Agreed. However, I just thought the stats were interesting, especially when I occasionally hear the misinformed 'he's doing no better than Bowyer' argument.

Well he wasn't for a while now was he. Doing much better now though. Well enough for dome of his critics here to have disa ppeared.

That's probably why anyone sensible was telling those critics to give him time..... :rover:

When we signed Dann he had just been relegated and they way he played for us in the prem you could see why a back line of Dann and Roger Johnson had lead to relegation. He was poor and made some really basic errors in the prem, he did find his feet in the championship and looked a good player for us. I have to say I am surprised he has done so well at Palace but then has he actually done that well or has he become part of the media campaign to tout Palace and Pardew as the next big thing despite having not won for about 12 games!

You can just see Pardew being primed for next England manager by the southern media

The major problem with Dann whilst he was here was that every time a cross came in, his feet grew roots which prevented him for jumping to head clear. More or less every single time this happened. Bizarre how that hadn't happened at Palace (as often).

He's like a bloody salmon at Palace. Think he's scored the most goals by a CB in the league.

I think sensible posters may have been alarmed considering the results for around 6 weeks. I don't recall anybody asking for the bullet - I'm pretty sure anyone critical of the results or decisions (such as transfer business, Bennett hardly hit the ground running and I'm not suprised some didn't think selling JR was a wise move) was fully prepared to give PL time!

What did you say about the "need to be proven right"? :-)

Since Christmas the real Scott Dann has shown up though, he's been awful for the past 2 months.

In my opinion the performances of centre halves are dictated more by who their manager is and what system he plays than the player's ability. There's no better example of this than Rovers in 2004/05 under Hughes when a defence of Neill, Todd, Johansson and Matteo conceded 35 goals in 34 league games. The same defence minus Johansson and Matteo (arguably the 2 weakest players of the 4) conceded 67 in the previous 42 league games under Souness.

Dann's had a bad couple of months (just as any player can), but in his career in general he's been very good under Coleman, Bruce and Pardew, and poor under Kean/Appleton/Berg/Bowyer. That indicates to me he's a good player.

You have a short memory, Jizzle:

Personally for me he has another game. If you can't beat a poor charlton then it should be goodbye.

What's the difference between Appleton and PL? Both went/are on a non winning running of 8/9 games? Both feature Cup success in between, both play/ed turgid football, both look like taking the club down?

Serious question but Gaz or PL?

Maybe a vote on this topic?

To be honest if you trawled this topic you'd find quite a few posters who were getting somewhat hysterical in their criticism of Lambert due to what, in the context of a season, was a fairly short bad run. I remember one guy having an apoplectic rant that included calling Lambert a swear word. And all this on the back of a good run which had given us enough breathing space to mean that there was no need to start panicking such was our points buffer above the relegation places.

Its not about needing to be proven right, its about wanting the people who were proven glaringly wrong to learn from it so the poisonous negativity doesn't come flooding back the next time we have a bad run. And also so that future players and managers are given time before getting jumped on. Football's always been the same, some newcomers hit the ground running and just as many who end up being successes have iffy starts (Savage, Reid, Emerton to name but a few from our past). But whilst that's never changed, the frankly immature behaviour of some fans in having a verbal tantrum out as soon as something doesn't immediately click seems to have. Wonder if this has something to do with it? :tu:

Not really true.

He got injured at the start of January in 2011 and didn't play again in the season they got relegated. They were outside the relegation zone when he got injured and many Birmingham fans said that his injury was the reason they got relegated.

Dann is a good defender when his team play defensive counter attacking style.

Still not forgot that time when he push Eastwood down to the ground after he made a mistake against birmingham city

Won't argue with you there. Nobody can be blamed for voicing concerns about our barren run, but you would've thought that after FINALLY upgrading to a proper manager with a proven track record, we might, just might, be willing to cut him some slack while he's still working with a team cobbled together by the last guy.
