and hey ho we now have a team we can all get behind. Who'd have thought.... well us actually.

Well done Paul Lambert and long may our recovery continue.

OK Chaddy, fair enough.

Don't think there's any problem at a big club like Rovers if the owner/staff (or advisors in Pasha's case) want to do interviews. Just as long as they don't come out with nonsense which would probably be an extreme difficulty for Venkys. I've been told Pasha does not want publicity (but he should get praise) and is the type who is just given a job and does it. In 2 minds over whether Venkys should say anything or not but "hopefully" they let their money do the talking either way.

Rudy is on the lazy side so I can't see him fitting into Lamberts philosophy at all plus there is a touch of prima donna about him on the pitch. He does however scare this division to death so it would be an interesting one but I like the way things are shaping up now so it would be a no from me.

I think Rudy is over rated by Rovers fans. If it is not on his head he is very ordinary. It's no secret that I prefer players with skill like Cairney and Rochina to bulldozers like Rudy and the useless Chris Brown.

I can't think of any players in recent history who have returned after a big-money move and done well. Bentley, Santa Cruz... neither of them reached their former heights, to put it lightly, when they came back to Rovers.

Why would Villa sell Gestede when he's a proven success in this division? They're surely going to want to use him next season.

Depends what style of football they want to play. He's useless if you want to play football on the ground.

He's a good plan B for lower Premier League clubs. You'd never want him starting, but in games where you are behind, bring him on for the last 10-15 minutes when you start pumping balls into the box and he'll probably be worth a few extra points a season.

Stoke still use Crouch in this role to diminishing effect, might be a good fit there.

It says a lot that I completely forgot Santa Cruz even came back!

There's a good new thread in the making! Of all the players we have sold in the last 3 years, who would you want back?

They have to be still playing of course!

Alan Judge is the obvious choice. Hell, I'd even take Alex Marrow as his buddy again if it meant Judge coming back.

I'm not sure Villa have a style of play beyond useless, but it would be mad for them to sell a bloke who they bought off the back of scoring goals in the league they've just been relegated to.

And even if they did, unless they sell him at a significant loss we probably couldn't afford him anyway. Even if they drop his price to £2-3M, I'd assume he's on £30-35k p/w, which I doubt we could match. Can't imagine him returning here and taking a wage decrease, either.

It's possible a Prem club could take him, but even "plan B" strikers in that league need more than Rudy has technically. Crouch, to use your example, is far superior to Rudy with the ball at his feet.
