Monthly payments to ramp up after June? If that's the case, surely we could find our way round like Boro or Derby.

I think Boro and Derby are better off because they have better revenues and it's been a while since they were in the Premier League, so they eased the financial burden of having crap overpriced players. They are forking out wages for players that make an impact, whereas you see us finally coming through that period and it hitting Fulham and Cardiff etc who came down after us. We blew a fortune on managers, mistakes and misfits.

Middlesbrough have spent and continue to spend fortunes on gates of 15,000 a week with no parachute payments. If they are allowed to spend like they have done these last 2-3 years then I see no reason why we shouldn't be able to spend at their level.

We seem to be overlooking that we should have quite a head start on most clubs in this league. We have spent next to nothing in coming up on 2 years now. In almost 3 seasons our cash buys have been Duffy (few hundred grand), Steele (next to nothing), Conway (few hundred grand), Gestede (few hundred grand) and Cairney (few hundred grand). Somewhere in the region of half a million or so in 3 seasons. Very low when compared to similar sized clubs with similar resources. We should have £10 million lying around somewhere after being forced into cashing in on our prized assets of Gestede and Cairney in the summer. I'd like to see that £10 million reinvested into players of quality to replace the quality we have lost.

Derby are on a different level because they get gates of 30,000 every week at the moment, and only 2-3 clubs in this league can compete with those numbers. So that explains why they can spend more than most, but still doesnt quite make up for the £25 million they've splurged their way through in the last 18 months.

Middlesbrough aren't on a different level. Up until last season their average gates were 14000-15000 a week which is within our range and has only risen to about 20000 despite being top of the league and having the best home record in the Football League. Last year their revenues were lower than ours. If we're a 'small impoverished northern town' as Rovers supporters often seem happy to paint Blackburn as then Middlesbrough is very much in the same boat.

Lambert has already explained this January spending plans and why he is mainly restriction to loans deal.

How many times do you need to be told?

IMO, We will spend big in the summer(10 mil plus) on new players.

Told ?

When do Rovers begin to start winning football matches then ?

It's easier to sell tickets for a winning team.

The accounts are there to see though. We've been bleeding money and mistakes like Best cost us £10,000,000 for 13 games

And who allegedly wont get of the team bus anymore so was good to us

Olsson's not great but he's good in this division and certainly better than Spurr - so yes, the team is weaker today than it was yesterday. I'm long past the stage when I mourn these sort of departures but I would say only that Olsson leaving continues the trend of the past 5 years of the team overall getting steadily weaker.

We've also been signing c.5 players at least every transfer window for the past 4 years, and running a massive squad. Signing on fees, loan fees and wages arent cheap.

Plus I'd bank on clubs like Middlesbrough and Derby to have professional financial advisers on how the owners can invest money without triggering FFP rules, like the 'marketing company' in Sheffield that allows Leicesters owners to avoid FFP rules.

That would only be of major concern if you believed that the new manager is operating without a plan or budget, or both.

MO isn't very good and didn't want to be here. Good riddance. Lambert is used to operating at a much higher level. Most of our players will be driving him mad with their mentality, attitude and lack of ability.

I'm hoping he gets shut of most of them. I'm hoping at long last we get a quality keeper, recognised right back, two left sided players, a creative midfielder and a striker with pace. They are all on borrowed time.

Also Marshall £1mill, Evans £850k

The Sun (pinch of salt) newspaper reporting that Boro have bid £9 million for Rhodes with £2 million in add-ons.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/6888586/Blackburn-striker-Jordan-Rhodes-is-11million-target-for-Middlesbrough.html

Apparently they bid £10 million straight up in the summer, and now they are bidding £9 million, with £2 million of performance related add ons.

Personally I would tell them to do one.
If we sell Rhodes we are nailed on to go down in my opinion.
Cost of relegation to League One will be way more than what we'd get for Rhodes and I doubt the club could recover from it with their financial state as it is.

Its going to a big call for Lambert and the owners for sure.

If Rhodes did leave, who would Lambert target and how much of the money would he get to spend now?

Could we get James Husband(left back) as part of the deal?

Fode Koita set to leave Rovers. Fee around 200k mark https://t.co/xudfBJ7r5K

not too fussed about this one, but with Olsson leaving, the squad is beginning to feel very light imo. We have to see out this season and remain in this league, and then hope Lambert can do the business on and off the field. I have a feeling, if we stay up, that Lambert will then use his contacts in and around Europe. I think that he is trying to see this one out, and then going for it in the summer with some major signings.

I Leave that for other ppl.

My focus is about Football and discussing transfer news and speculation in this thread.

Dont get involved in petty pointless arguments. Not my thing.

You do seem determined to sell Rhodes though.

At 9m it's a no brainer "no deal" for me. Can't see that it's a "big decision" for Lambert at all. Wouldn't even consider an offer of less than 15m given the state of the rest of our strikeforce. Plus we'd presumably get more for him in summer.

Fode is a shame but always seemed to be heading this way.

Rhodes is interesting as to who will make the call, when it comes to that amount of money I would imagine the call the sell or keep comes from above likes it has in the past with Rhodes and the sale of Cairney In summer.

With Jackson and Graham coming in a striker had to go. Not suprised its Koita. A shame its not Brown.

A massive few days for us now to the end of the window. We need

1 number 10 (to replace Lawrence as he is off)

1 passing midfielder

1 left back

Can we get anyone of quality?

Not a problem moving Koita on. No need keeping players that aren't going to do anything here, and to get 200k for a player we brought in during our embargo then it's pretty good business on the face of it.

Can't see Rhodes going. We get this story every transfer window, and several a times during each of them too! Last week it was all about Ross McCormack with Boro and this week it's back to Rhodes. They should concentrate on getting promoted rather than incessantly pestering other teams players.
