[Archived] Official: Paul Lambert Appointed Blackburn Rovers Manager

Lambert is a really strong character who is honest and forthright. I think the Indians have pretty much dealt with yes men since Allardyce and Williams. Anybody who stood up to them (Paul Hunt) has been quickly removed. They have to understand this is the last of last chance saloons for them and if Lambert walks our downward spiral will be speedy.

If they have they learnt anything at all from their disastrous tenure they will back him.

Completely agree.

I was delighted when they hired Lambert as it signalled a new era: either a change of approach from Venkys or the prelude to a takeover.

I was less thrilled when they replaced Shaw with a job share by two existing guys, one of whom isn't shining in his current role and who has recently been very ill.

What they do next is vital. Personally I'd prefer they sell to a billionaire who will bring in a proven administrator but will settle for them muddling through without one but backing Lambert to the hilt. Lambert certainly seems to have overall control at the moment and is the only person at the club that we hear from (no bad thing). We now have the one thing we have needed since they sacked Allardyce, an experienced, proven quality, ambitious manager - what a shame they sold everything else not nailed down before doing so (whilst still throwing away millions!). Imagine what JW/TF could have done if they had been trusted to use that money wisely.

But whatever the history, the current situation isn't really sustainable for too long.

One thing I do get from those comments is a shot from PL.. I reckon he was promised money, but is worried it won't happen. I reckon if Venkys don't live up to their promises we may see him leave.

Theres no call on anybody yet until we know whats going to happen.

You cant make a decision on anything until we know exactly where were going as a club.

Theres only two scenarios. You either get automatic promotion or you get in the play-offs. End of. Theres nothing else. What do you want to do? Sit in mid-table and do this every year? I certainly dont want to do that.

I read this as: Venkys board meeting scheduling strikes again.

They don't seem to do ad hoc meetings.

I think there are far too many articles, interviews, "news stories" etc these days. I find it easy to ignore most as the same ridden out cliches- especially after Super Steves book of *****

After seeing a few interesting comments, I thought I'd listen. That interview makes me yearn for the day PL is sat in front of our delightful owners.

Loved it, whilst I had and still have respect for what GB achieved(which is not open for discussion in this thread), PL clearly exudes what his reputation brings, no nonsense talking, experienced views given with clarity.

One thing is for sure, this chap certainly knows his onions. He doesn't mince his words either - I think he has the recipe for us to taste the promotion pie...

If it is the intention of the Rao's to row row our boat, gently up the league- they'll need to stump up some cash. Either the Rhodes cash in full or more. That would mean following a correct decision with another. If anything, the Desai dynasty have been consistent.....ly terrible... Maybe it is time for them to do things consistently right?

15m could be about right, if Boro can get promoted considering Rhodes wages. That saved us 3m a season + the 9m and add ons...

Invested correctly... Blend experience with potential.... If it was my money, I'd have faith in the Lambo.

Actually, reading that LT article again, its scandalous that a manager of Lamberts experience is in the dark as to next seasons 'Plans' this late in the season.

Its par for the course that these Indian f*ckwits aren't even communicating on a basic level with the manager of the team.

Lambert shouldn't have to be making appeals through the press, to get his message to these idiots. And the fact that they will be attending Brentford away and not Ewood tells its own story.

Its more of the same I'm afraid. What has happened to Venkys Man on the ground at Ewood?

Not looking good for summer I would say.

Good interview from PL, no hiding places, wants to drag the club into the premier league, it's really up to the ambitions of the owners and the board of directors to give him the backing.

Time he gets to hear what his summer budget is likely to be, so he can make plans.

Doubt Lambert will come back with a definitive figure. There's a lot to be considered. The starting point for Venkys is how much the club is likely to lose in the last/next twelve months. If those losses are around 20mill, then that doesn't leave much to play with. Venkys have to look at whether they'll cover those losses then hand over a few more mill as well. They have to think about FFP and they have to consider where the club will stand if we splash all that money - losses + transfer fees + wages - in one seasons attempts at getting promoted and it doesn't happen. It's easy for the fans to demand the owners hand over what could amount to maybe 30 mill of their own cash, but it might not happen - and even if it does, is it the right thing to do?

However, let's hope they can find some cash.

This is exactly why a 'real' chief executive is needed to get on with running the club on behalf of the owners.

It's the only way the club will ever progress under Venky's ownership.

It's definitely a delicate balancing act.

The interview on Radio Lancs was clearer than it appeared. Been told a rough figure when joining, but knows things can change.

It can be interpreted a number of ways. Indeed, intellectual scholar, and Rovers lover, Paul Weller, thought "Rovers will be looking for a new manager in the summer"

That would be pretty disasterous. Who would come here in those circumstances ?

He's already here, step forwards Mr Irvine.

I don't think Lambo will quit though even if the budget is small he'll be allowed to wheel and deal probably. If it's another negative one he'll walk though, along with thousands of fans....again !

Someone needs to explain to them how much money they'd be set to make if they got into the PL. Even one season up there would settle things.

If the Chicken Chokers manage to balls it up as usual and this management team leaves -.that will be me done. It's definitely their last chance. For my own sanity there's a limit to the amount of chaos I can take in my life. They must realise that there's no point in just bumbling along.

Let's hope he wasn't brought in just to move Jordan Rhodes out.

If Lambert steps down and Irvine takes then you really know that there is no hope of Rovers ever retuning to the Premier league.

That's similar to something I said when he came and I just hope it isn't just another window dressing exercise. It's probably not but I wouldn't trust these lot in any way shape or form. I still have a nagging fear we are being played and things could look a hell of a lot different in Aug to what they are now and not in a good way.

Contrary to how some on this board work I really do not want to proved right at all

Looking on the bright side the guy who came over to sort out the team management side of the club must have given them good advice. They took that advice. If he's still involved I would have thought he will know what the fans know regarding the investment that's needed.

I can't see much point in bringing in the best management team we could have got but not backing them up with some dosh.

Played? How Tomphil? Not having a pop just genuinely intrigued as to what your fear is. Lambert's stock won't exactly have risen much to date in the role.

He could be labouring under false promises as well but he could also have told them he'd get this squad in the play offs if they backed his loan signings. It's probably nothing but it's just suspicions I've had all along and when you look at the sales over the past 12 months then replacing the management is small beer, especially seeing as most of the last lot were on rolling contracts.

It may have been a last throw of the dice whilst there was still a few quid washing about and it's certainly cheaper than committing to player transfer fees and contracts.

Like I said probably just my suspicions getting the better of me but with PL increasingly sounding like he's plotting an escape route it's a bit worrying.

I was pointing it out to highlight that I disagreed with Weller's scaremongering, but now you got me pondering.

I'm hoping he's rather trying to push the owners to give him money and a free hand rather than planning an escape route. He has done little to enhance his CV up to now.

I'M RACKING MY BRAINS TO SEE /FIND ANY MENTION OF THE 20 MILLION POUND BUDGET MENTIONED ON HERE.

I think someone has made it up.

For sure it's made up abs. My gut feel is promises were made to bring Lambert in, Venky's being Venky's will come up short and Lambert will walk away. I had a dream.

If that happens Lambert won't be the only one that walks away. I'm not a cheerleader or his agent or his dad but I think it's pretty obvious he's our last hope of a return to normality.
