Nixon reckons Kike from Middlesbrough to Wolves is now off as a result of the Rhodes move collapsing.

Lambert promised last week that he wanted 2 more and that was before the Rhodes fiasco. He signed Tony Watt but still said he wanted another attacking player.

I hope so..we need a number ten and/or central midfielder leader.. Otherwise I still think we are in slight trouble

Yeah we definitely need some help in that area plus left back cover ideally, but that is a position that could potentially wait until the loan window as Henley can also play there if needed.

Stoke touting Charlie Adam around. He would be perfect for us, don't think we will have the cash now.

Would we realistically have been able to afford his wages anyway? If the point of selling Rhodes is to help reduce the wage bill, it makes no sense to bring in another player who will probably be on as much if not more than JR was on.

Get him on loan and pay a percentage would work for us I think. But I agree I don't think we could afford the whole shooting match at the moment.

Yeah lots of Premier League clubs are paying crazy money these days. Lots of players of the stature of Adams will be on the same money as Rhodes if not more. Maybe a loan with us paying some of his wages ? Good player at this level, he'd make a difference. Just read he's injured. Forget that then.

He's the sort of player we need though.

I thought it might of done

In other breaking news, Jordan Rhodes also revealed to be responsible for the outbreak of the zika virus on the other side of the world.

I'm not buying this all our transfer plans are dependent on Rhodes leaving malarkey. We didn't know he might be leaving until late last week so are we supposed to believe we had 2 or 3 biggish money signings lined up today?

Seems highly unlikely. The plan would probably (and hopefully) be to bank the money for use in summer. He could still be sold in summer if Lambert still wanted to,, far better to have him for a few months as insurance against relegation Id have thought.

From Alan Nixon

Blackburn. Team Charlie Adam not aware of a move. Bolton not had an offer for Vela. Rhodes thing will hit them on new signing front.

That chubby git Nixon just loves rubbing our noses in it.

Nightmare scenario today is Rhodes leaves at the 11th hour and we bring no bugger in. I defy anybody on here to tell me that would be okay and we'd be better off.

Or perahps and more likely, we were aware of Boro's interest earlier than last week and had lined up deals in the event of Rhodes being sold.

I'd expect they'd make plans based on numerous eventualities.

A player like Charlie Adam is exactly what we need in my opinion. Leader, hates to get beat, works hard, loves a tackle... Would be perfect for us. All that said, dont think he'd come or we could afford him. Theres absolutely no chance he'd turn out like Danny Murphy.

Who's 'We'?

Highly likely there have been ongoing negotiations behind the scenes for weeks on end - there are numerous reasons the bid could have been made late i.e. Boro wanted McCormack first, we wanted to get our targets essentially sewn up before we let him go etc, etc.

It makes perfect sense that any targets we had lined up would be as a result of Rhodes leaving due to the huge wages he'd be leaving behind.

Very sensible thoughts.

I'm guessing those so eager to see the back of him asap won't be complaining if he scores 6 goals against us for Middlesbrough that contributes towards our relegation?

If he's going to go then if the club would have any sense it would be a loan deal with everything teed up to make it permanent in the summer with a fixed agreed fee and promise from Middlesbrough to buy. That way they still get him signed but at the very least he wouldn't be able to play against us twice.

Bet there's an agreement in place where he won't play next week if he does go.
