Neal Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Perhaps we could enquire after Galloway in his stead? He is out of favour now they have players fit again but wouldnt be surprised if they wanted to keep him just in case. Nothing wrong with making an inquiry.

Neal Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Rochina with another class performance tonight against Madrid. Still time for him to develop into a top player, wish Lambert would have had the chance to manage him.
47er Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Or if you insist on replying to every post that is critical of JR. Please let's not have another 5 pages of a circular JR argument, it's very tedious. Stuart, there is nothing at all personal in my post but the above post does ring true. Rhodes was with us for several seasons, there are bound to be many references to him for quite a while. Are you going to feel the need to defend him on every one of those occasions? And assume there is something personal in it when someone comes back at you? If so, we are going to have a very testy and boring time on here for months? Why can't you just ignore it? Its not as if Rhodes will be thinking of you!
47er Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 I thought the performances of Graham and Watt yesterday perfectly illustrated the type of front man that Lambert wants. Both have the ability to work the channels and the ball sticks with both when it is played up to then. Graham was excellent yesterday in holding the ball and then bringing the midfield into play and it was no coincidence that our midfield men found themselves in and around the penalty area far more yesterday than I can remember in a long time. Lambert is introducing a different style of play and clearly he didn't think Rhodes suited the role he wanted his front men to play. Rather than have him sitting on the bench as a fringe player it surely made more sense to part company and collect a decent fee that will enable the rebuilding to continue in the summer. I guess this accounts for an overdue return to form from Evans who like Marshall showed far more talent when he joined us than he has since. On the subject of midfield, any chance of Marshall returning there do you think PB? I cannot believe his creative skills aren't wasted at right-back, looked a worldie a couple of seasons back. He could recover his zest and flair as the team picks up. There would have to be be a new right-back signing obviously!
SoldierMo Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I'm pleased that both Graham and Watt played well and played the way Lambert is wanting. I have commented in the past the type of way Lambert wanted to play. Now appears that we are playing his way. No you never...you said Lambert wants to play long ball to the big target man...which is not how we played
The Rover of Finland Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Perhaps we could enquire after Galloway in his stead?Good call as Baines and Oviedo are back. Galloway did very well to cover. A young lad and it would benefit Everton to loan him.Don't think Gibson is an alternative any more as Gomez is here. Did Harrison Reed from Southampton go anywhere. Think Koeman was pondering to let him go on loan. Nadil Bentaleb is hardly getting any calls as even Carroll is ahead of him.
chaddyrovers Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 No you never...you said Lambert wants to play long ball to the big target man...which is not how we played Never said Long ball. Said a direct style. But we are playing with a target man with skilful/pacey striker arent we?
Blueandwhitemike Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Not really no, Danny Graham isn't and never has been a target man.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I'm pleased that both Graham and Watt played well and played the way Lambert is wanting. I have commented in the past the type of way Lambert wanted to play. Now appears that we are playing his way. I think he gave the guys we already had a chance to play his way. After a couple of months he saw they either couldn't or wouldn't play his way so he's brought guys in who will.
joey_big_nose Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 To be honest the main priority has to be the full backs now. We could do with a left back and a right back. Think we are okay at CB, midfield, wing and up front. Obviously always room for improvement, I wouldn't say no to quality anywhere, but the positions we are weakest in are at full back. Reckon we might settle into this formation ---------------------Steele Marshall----Ward----Hanley----Spurr ---------------------Evans --------Lenihan---Gomez----Akpan ----------------Watt----Graham It's a shame we don't still have Olsson as a narrow formation like that really benefits from an athletic full back who can get up and down. I'd still like to see Guthrie come back in when he is properly fit as he is a much better technical player than Lenihan, Akpan and Evans. Also not sure what we are going to do about Conway. He is an excellent crosser at this level, but a real specialist winger who needs to be allowed to hug the touchline. Not sure Lambert will go for him long term. Seems to want players who can cover a larger area on the pitch.

He could work in the midfield 3 I recon. He could do a job but I think it wouldnt suit him. He hates playing inside. He works very hard, no doubt about that at all, but he likes to stick to the touchline. We will see but I cant see him starting too often in Lamberts brave new world.
Neal Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Few of us on here recommended going for Anthony Knockaert. He was a class act on Friday night, wished we'd have gone for him.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted February 8, 2016 Moderation Lead Posted February 8, 2016 Few of us on here recommended going for Anthony Knockaert. After he left Leicester I thought he'd gone to Belgium, I didn't think a transfer would be on the cards. Missed a trick there I think.

Lancaster Rover Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Markus had a brilliant debut for Derby, managed to get on the scoresheet.....................

Thought Watt was a loan with a view to buy - so would be surprised if there is a recall clause.

He is a big improvement on Henley and he likes to get forward. IMO we need to ease Conway into the LB position, he's a much better all round player than Spurr and can also get forward. But, to counter the above, I am desperate to watch exciting, attacking, quicker football rather than the stuff we've got used to.
Guest Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Thought Watt was a loan with a view to buy - so would be surprised if there is a recall clause. From his comments about Charlton, and Riga's comments about him, I don't think we have to worry about Watt going back.

Conway may get away with being the left half-back in front of a back three, with Marshall as the right half-back.
chaddyrovers Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Conway at Left back? no thanks. We need a new left back in the summer but lets not move Conway there. he isn't left footed and IMO wouldn't be comfortable there
Doug Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Conway may get away with being the left half-back in front of a back three, with Marshall as the right half-back. Yes, I could also see that. My concern is that we may start struggling to accommodate him in MF.
The Rover of Finland Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Is Adam Henley totally written off? He is only 21 I think. Lenihan seems to be very close for being a regular. Whose next from adademy? Could Mansell be given a chance once the relegation battle is over (hopefully happily)?
