Not really. A million and one reasons may result in any option /deal being a non - starter. Plus there are a lot of players to choose from.

These particular players being mentioned and leaving for other clubs are exactly the sorts of player we need to be in for though. Would like to get this Rhodes deal done and get in for Bradley Dack at Gillingham.

We'll be trying to do things on the cheap as usual and this 9 mill if it goes through will be er....... oh yeah kept dry till the summer !

Most probably. From Lamberts interview yesterday he sounded like we'll only try and strengthen full back positions and said we are ok up top, so I wouldn't be expecting and forwards coming in when Rhodes leaves.

Defensively we seem ok and up front it appears we now have a cutting edge. It's midfield where we are weak and central midfield where we are weakest. Maybe any of Akpan, Evans, Lowe, Lenihan etc can play the defensive role adequately but none of them really look happy or assured going forward with the ball. I'd like to see a good chunk spent on a class, mobile, central midfield player who can direct the traffic and hold the ball when needed.

Gibson has been mentioned. He's not really that sort of player, he's more of a running and shooting midfielder who can get up with the forwards but not a playmaker. A poor mans Frank Lampard maybe. We haven't got one of those either but his injury record doesn't fill me with confidence. A 23 year old David Dunn would have been ideal. There must be somebody out there that fits that bill.

He's gone on record to say he wants a number 10 this window.

Hasn't he got that in Tony Watt or Simeon Jackson? Don't know too much about them both yet, but I think they fit that position.

I think he sold Rhodes because he wants to play a different way. A way that Rhodes wouldn't be suited to. None of the names we've been linked with so far have me on the edge of my seat but I'll wait and see.

I have been saying this for a while now and been shouting down everytime.

Lambert will play his style of play and his way and not change it for one player cos he is about the team

I think we will sign some good players in the summer that will excite you mate

Yes, Lambert is all about the collective team performance but he's not the first to feel like this about Rhodes. The last regime felt exactly the same and actively courted his sale. The interesting thing is that Venkys actively blocked it every time...not so with PL which is proof that he has their backing.

Based on what he said yesterday it would appear that they have huge plans for the summer. My feeling is that he'll strengthen any glaring shortages before Tuesday. Anything else will depend on what's available.

This is what I'm looking forward to the most under Lambert. him bringing in players that are good enough to get us promote next season.

I would imagine that he will be already look at potential signings for the summer.

Good post with points that many will agree with. However I think that all Lamberts interviews have had some substance and rang a chord with me. His honesty has been refreshing.

I think Lambert has been very open and honest in his interviews and I would imagine he was with the owners and this advisor person

I believe that when negotiating and discussing the job here Lambert sought a guarantee from the powers at the club that he would have the final say on signings and departures and that they would have to do things his way. He probably had some idea what had happened in the past with Rhodes being kept due to the owners blocking it and Cairney being sold against the manager and players wishes. They got away with it with Bowyer, but Lambert wouldn't and won't put up with it.

I think that the 'adviser' responsible for lining Lambert up will have delivered these terms to the owners before he was appointed and Venkys have agreed to go along with the manager's requests.

I also believe that Bowyer would have been sacked last summer, and was very close to being, but with us remaining under an embargo and having to sell some players to bring money in they decided it would be easier to keep Bowyer in situ for a while until they knew for sure the embargo was being lifted and it would therefore be significantly easier to attract a bigger name manager. Their refusal to meet with Bowyer last summer and his rumoured application for the Sheffield United job suggests his time was up, he knew it and they knew it, yet for some reason they left him in place until the club was out of the embargo.

very good post and some good points made.

Looks like Derby might be offloading Warnock and Bent. Would love Darren Bent here! Probably unlikely, though.

No thanks

Bent on a lot of money and Warnock is far too slow now

Fox not signing according to Nixon on Twitter

thanks god for that

How the hell are burnley in for pritchard and qpr for roofe and we just not interested aaaargh

I would like us to sign Roofe but with us signing Watt on loan, it looks unlikely we will move for him

Is this based on anything at all?

Depends what you mean by a No 10. My idea of a No 10 is somebody who can link up play and slots in behind the front two. A David Dunn or a Eyal Berkovic. Other people think a No 10 is a Chris Sutton, Mike Newall type player who plays up front with your centre forward.

Watt could be the latter type but Jackson doesn't fit either of those descriptions. Our front two, barring accidents, I think will be Graham and Watt with Jackson replacing one of those two with say 15 or 20 minutes to go. If we're losing he could bring Jackson on then and go three up front. Isn't it great to have options again ?

Warnock's been playing well for Derby according to reports. Speed isn't the only asset of a left-back, or any player for that matter.

With the way our season has gone, and now it's a write-off, what's wrong with keeping the money until summer? Makes sense to me, particularly now that we've got two strikers in on loan to see us safely to the end of the season.

No confirmation on Rhodes yet...

Could IT be a premier side coming in for Rhodes?

Have you not read the previous Twitter stuff?

If it's a Premier League side, I'd go with Sunderland. Or Villa. In Remi Garde's words, regarding a new striker: "I would like - and am still expecting." "I still have hope that I will sign one player, yes."

Then again, it could be Rhodes' agent play silly beggars.

This is what we want. Get that price jacked up.

Mentioned this on the Rhodes thread but surely we won't get more cash having accepted a bid at a certain price.

Other clubs will just match that price, get their bid accepted as well, then they make tgeir offer to Rhodes.

Only person I see benefitting from new bidders is Rhodes.

We shouldn't have accepted a bid until we had checked if others would offer more.

Course it's good for us. We can turn down Boro bid anytime, Newcastle could pay same amount but all up front. This is good for us and him.
