joey_big_nose
Watt sounds a good signing. If we get more mobile and threatening up top it will help out the mids as well. Rhodes also does much better with pace alongside imo. Only question I would have is what does Graham bring to the party? Hes like a poor version of Rhodes... slow, not skillful, not a target man. Plus he has a very patchy scoring record unlike Rhodes. On the midfielder front PL must reckon what we have is sufficient. If he can get Guthrie fit then maybe okay but if hes not available we are really struggling. Akpan, Evans, Lowe, Williamson are all technically very limited players who just cant pass well over even medium distances and stuggle to retain the ball. The strength of your bench is crucial. You need a match winner or two that you can bring on to change the direction of the game.

I hope people at the club at the club haven't been telling PL that " Lowe is the star midfielder and just wait while you see him fit and raring to go." RoverMinion
You don't really believe the bit about Phil Jones do you? About as much as I believe it was appropriate for him to bring his young son into a Sky Presser because he was afraid of being asked questions about being sacked. The point remains though. Under Bowyer quite a lot of talent went out who went on to be a success and it does make you wonder.

McClarky
We still need a leader, a captain, someone who can organise and dictate the play form the middle. Itt's a number 4 or 8 that we need.

Cardiff wanted to sign him after his loan but were unable due to their transfer embargo.Seems like Lambert has been rather shrewd. Not all managers are a fan of his though! http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/teams/celtic/tony-watt-branded-lazy-and-unfit-by-loan-club-boss-1-3107023

danger19_80
Hopefully we'll start to see why having a manager of Lambert's stature in the game is crucial when it comes to a player like Watt. By all accounts a bit of a loose cannon but if focussed and motivated can make a massive difference (doesn't get much bigger than Champions League winner v Barca!) Surely with the Celtic connection, Lambert will be able to get the best out of him. Could be an exciting one for us fans if this comes off and those two spark together. McClarky
The goal against Barca was a good few years ago and he has done little since. I think he had just come off the bench in 1 of those games where Barca have about 90% possession and just can't score. Good finish though. He was tipped to do well at Shelec and didn't develop. Of all the signings we have made though this window at least this 1 has some potential and I suppose if he had lived up to some of his potential he wouldn't be coming to the likes of us on loan from Charlton would he. Why don't Charlton want him though?

chaddyrovers
https://audioboom.com/boos/4117884-i-need-to-get-somebody-in-paul-lambert-on-his-search-for-reinforcements-for-onerovers Interesting listening to Lambert here... He talks about the need for a "number 10" role player, and says he hopes to bring one in. Also says the Lawrence deal is bizarre, 4 weeks loan and then decide if he wants to remain. Personally I would cut Lawrence's loan now and move on. Also mentions very clearly "Fode wasn't a high standard player" (or words to that effect). Now bearing in mind the quality of football we have been playing more recently under Bowyer, and how the team is lacking quality under Lambert. Also remembering Bowyer handed Fode a 2+ year contract. It does make you wonder whether Bowyer just wasn't recognising the higher standard of player. I know I am probably going to get panned for saying this, but I remember Kean saying that the academy wanted rid of Jones, and he stopped that happening. Also looking at the other players we have released who have gone on to do well, it does make you wonder whether Bowyer maybe had a slight blind-spot judging quality. I know he was restricted budget wise. But we could have brought in loans etc... People have rightly praised Bowyer for getting rid of the Kean/Appleton/Berg era dross. I get the feeling Lambert is now trying to filter through the Bowyer era dross. I agree with you about Lawrence. I reckon he will go back to Leicester and then when the Loan window opens in February he moves to another Championship club. Bowyer was restricted to players who wages were under 10k. he took a chance Koita. just like he did with Gestede. Bowyer should have got us promote last season with the squad we had. BUT Lambert has come here to get this club promote and not be a mid table championship club. http://www.rovers.co.uk/news/article/paul-lambert-blackburn-rovers-2926106.aspx From reading this makes me think that a centre mid isn't even on Lamberts agenda... From listening to the Lambert's BBC Radio Lancs it appears to me that he isn't atm looking to replace Olsson and will use Spurr there and use Henley as a back up. cos he wants to strength other areas of the team. I'm hoping that Tony Watt is the pacey striker we have lacked all season and turns out to be a good signing. hoping its a loan deal with a view to a perm deal if he performs

Backroom DE. Posted January 28, 2016 Backroom Share Posted January 28, 2016 Koita could still become another Modeste yet. Unlikely I'd say. Modeste had a decent scoring record before he joined us and I daresay a better manager than Kean would have gotten more out of him during his brief spell with us. Koita's goalscoring record before he joined us was poor, and even though he had nearly three times as many apps as Modeste for us playing a division lower he never got going. I very much doubt we'll regret letting him go.

Gestede had proven himself in his loan spell before we handed him the 3 and a half year deal. What had Fode Koita done to warrant a 2 year contract? If we were going to give him a chance, we should have handed him a year long deal with an option of a second year. Thank goodness for Kasimpasa.
