[Archived] Official: Paul Lambert Appointed Blackburn Rovers Manager

Bowyer seemingly. had many supporters spell bound. Strange. Very average manager indeed. A bit crap really the more I reflect.

GB had supporters "spellbound", including me, as he was a refreshing change from the drama, chaos and shenanigans epitomized by prior managers. But he had his time at the helm. It was time to make a change and PL is giving every indication that he'll be an improvement. I, for one, at least am willing to give him a decent length of time before calling for his head.

Very hard to develop any style of play when you change the team around every week and play them out of position.

The 5 games and 11 points WAS the new manager bounce. It just didn't last as long as we hoped.

I was talking about the performances and players prerforming better to imptess the new boss. Not happened at all.

VOTE HERE: http://www.skysports...te/championship

He's a Rovers player so we should ALL vote!!!!!

Good to see a Rover getting recognition early under Lambert's watch

Edit: also posted in the Bolton match thread as I didn't want anyone to miss it ^_^

For heavens sake don't tell JAL. He'll be straight on the case to find out if Duffy and the judging panel share the same agent. Then post his findings in a cryptic manner which nobody will be bothered about deciphering.

There are very selective memories in some.

It's ludicrous how Lambert is under fire for poor football/results. His win % exceeds that of Bowyer and this phase of pretty football with poor results that Gaz mustered at the start of the season was certainly a purple patch in our style of play. The football had been utter dog for yonks prior to this season. I'd argue it was poor throughout his tenure and it certainly wasn't as great this season as some make out!

Indeed there are some very selective memories mustard. I'll make no other comment other than to add some balance by reminding all that 3 wins from his first 7 matches by Paul Lambert exactly matches 3 wins from Steve Kean's first 7 matches.

I didn't quite say he was but I can see how that could well be inferred. Point taken.

It's a difficult one though, and I can only go off my own perception of his actions. He was clearly not happy and his body language spoke for him. Successful football sides are usually a tight knit group and negativity - even through mental health issues - could cause this to break down.

On the depression topic, we only really hear about the very high profile footballers who struggle after they've finished playing. The lack of adulation (for want of a better word) and I expect income play a big part. I can well imagine there being an epidemic in the future of football.

I've been told that Marshall is always hot - footing it down to Cheshire/South Manchester on the lash. I've no idea of it is true or even matters.

He has improved massively. His attacking headers are still awful and he switched off against Bolton for a split second but he is finding his feet and definitely gelling with Hanley.

Lambert not only has to get this squad fitter and playing better but also change their mentality. For too long this team has been happy to plod along with mid-table mediocrity being acceptable. The owners have said that now has to change and so does the manager, but it's not going to happen overnight.

True, the lack of urgency all over the pitch with the possible exception of Conway was very reminiscent of a performance under the previous manager. Only woke up after going behind and have the usual last 5 plus injury time right good go, sparked mainly by Lawrence. It's been the absolute blue print for the last few years.

It's becoming obvious it's so deeply ingrained in these lads that only changes to a good few of the players will alter it. Some replacements may not be much better ability wise but they may have a different mentality and freshen things up.

There are very selective memories at work here.

In the 6 games before Lambert took over we won only 1 in the Championship.

In the 6 games before Kean took over we had won 3 in the Premier League.

So what? Genuine question. Are you suggesting Lambert is another Canut? but with hair?

Just watching the QPR v Hull match and QPR are not playing particularly well (just equalised as I type) and Don Goodman in commentary talked about JFH inheriting a squad with no spark and how he will have to rebuild and not to judge him on somebody else's players. There is a huge similarity between them and us and an appreciation from a respected person within the game of the situation. We should all heed Goodmans wise words.

Hasselbaink and Lambert have been in position for the same amount of time. Lambert has won 3 from 7 games, Hasselbaink has won 0. Hasselbaink inherited a better squad than Lambert.

Not many QPR supporters getting on his back, and they were woeful tonight.

It's a topsy turvy division. Brighton go 21 unbeaten then no wins in 6 with 3 home defeats on the bounce.

I'm confident knowing the hard work the team has inevitably put in this last 6 weeks under new management will stand us in good stead going forward. Losing by the odd goal is no major drama whilst we evolve.

It could have been much worse for Lambert. We've had a few nice touches with own goals, sending offs, goal line clearances etc going our way in tight matches. Be nice if 'he scores when he wants' wanted to score again.

You're right. The real beauty of this league is there's so many games and 3 or 4 on the bounce and owt can happen.

Apologies if already mentioned, but I found Lamberts latest Rovers player interview very revealing.

He digs Koita out for not hitting the ground running and making an impression.

He mentions looking at targets and alludes to them currently playing at a higher level and those higher clubs seeing who they bring in 1st.

It also sounds like maybe he has been knocked back on the wages for some targets

Hopefully he takes him out of the first eleven then. Just don't replace him with Brown or Delfouneso, please.

Blueboy3333

You claim to have had a season ticket every season bar 3 in the late 70's, and you're spending most days on here slagging off Lambert, the best thing to have happened to the club under Venkys, no doubt about that.

I don't know 1 Rovers fan unhappy at the Lambert appointment in the real world, everyone sees this as a positive move whether you wanted Lambert in or not.

No point dressing it up, I quite simply don't believe you pal, you can't be a long standing fan thats seen the really bad times and have such a negative opinion on Lamberts appointment, something doesn't add up.

Just my opinion.

Plenty of Rovers fans have been critical about the recent performances, but this has been tempered by an acknowledgement that Lambert needs time to stamp his mark on the team, and is the one manager in five years who deserves some slack cutting.

Blueboy's scathing attacks on our new manager suggest an irrational hatred of some kind. I don't know if it's an Old Firm thing, or that he has ties to Bowyer, or what, but it definitely stinks.

A lot of it is blueboy just trying to get back at the people who criticised him over his stance on Bowyer, imo. He'll get it out of his system eventually.

No doubt we need to see a big improvement today either way, as the Bolton match was nowhere near acceptable regardless of the amount of time he's had or the quality of the players. If there's a repeat performance today I think it has to be assumed a fair few players have effectively downed tools and want to leave, which would leave Lambert with a bit of a problem if he can't bring in 3 or 4 good new players.

The thing is, even those happy with Lamberts appointment recognise that performances are poor. There are no illusions here. The difference is those that are patient and realistic and those are impatient and unrealistic. But that's football supporters you.

The personal attacks, so early, are a different thing.
