There's a good new thread in the making! Of all the players we have sold in the last 3 years, who would you want back?

They have to be still playing of course!

Cairney and Rochina (but not both on the field at once)

Won't make a new thread, but here you go! I left out players who just had loan deals end:

GK: Robinson, Kean

DF: Marcus Olsson, O'Connell, Martin Olsson, Dann, Givet, R Hanley

MF: Cairney, Morris, Dunn, Marrow, Judge, Etuhu, Formica, Pedersen

ST: Rhodes, Gestede, Koita, King, Varney, Best, Goodwillie, Rochina, Slew

I'll restrict myself to three, and say Martin Olsson, Alan Judge and Josh King. Three problem positions solved.

Scott Dann has done pretty well.

I wonder how many will say they want Rhodes back?

Depending on the cost I would welcome back Dann, Martin Olsson, Judge, Cairney, Rhodes and Gestede. I wouldn't pay £9 million to have Rhodes back or £6 million for Gestede, but if they were available for a more sensible price then they would be quality additions.

Didn't know where to put it but Tony Watt has been called up for Scotland for their game against Czech Republic, Grant Hanley in the squad for the game against Denmark.

No Jordan Rhodes in either squad.

If I was to pick 3 from that list I'd take back Scott Dann, Jordan Rhodes and Ruben Rochina.

If I had to pick just 1 it would be Rochina, he had all the potential in the world, great talent.

Yea Strachan has named two 19 man squads with only about 4 players in both, and including 4 uncapped players, but still hasn't found a place for Rhodes.

The version of Scott Dann we had was largely useless until the second half of his last season here when he was no doubt aware that there was serious interest. Ok he was only finally 100% fit by then for the first time in his Rovers career but we didn't get much benefit. It's almost as if he was only placed here whilst he rehabilitated himself after Brum had to urgently get him off the pay roll.

Fine defender he now is I wouldn't want him back under any circumstances, too much of a stench around that one.

Would've been interesting to see Rochina in this diamond formation, either wide-left or in 'the hole'.

Yes Watt is trending on twitter at the moment in the UK. Most people aren't exactly thrilled by his selection ahead of Rhodes, McCormack, etc.

Congratulations to the lad. Strachan will no doubt have talked with Lambert prior to selection and they must both think he is good enough.

Yeah well done Watt. Extremely interesting that he's got in ahead of Rhodes. I was a big Rhodes supporter during his time here but kinda vindicates his critics somewhat. Brilliant to see how well Lambert's signings have bedded in and are starting to change the mentality of the dressing room. I agree with the previous posts about Bennett's performance against Burnley, he was absolutely superb.

Nixon said Strachan isn't a fan of Rhodes perhaps for the same reasons as Lambert. Its only for exhibitions anyway so not sure what Scotland fans are getting so upset about though goal comparisons are main reason for their displeasure. I think he's good enough as well certainly in terms of potential.

If money was no object and I could just take players?

Olsson 1, O'Connell, Dann, Cairney, Judge, Rhodes, Gestede, King.

And a lot of Premier League managers.

In the January window alone, Bournemouth spent £7m on Grabban and £10m on Afobe, Everton £13m on Niasse, Norwich £8.5m on Naismith, Southampton £4m on Austin, Swansea £8m on Paloschi.

Any of those could have signed Rhodes if they wanted.

Aargh! Beware the dreaded international injury curse!

Rhodes couldn't make the Scotland XI when he was playing regularly and banging in the goals for us. It's no wonder he's been dropped.

+ Scott Dann! Hard to believe that Dann attracted the criticism he did when he was here. Now Palace are resigned to losing him while he "moves up".

I'd also include Bunn but I assume he's outside the 3 year limit?

Posted

I liked Scott Dann, always thought he was a good player. It's no surprise to me he's been a big success at Palace.

Posted

I think Dann always had it in him but he was absolute disinterested pants throughout the majority of his time here that's why people knock him. A good manager and staff would probably have got him going a bit sooner and we'd have been looking at a nice big fee.

A bit too much re writing history about his time here I think. I'd love to trawl back and see some posts from when he was here, discounting the last few months before he left. :o

And we've pretty much heard nowt from them since. They could probably release that statement again at the of the season. No point wasting ink!

They could prostrate themselves and beg forgiveness in all four corners of Ewood and it wouldn't be enough.

If they continue to make rational, well-advised decisions like appointing Lambert, I'm happy to let their actions speak for themselves.
