Agreed, DE. He's certainly a shadow of the player from mid-season last year that's for sure. He had a free kick in a dangerous position and ballooned that too.

I too would look to get Lawrence on. While Koita has again been a nuisance, he and Rhodes are not working. Let's not forget that this is a real patched up Reading defence too. I reckon Lawrence running at them can get us back in this.

Apart from palming one tame effort in the first half their keeper may as well have been on his Christmas holidays.

Hoping for a better second half chief, imv dropping Lawrence was a harsh decision, especially considering how ineffective Rhodes and Koita are as a partnership.

Will Koita ever score? Just seen a replay of his chance. Couldn't finish his tea, that lad!

Come on Rovers, keep at it and gerrintoem!

In theory the decision to play Koita up front with Rhodes makes sense, but in practice there's no connection between them. Koita won a fair few flick ons when we played Forest but Rhodes was nowhere near any of them, and when Koita gets the chance to score he misses. There's no point having the two playing together if they don't click. It's very unlikely Rhodes will be dropped, so I'd put Lawrence on instead. At least he and Rhodes had some sort of connection and at times seemed to work well together. Rhodes hasn't really clicked with Gestede, Brown or Koita as target men, so it seems to be the wrong tactic to play if Rhodes is starting.

This seems to be the tactic Lambert wants to play though, so we'll just have to hope at some point it clicks. Unless Rhodes goes in January, leaving us to get in another striker who can play that way. Otherwise we'll be left with a front two of Brown and Koita, and maybe Lawrence if he signs an extension - but Lawrence isn't a natural goalscorer either, so we'd still need a proper striker.

You've mentioned it, the common denominator is Rhodes. He is tough to play alongside because he offers so little in terms of link and hold up play.

In the past he has been a ridiculously good finisher but I think it isn't helping that one of our previously most creative players (Marshall) is dire and we don't look balanced going forwards. After the Bowyer years, despite thirty odd signings, we have been left with very poor striking/fwd options. Only a fool or an ex-manager can blame that on a number of months under embargo. Nothing can be done until January but I honestly think the time has come to roll the dice, sell Rhodes and bring in five players. I also expect it to happen and we'd snap the hand off any buyer who would let us break above even on Rhodes. Middlesbrough and Hull are chasing promotion and will come sniffing again.

Anyone with eyes can see we need freshening and balancing up.

He has had a couple of great finishes early in th season - flag went up both times though. He does seem the type that will never score a goal for us.

I feel as if we should be giving Lawrence another go soon. He's no targetman, but that might encourage us to play on the deck a bit more, which may greatly benefit Rhodes.

He did fine alongside Lawrence. It just doesn't work with Rhodes and a target man, for whatever reason. If we fail to score in this match I think Lambert will have to seriously consider either dropping Rhodes or playing a different system.

The criticisms of Rhodes are well-documented but we can't lay the lack of chances squarely at his door. Sounds like the midfield isn't pulling its weight much, either.

I second that question as well.

Reading well on top in second half and had three attempts so far.

Worryingly that first half might have been our good one!

How did you manage to get a hot line straight to JC himself?

One shot on target so far, Reading have had four. Seven shots to six in Reading's favour overall. Possession evened out this half.

If we're nowhere near the playoffs come January then I'd sell Rhodes and Marsh and give it some of it to Lambert... Let him build the team he wants.
