[Archived] Official: Paul Lambert Appointed Blackburn Rovers Manager

Whatever Lambert is doing is not working. It's unlikely he's going to be able to replace that much of the team in January, so he needs to get a grip on this now before we really are in trouble. Tactically Lambert has completely taken our best striker out of the game, and for reasons beyond my understanding shifted the bulk of attacking duties to the likes of Koita and Guthrie. This long ball tactic he's using has destroyed us as an attacking force. It has to stop.

Completely agree. When your target man goes off injured, you have to change style and we did the same - even punting it a Lawrence in the end. If that had been GB, the scorn would be pouring out on here right now.

One thing that's really troubling me after that is the sheer lack of quality we have. Conway struggled to find the right cross, playing Marshall on the left makes the full backs job easy because if you show him outside he'll likely lack the quality touch.

Rhodes seems about 4 divisions above his level at the moment also, which is probably why we aren't even looking like winning games.

With the increase in expectations - Lambert has a tough job to turn a team assembled through freebies and cheap signings into a force.

As bad as it was today, (and it was terrible), it's too early to make that call.

This is not Lambert's team and he must be allowed to build a side.

Then we can judge,

This is Lambert's team. He takes responsibility for player selection, the team formation, coaching and tactics. The buck stops with him.

Absolutely, but in the meantime he has to do better with the team he has. I can understand his reluctance to play any form of expansive football - these players can barely control a ball at the moment, let alone play properly - but the current tactic is killing our ability to threaten the opposition. A solid defence is worth nothing if we can't score, as we've witnessed in the last few matches. Had Rotherham not scored for us we'd be looking at a return of 2 points from 12, essentially negating any impact the first few decent results had.

Things must get better, both during and after January. Continue on like this and we are in big trouble.

I was surprised everyone ignored the two penalties, two own goals and two sendings off we benefitted from in Lamberts first few games - good fortune by any standard.

Personally I think the mentality of the players hadn't changed. They sound like they are enjoying the new training regime but there have been no consequences for poor performance, no career-ending or limiting banishments to send a message. Personally I'd send Marshall to train with the kids and leave him there to rot, a visible reminder day in day out that the new manager means business.

I think that situation will changer with the transfer window, with the introduction of some viable options to the squad.

Squeaky bum time coming up for the whole 1st team I would say

Then we can judge,

He's supposed to be a good football manager. That means he should be able to take the group of players he has inherited, and beat the worst team in the league with them.

At the moment Lambert is making Bowyer look very good.

It has to acknowledged that a large proportion of the squad PL has inherited comprise rejects and castoffs many of whom were picked up from the unemployed register this summer - Akpan, Guthrie, Delfounso, Koita. However that does not excuse the longball, fightball and aimless punting that has been a glaring and very unwelcome change right from the start of Lambert's regime. Constructive passing moves have been almost entirely eliminated. That is the most worrying aspect in the long term. Also PL was fortunate that at Norwich (the only club at which he has excelled) he inherited attacking players of the quality of Hoolhan and Holt. He has it all to do both in the transfer market.

You have to assume there are plenty of players who would rather be elsewhere, as there have been plenty of performances that seem to be begging the new manager to get rid.

The only question is how many of these losers can we turf out and replace in January.

The received wisdom was always that we have a top 6 squad that was being mismanaged by Bowyer.

Well, Lambert's had time to make his mark and the team looks no better and possibly even more sterile than under Bowyer.

So as the only constant is the squad the conclusion must be that Lambert is no better a manager than Bowyer.

Made his mark , how in hell as he done that without bringing his own players in? You sound like a spoiled toon fan

His team ? Ok

Have you been on the pop ?

And the bowyerettes are loving this and using the Kleenex by box

After today I'd say 8 or 9

It's be a stronger message to do it before signing someone better. The best thing Hughes did IMO was banishing Mickey Gray after we got hammered at Chelsea about three games into his reign. Every day for what seemed like years his mates had to watch him trudge off into a career-ending limbo.

Ironic really. Your lack of posts when things were going well under Lambert and now you're sticking the knife in. I do believe you were quick to stick the boot in to anyone who did similar when Bowyer was in charge.

Poor stuff, and one would have to question if you're a Rovers or Bowyer fan.

The same Mickey Gray who was a great left back under Hughes' first 18months?

Harking back to Bowyer is silly. He clearly wasn't the man to take us forward and we steadily regressed under his management. Lambert equaled Bowyer's win tally this season in four matches.

GB is an irreverence now. He's gone and it doesn't matter how he compares with Lambert. What matters is what Lambert is doing with the current squad at his disposal and what he's planning to do to fix the glaring deficiencies that exist across the team. I hope Lambert has some serious backing in January, because serious changes need to be made to keep us up this season and prepare us for a summer of further strengthening and a big improvement next season.

Must be my age. The town was buzzing when we appointed Lambert! We lose one game and not reached the transfer window yet and the above is on the board. PL has probably been assessing the squad to see what he has like Souness did a few years ago. Give him chance.

Not got anything against Lambert, I just think Jokanovich would have been a better manager. Time will tell.

No point in judging until feb/mar sort of time, but I have to say Lamberts tactics worry me. Seems he wants us to play a game we are not really suited for.

We got it down better in the 2nd half and looked ok when running with it from midfield. We must now put over more crosses than anyone in the div but 75% of them are under/over hit. Once the odd good one gets over then unless it drops on Rhodes toe there is no one anywhere near them.

Koita puts the effort In but his positioning and runs are dire to say the least, not a clue how to get onto the end of things.

Brentford winning at Reading - the team we could barely muster a shot against. I honestly think we'll struggle to score at Newport at this rate.

Well this is the same team that got beat by Scunthorpe
