[Archived] Bolton V Rovers - 28/12/15

We have a severe lack of quality in attacking positions. Not many of our players are comfortable on the ball.

This season is all about putting in the foundations for a proper push next season. A top management team have been put in place, now we need some quality on the field.

Desperately poor today but the future is brighter than it has been for a while. Let Bolton enjoy the moment, they've got some seriously tough times coming up.

If you even DARE to predict a win against Cardiff...

It's a home banker for Cardiff. Put your house on it !

A Rovers defeat a few months ago was the fault of the manager - so why is it not the manager's fault today ?

Bowyer had almost 3 seasons and 40 new players.

Sadly, Lambert has only had six weeks to work with what, IMV, is a stinking legacy from Bowyer.

Absolutely correct. This is Lambert's team, he set it up to play this way and he dictates tactics. Bowyer's teams caved in too easily but we've not seen anything like the performance of the Burnley match since Lambert took over.

Same players not doing their INDIVIDUAL jobs correctly again though regardless of overall tactics. Duffy goes to sleep at vital moments yet again. Marshall wasteful time and again when in great positions, continuous over hit crosses by Conway. Dalglish could be stood in the dugout and that would still happen.

Lambert has no one to replace these guys with.

Glad he's spoken the truth and gave an honest assessment. Refreshing to see despite our atrocious recent performance levels.

Love how the article ends with this:

It isn't too late to buy a Half Season Ticket for the second half of the 2015-16 campaign.

Oh I don't know maybe because the defeat a few months ago was a team built over nearly 3 years by the manager that was in charge, hence his fault.

Today was a manager who has inherited a squad and has has mere weeks in charge and has no players of his own in the squad, hence not his fault.

Its not as though GB had the luxury of selecting players he wanted either. He did a fine job under the circumstances and deserved the chance to bring in players while not under embargo. We have done a disservice to both men. GB for stripping him of the job before he truly got to prove his ability to build a team not 100% free transfers and limited squad size and PL for expecting him to be able to do more with players that were mostly free to anyone willing to take them on. The club needed stability and venkys fell into a bit of luck with GB, and now as soon as we navigate the embargo and settle the freefall, they go back to unsettling the direction and putting us back on the manager carousel.

It's good to see some honesty from a manager again, also you could see how @#/? off he was on the sidelines. I really do dread to think how GB would have dressed that game up. I actually thought we did ok effort wise in the second half but the usual problems remain.

First half was as bad as anything we've seen in recent years.

Just about to comment on the season ticket crap at the end! Glad someone got in before me.

Absolute shambles of a performance, on another note! I get the sense the players just turned up and expected to collect 3 points today. Henley, Akpan, Marshall and Conway weren't up to it for me.

Best of the bad bunch? Delfounso... He did well with rubbish being launched up to him.

There were only Steele, Hanley, Olsson and Dolphin came out of that game with any semblence of credit for me.

So glad PL was honest in his remarks, but I feel he should be more scathing. Then again, maybe he was apoplectic behind closed doors. I hope so anyway!

People harping on about THAT Burnley performance. You are aware that we still lost that game, right?

Exactly, also being swerved is the fact we only won 3 in god knows how many in these fabled better performances under Gaz. Infact just where would we be with the points from the wins under Lambert ?

We played way above our station v Burnley just as Bolton battled better today v us. Also many teams look good v Burnley with their style of play but not many beat them sadly.

We lost against a team likely to go into admin, that haven't won in 18 and have won only one other league game this season.

That's totally unacceptable. Tell you what, glad they're going down, so we don't have to go there and watch us lose. Oh, and pay £33 for the privilege!!! :-(

I thought Bowyer's team was good enough to go up?

It might have been in his first two seasons, with a bit of luck in terms of avoiding injuries. Not this season though. How can we be good enough to go up when we only have one player capable of scoring, and one player who can provide regular assists?

Too many players who run around the pitch and achieve very little. You can get by with one or two players like that, but right now we have too many who rarely contribute anything. Our bench is embarrassing. Major strengthening needed before we can even begin to look at promotion, and we won't be able to get it all done in January.

We have never been good enough to go up. It all basically comes back to our simple owners.

Correct Jim. Plenty of posters thought so, and now the line seems to have changed to "well they're Bowyer's players". Not totally untrue, but folk should learn (and know by now) that things don't magically transform overnight when a new boss arrives. Some posters should be old enough to know (shouldn't they MM etc).

The shocking effort at home to Blackpool last season with a better team than today still sticks in the mind.

Back to today though and when do we ever have a decent Christmas period ? I remember some stuffings at home when Souey was boss, Hughes as well I think. We even struggled a bit the season we won the Prem in the festive period.

Rovers and Christmas don't mix.
