[Archived] Official: Paul Lambert Appointed Blackburn Rovers Manager

DE.

No mention in the Scottish press of Lambert being considered for the Celtic job, having had a quick look through.

Its Moyes, Keane, Rodgers, Michael O'Neill and Stubbs at the moment.

Moyes and Lennon will be ahead of Lambert in the queue. Both are free agents and ready to get back to work after recent failures. Both would be more sensible appointments than Lambert at this stage - Moyes has been successful for longer and Lennon has done it before at Celtic and needs to rebuild his reputation after Bolton.

Lambert would no doubt fancy a crack at Celtic no matter what the situation at Rovers. As a legend there he'll have had his eyes on managing them one day and if he gets a chance would probably go regardless of the situation at Rovers, though if he does he can probably forget about managing in the Premier League again any time soon. The last few Celtic managers of Deila, Lennon, Mowbray and Strachan couldn't get anywhere near the Premier League jobs after working there.

I really don't understand the plaudits that Moyes gets, he kept Everton is mid table pretty much the whole of his tenure and he actually spent a lot of money. His son works for the scouse agent on here that everyone seems a bit weirdly obsessed with too.

He spent quite a bit of money on strikers doing that as well.

I'm not entirely sure why general consensus here is that Lambert will be their first choice. I expect he'll be well down the list - for a start, they could get Moyes or Lennon without paying compo, and the latter has already been a success for them once. Couple that with Lambert's poor record since he left Norwich (including his brief stint with us so far) and I'm not convinced he's an attractive of a prospect as some think.

Isn't it to mostly to do with a rumour started on here? I'm sure that's why. Although it's not like folk on this messageboard to run with a half-truth and over-react accordingly, obviously :rover:

It's strange, because other than this mb I haven't seen Lambert so much as mentioned in passing as far as the Celtic job goes. Maybe I'm just reading the wrong articles...

I expect that you won't do tbh. Whilst the poster on here obviously mentioned it in good faith and I don't doubt the legitimacy of their source, the fact that Lambert isn't even amongst the early favourites with the bookies speaks volumes to me.

He's still very popular with the Celtic fans, and lets face it Lennon is second in the betting and couldn't hold a candle to Lambert record as a manager in my opinion and comes with baggage.

Lambert has been mentioned in the Scottish press and I must admit if I was Lambert I'd be saying very quietly how I'd be interested in the job, its a massive job, champions league alone makes it very attractive and I'm sure Paul will have an interest.

I still think there are enough decent out of work managers about to make paying compo for Lambert an unappealing prospect.

After all, it's not like you need to be a genius to manage Celtic. Deila's been rubbish and they're still going to win the league by a significant margin. I appreciate Rangers are back in the SPL next season but you'd still expect Celtic to win the league without much bother. Managing Celtic also does very little for a person's reputation - after a fair amount of success with Celtic, the best Lennon could get was Bolton.

I wouldn't blame Lambert for wanting to leave this circus, but I'm not sure working at Celtic would necessarily enhance his reputation to any significant degree outside of Scotland.

Hoping PL sees this as the wrong time to manage Celtic. Celtic is a big rebuilding job....

At least at Celtic he will be given the tools to rebuild, at Blackburn he doesn't even know the phone number to the person who's paying him.

All things told I think Lennon did okay at Bolton - at least his players looked motivated which is more than can be said about our shower last weekend.

From the BBC website, PL is far from being the only candidate, some big names in competition?

"Lennon is a free agent after leaving English Championship side Bolton Wanderers but is not the only potential candidate.

Roy Keane has been mentioned as a possible replacement, while two other former Celtic players - David Moyes and Malky Mackay - have not distanced themselves from the job in recent weeks."

Well he will fit right in if he's anti-protestant as well as racist.

I think you'll find that Jock Stein, Celtic's greatest ever manager, was a Protestant himself who once allegedly said "If I had the choice between a good Catholic player and a good Protestant player, I would always sign the Protestant, because I knew that Rangers wouldn't sign the Catholic"

I know who will be a million to one. He once painted their dressing rooms and also coached our kids!

Other than the fact he is an ex-player why would Celtic even consider Lambert? Failed at Villa, failing here.

Who has succeeded at Villa? It's far too soon to determine whether he's failing here yet. It would be incredibly harsh to say as such at such an early stage IMO.

Lambert is actually a protestant himself anyway. There's nothing anti-protestant about Celtic whatsover. Or racist for that matter.

Anyway, there would be others above Lambert in the queue, such as Moyes, but he is apparently unwilling unless he is promised fairly significant funds to spend. This could potentially deter Lambert as well. But having Rangers in the top flight will probably mean the Celtic board might have to splash the cash a bit to remain top dog.
