My memory is that before we had Friedel we had Kelly in the first team (and Fettis wasn't it?) and we were desperate for a proper keeper.

Filan was great when he first came in, he was for a spell even better than Flowers. He was capable but never quite the same for us after breaking his arm.

We did at one point have Shay Given :)

Are the "big hitters" supposed to be arriving in this window or the summer?

Summer I suspect, January is a 'mare and you rarely get good value. I think a lot of these comments are being taken too literally (ie big hitters/free flowing attacking football). I saw these as ultimate goals rather than 'I'll be doing this from tomorrow'.

Gibson is a good player but has played 130 odd games in his entire career and he is nearly 29!

Yeah, his fitness or lack of it, is a worry. I'd like to think we could get in a player more likely to fit our needs. We really a passer of the ball more than a runner. Ideally a player who could do a bit of both ie in the Berkovic, Dunn, Bohinen style.

according to twitter the Derby Olsson offer is

£250k + £100k if go up, £150k if go up & 10 apps, 250k if go up & 20 apps + 20% profit sell on #rovers #brfc #£750k

Cunning...250k if they go up and he makes 20 appearances whilst they do so. They've only got 19 games left :P

So basically that's just 250k if they don't go up. Would rather have insisted on 500k outright.

I would imagine that is Premier League appearances?

I was being facetious. If it isn't either when he reaches 20 total appearances and they've been promoted, or 20 Premiership appearances (hopefully the former) then somebody on our end needs sacking for gross stupidity.

Gibson on a short term deal or loan would be class if he stays injury free for a decent period, his injury history says thats unlikely though. All im hoping for now this season is safety, then if all the here-say is right we can really get things going in the summer in prep for next season.

Wonder what Gordon Cowns is doing these days? :)

Stuff Olson, if he doesnt want to sign a new deal here then cluck him right off, player of the year award must have gone right to his head, doesn't he realise he won it by default cos everybody else was totaly awful last season where as he was consistently average and giving it to rhodes again would have been too obvious.

A quick Google search shows he played at Man United til 29 - obviously not being good enough.

He had 2 loan seasons during that spell where he played 21 and 31 games respectively.

However, he didn't sign for Everton until 2012, where he has made a disappointing 48 league appearances.

130 odd games is poor, but not just due to injuries - it was also the fact he was stuck at Man United for so long.

Exactly the sort of player we need, someone who can pick the ball up deep and spray it about either forward or wide. I don't understand this current obsession on here that the only way to play is to lump it up to the frontman or men and expect him to make it stick. It must be our fans have been brainwashed by several seasons of big Sam and a considerable period without any decent central midfielders!

Still feel Henley has potential. If his positioning was better to compensate his lack of height, he'd do a lot better. He just seems to get caught up when teams play long balls near him. Feel he's definitely a confidence player and hasn't improved as he should have done over the last couple of years. I feel he does better when he gets forward and runs at people. He's got the pace to skin people, he just needs the confidence. Would like to see him get stuck in a bit more too.

How long can Henley have potential for though?

Wish we'd kept Bunn by the way.

Shades of Guthrie with Gibson, he's also made of glass. We don't want to be going around giving good contracts to ageing crocks again, I thought we'd finished making agents grateful by taking their clients nobody else wants. I'm not too struck on Gibson personally.

Fettis left shortly before Souness was appointed. Fettis actually had the nerve to state after he left that he wasn't given a chance and had no respect. Tony Parkes in the understatement of the century said "As for not getting a chance, he had a spell in the side, but it did not prove too successful."

What keepers do people think Lambert should be looking at?

Fettis was rubbish.

Steele is ok but I like to see a big, imposing keeper who is a leader and organiser. They seem a dying breed too.
