Watt set to sign then. Good signing. Did well at Cardiff who wanted to sign him until they were put into an embargo. Again, as with Graham, I would imagine the intention is to make this one permanent in the summer once the FFP rules are eased. It's similar to the deal we did for DJ a few years back.

A strikeforce of Watt, Graham, Rhodes and Jackson looks a lot better than Fode, Brown, Delfouneso and Rhodes.

Interesting. This lad is rapid.

Does that not leave us top heavy up front now? We have four strikers

Four strikers is about right. It looks as though Brown will be shifted out this window then, and Delfouneso too if there are any takers (prob not!).

I don't think he is unwanted down to lack of quality I think its more to free up a wage. He did really well in his first season at Charlton and Cardiff who are far better placed than Charlton have been keen to sign him permanently. I've seen him a few times for Celtic and he's quick and a bit of a nuisance too, shades of the Craig Bellamy about him. Would certainly give us another option up top and much needed pace. An attack Rhodes, Graham and Watt doesn't look to shabby at all.

Thanks for that, does sound more promising then. Are Charlton in dire financial straits? I don't remember them being embargoed and yet they loaned out a decent player before they looked dead certs for relegation? Seems a bit odd. Something behind the scenes maybe?

According to Wiki, Charlton refused an extension of the loan for Cardiff. So for them to loan him to us surely means something permanent is lined up.

Watt is an interesting one. Looked like he could go on to really big things when he first broke through at Celtic but is meant to have an attitude problem so was shipped out on loan to Belgium. Pretty sure he fell out with a manager over there as well.

I think he originally did quite well at Charlton but that club is a bit of a basket case so not really sure what happened after that. Loaned to Cardiff who wanted to sign him permanently but couldn't because of their embargo.

Has pace and can finish but like I said, meant to have a questionable attitude. He was basically still a kid when scoring that goal against Barca and I think it might have got to his head a bit. Maybe a fellow Scot and Celtic man could get him back on the right track, plus he's a few years older now.

Charlton are a mess off and on the pitch hence the recent protests. No doubt there is a guaranteed buy clause in there - they need the cash so hey wouldn't loan him unless there was a sale in there somewhere.

Not sure he's the type to bag 20 goals per season but he does have pace, will run the channels, and give our attack a different dynamic. I like the mix of strikers PL is making sure he has at his disposal - a goalscorer in Rhodes, a targetman in Graham, a pacy player in Watt, and he's looking to bring in a "number 10" as well.

I imagine he's on fairly big wages at Charlton. He was brought in to quite a bit of fanfare. Did well at Celtic, winning young player of the month a few times, got Champions League experience and 2 relatively successful spells in Belgium.

He scored 2 and has 2 assists for Cardiff in 9 games, which is a good record in my book. Prior to that he had 2 goals and 2 assists in 11 games in a woeful Charlton side. 5 goals and 2 assists in 22 last season.

Tony Watt is exactly the player we should be signing! Great great signing! Wish it was on a permanent! Need to bring a creative midfielder.

Probably with a view to a permanent deal in summer if he works out OK.

I agree. There's no benefit to Charlton of letting him go out on loan to us unless there is a promise of a buy at the end of it. They were all set to sell him to Cardiff a few weeks ago before they got slapped with an embargo and the move collapsed. They've probably been waiting to see if anyone offered the cash immediately and are now agreeing to a loan with a view to a buy in the summer.

Charlton's business model is all about cashing in on their players, so if he's on a decent wage or there's a good fee to be had then they will sell him without a seconds thought.

I think he would be a very good signing for us, exactly the sort we should be looking at. A good age, played at this level and scored goals. I'd be very happy if we were getting him to replace Koita or Lawrence.

I just hope if we do get him there is indeed some sort of promise or clause in place to make it permanent in the summer.

Am I the only one a little surprised at the potential McGeady move - especially after bringing in Bennett I would have thought there were other areas of the team needing improvement rather than yet more wingers.

Not saying he isn't better than what we have - just that there are other areas (like a creative midfield player and left back) that are more urgent.

I don't see why they have to be mutually exclusive, we could still be looking at CM/LB options whilst bringing in McGeady to strengthen our wingplay. We only have Conway, Taylor & Bennett in that position, as Marshall's converted to RB.

If this link is accurate, he wouldn't come cheap.

Cardiff's agreed fee said to be just under 2 million. If we do have a permanent deal set up, I hope it's something we can renege on if it doesn't work out.

What a state we're in when ~£2m is considered mega bucks.

It's not an unreasonable fee for us to spend on someone I imagine, especially after bringing in about a million this week. But that kind of money has to be spent on the right player. It's similar to what we paid for Goodwillie in the Prem, and that was (rightly) considered a bit of a gamble too.

I've read the link above regarding Watt, it doesn't mention specifically that he is signing for Rovers yet some posts above suggest it is going to happen. Have I missed something? Can the itk crew help me out here?

Thanks.

Likewise. And am I the only one who thinks that £2m would be an extortionate fee for somebody who has pretty much flopped?

Yes, there was another link

The one I posted before was just a reference to how much Cardiff were going to pay. But the one here is the relevant one.
