arbitro Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Markus Olsson is out of contract in the Summer and as yet no negotiations have taken place. It will be something high on Paul Lamberts list I guess. Interestingly he was one of the few players who improved during the Bowyer period I felt. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34843147

Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted November 17, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted November 17, 2015 That'll be his agent putting the feelers out after the Derby interest. He could easily have had a word with PL after training I would have thought, rather than running to the press...
donnermeat Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Getting him to sign a new contract should be a priority imo.
Ewooduknow Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Maybe Lambert won't fancy him? You never know.
tomphil Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Hopefully if anyone was to leave Lambert would replace them correctly. Loaning a centre half to play at full back or a midfielder who might just be able to fill in there. NOT !
RevidgeBlue Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I don't rate him so a priority for PL should be to ship him out to Derby for a big fee before they realise he's no good imo.
Bucksrover Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I worry about this sort of stuff less now we have a proper manager. Much prefer Ollson to Spurr though.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I prefer him to Spurr also. More mobile, pacey and younger. I think he can get better I don't think Spurr will. We need to keep him unless a really daft offer comes in. Looks like Derby think they can get him on the cheap. Hopefully we've stopped making silly decisions.
yeti-dog Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I prefer him to Spurr too. Not a big fan of the long throw either to be honest. It invariably slows the tempo down far too much and usually has no end result.
donnermeat Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 He has his faults, sure, but I like his direct running and work rate. His crossing has improved last couple of years too.
Backroom DE. Posted November 17, 2015 Backroom Posted November 17, 2015 I'd ideally prefer him to sign a new contract as his pace is useful and he's definitely improved since he was first signed. Perfect scenario - get Olsson on a new contract, ship out Spurr and bring in somebody decent to challenge Olsson for that LB position. If Olsson has no intention of signing a new contract, though, and we're out of the embargo by January, sell him for a reasonable price after identifying a suitable replacement and move on.
Ewooduknow Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I'm in the camp of liking the long throw, but admit its far less effective now gestede has gone.
Neal Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Olsson is twice the athlete Spur is... Olsson gets on the overlap and turns defence into attack quicker than Spurr. If we're going to be playing attacking/pressing under Lambert then he'll likely be one of the first on the team sheet. Don't rate Spurr at all.

arbitro Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 Reading that he seems happy enough at Ewood. No signs of itchy feet. And didn't Paul Lambert sign Martin Olsson for Norwich. I expect that there have been a few calls between the Olsson twins since Monday.
RoverNev Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Controversially, I think if a good offer is on the table, I think he should be let go. No doubt he's a good player but money talks in our current situation.

No doubt he's a good player but money talks in our current situation. I suppose it will be a question of how highly Lambert rates him. His value has increased recently but we will get nothing like his true worth if he is out of contract.

No doubt he's a good player but money talks in our current situation. Small change compared to Premier League money, and I highly doubt that the fee is enough to get us out of the embargo with his contract running out in the summer. Renew it, he's proven Championship quality so there's no risk in him becoming deadweight unless we overpay him.

Renew it, he's proven Championship quality so there's no risk in him becoming deadweight unless we overpay him. I think Lambert can bring in better. I don't think he's a bad player, it's just personally I would prefer a two full backs who are better defensively than going forward. I don't think Olsson is a great defender. I suppose it will be a question of how highly Lambert rates him. His value has increased recently but we will get nothing like his true worth if he is out of contract. I think Lambert will rate him, like we all do, for what he brings going forward with his pace and occasional delivery. I just don't think he is defensively that sound, but if we offer him a contract to get his true value then I am more than behind that.
