So Boro get cold feet so we lower our demands how about we give them a couple of mil and pick up a portion of his wage to help them take him.

If anything we should charge them an extra mil for the inconvenience. Lower our fee I've never heard anything so ridiculous.

Aye, we'll just chuck £13m away. That'll show him.

Rovers have plenty to lose in all this. At the moment, Lambert is playing hardball - out of spite it looks like - but it's a big big gamble. Rhodes and his agent are still quids in, even if Rovers put him in the reserves and it will strengthen his case for a cut price move in the Summer if he isn't getting game time. If this goes wrong then we have a multimillion pound asset that doesn't realise any value, and a 25-goal-per-sea own striker who doesn't score any goals. Lambert seems to suggest that goals are only important if you want to get promoted but they also count in relegation battles too funnily enough.

We've brought in Graham and Watt and all of a sudden we can afford to put Rhodes out in the cold. Beating Oxford has given our fans a false sense of security right now.

Let's hope for everyone's sake that Rhodes leaves today and that Graham and Watt find those 25 goals between them.

The only thing I imagine the whole Rhodes' thing is about is bonuses. As he didn't ask for a transfer, only asked to be allowed to talk in the summer, he/ his agents probably expected a loyalty bonus from Rovers. He probably didn't get one so has probably tried to get the extra cash from Boro, who have told him to do one as well.

I still expect the deal to go through at 22.58 tonight allowing Rovers a busy 1 minute to give some one a medical and a further minute for the fax machine to breakdown.

This isn't rovers' problem. We shouldn't be held over a barrel. If Rhodes wants his big move then he should see it happens. If Boro come calling with a reduced offer I'd keep them hanging on until 2259hrs before saying no.

Rhodes needs to keep scoring goals regardless. Three more years contracted to Rovers. If the motive for his move is ambition then he needs to do it now. Moving at 28 doesn't give the scope it does at 25.

It doesn't matter. I'm sure he'll be gone by lunchtime anyway. Just not sure it'll definitely be to boro.

Of course it's Rovers problem. Did you mean 'fault'?

Seems apparent from Lambert's comments that there is no money available for transfers unless Rhodes is sold. Makes everyone's general assumption that there will be a huge war chest available in summer seem wildly optimistic.

If Rhodes were to go tomorrow a fresh bid from a Premier League side who can actually afford it of 12/13 m outright would be the least worst option. No fannying about with add ons we may never receive.

Still think it's madness to consider selling him now though and we're unlikely to ever get what we would like for him ever again whilst PL is manager in the wake of his comments.

Please please look into ffp and the changes beginning in the summer. Simply put:

Today - we can't spend without finances in.

Summer - we can pretty much spend what we like for three years.

I don't think they put him in the reserves. As you say, Lamberts playing hardball in an attempt to squeeze him out. But if he's still here at 11pm I expect both parties will accept the situation...

.

Not everyone Rev, I made this exact same point 2 or 3 days ago. I think I used the term "treasure chest"!(in the sense of lack thereof").

Because our manger doesn't rate him and has implied that he won't play him.

Stuart - please can you point me to the article where he says he doesn't rate Rhodes. Not saying he hasn't said it - just that a few people seem to be quoting that - and I have yet to see a statement where he says or implies that.

He has never said it publicly. That would be unprofessional and bitter. But it's defo what he thinks!!

IMHO of course...

Anyone know much about Josh Vela? seen we have been linked with him but if i'm being honest I know nothing about him

Don't know much about him other than he's considered one of Bolton's better players and Cardiff wanted to sign him before they were embargoed. I'd be looking at pressuring Bolton with a £2-3 million double bid for him and Clough.

If Lambert has come into this job and promised a rebuild that relies solely on selling Jordan Rhodes and getting the proceeds from that sale to spend then he is a fool.

There were no guarantees when he took the job or at the start of the month that a decent bid would be made for Rhodes, that Rhodes would stay fit and that Rhodes would agree to move.

I simply don't believe that Lambert's grand plan to overhaul this squad and build a side for promotion depended completely on offloading Rhodes. A man of his experience knows there are no guarantees in football, and even if he had heard rumours of Middlesbrough interest or wanted to sell Rhodes from the word go, any transfer can easily break down at a moments notice and throw plans into chaos.

I highly doubt we will see any movement unless Rhodes is sold

..

Shame about mcgeady.. Maybe we needed Rhodes deal done to offer a tad more?

A long day ahead I fear...Rhodes to boro at 22.45.. Leaving us hung and dry

I don't think we'll get hung out to dry. I'd be surprised if Lambert was planning to make any massive signings today, as he has maintained through the last few days that the Rhodes money will help him to rebuild in the summer.

If we are making any moves today I imagine they were planned pre Rhodes shambles. That's how I reckon it is anyway :)

Welcome back!

I still think we will do a bit of something as I think we were going to before the Rhodes deal seemed like a goer

I hope so..we need a number ten and/or central midfielder leader.. Otherwise I still think we are in slight trouble
