old darwen blue Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Pack it in about Christmas please, I am already sick to death of this commercial extravaganza because that is what its become nowadays. Im sure it wasnt like this when I was young. Lock this thread until a couple of days before! Bah humbug.
Backroom Mike E Posted December 8, 2015 Author Backroom Posted December 8, 2015 You've come too soon Mikey! Posted with no additional comment Oo-Er!
tomphil Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Not long ago all thoughts used to turn to Christmas from about mid Dec until New Year. Now it starts in friggin October en masse and lasts until the 25th then it's forgotten about suddenly in the scramble to start the summer holiday season, valentines day, Easter or whatever other commercial bulldust they can ram down our throats. What happened to the 12 days of Christmas ? People are sick to the back teeth of it before it even gets to the day that's what !!! Humbug indeed
gumboots Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 You can still do it properly yourself though. We've always started Christmas after my son's birthday on the 4th Dec. We used to have sweets in shoes on 5th Dec night for St Nicholas, then school Christmas fair was the Friday after that usually and broadly speaking we still stick to those dates. We never start before advent starts anyway. It's hard to fight over commercialism but you have to do it your way.
ABBEY Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 IT AINT CHRISTMAS YET...ITS STUPID HOW EARLY ITS STARTING THESE DAYS. MAY I NOW WISH YOU HAPPY EASTER
Backroom Mike E Posted December 8, 2015 Author Backroom Posted December 8, 2015 Well into Advent (the traditional Christian build-up to Christmas) is too early?
chor808 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 After living in North America a December start is a relief. They roll from one event to the next with almost no breaks. The lights are on in most homes around thanksgiving and the shops start in October. Madness. Anyway my tree is up.
ABBEY Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Well into Advent (the traditional Christian build-up to Christmas) is too early?Yes BUILD UP not Christmas ! The fa cup 3rd draw was yesterday doesn't mean we should be celebrating an fa cup trophy
roverandout Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Happy Halloween if we are celebrating things a month in advance or after the event
Amo Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 We're now a week into December, so I presume it's safe! How's that working out for you, Mikey?
Backroom Mike E Posted December 8, 2015 Author Backroom Posted December 8, 2015 Yes BUILD UP not Christmas ! The fa cup 3rd draw was yesterday doesn't mean we should be celebrating an fa cup trophy As much as I agree, the FA Cup final isn't less than 3 weeks away. Christmas is! I admit I'm a properly big BIG fan of Christmas, mind. Certainly never 'start' until Advent, as gumboots mentioned.
ABBEY Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Well happy Christmas everyone .. Won't be on tommorow so all the best . A more reasonable time than when this thread started in July
deryck guyler's spoon Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 The sprog has left home and it's 38 degrees here tomorrow. They're saying 'deck the halls', don't feel like Christmas at all.
oldjamfan1 Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Whoever and wherever you are, I hope you have a peaceful Christmas. Above all, I hope you get to spend it with your loved ones.
