I do think he was a bit previous putting out the free flowing football line before working with our squad. I said at the time we just aren't capable of that and it's equally as daft for regular watchers to expect it, or moan about it when it doesn't happen.

I do however think it's obvious this is what he wants although maybe a more direct, aggressive pace and power game rather than free flowing. I also expect that is what he will build given time and we'll look a whole lot different this time next season than we do now. Whether it gets us anywhere who knows but it's nice at last to see a manager who actually wants to work to a plan and implement an actual style of play again.

Not that it was everyones cup of tea but we haven't had a style of play since Big Sam was here.

Your memory of Bowyer seems to be that miniscule shaft of light from the second half at Fulham and lasted for a few games where we finally closed down and moved forwards with just an ounce of desire - right up until he got sacked. Let me assure you, the majority was either bland, tame and extremely toothless. We attacked when behind and stumbled through games, perpetually passing sideways. This left us with win percentage of about 17% and flirting with the bottom three.

You are trying to convince season ticket holders and people who have followed this club through thick and thin that what they witnessed, never actually happened. To say you are on to a loser and a minority with your skewed view of events is an understatement.

So you're saying the football has improved under Lambert? Will it improve now he can't really sign anyone? These are the questions i'm asking. Saying i'm 'on to a loser' and 'in a minority' isn't really an argument.

I've had a season-ticket for every year bar 3 since the late 70's. I've got one this year too.

O shut up you tedious clampit

hee hee ..what he said

a bluffer is someone who promises something (fast attacking football, not accepting mediocrity) and delivers something completely different.

please describe why Lambert is a snidy dick then.

No insults please.

Now, anything to add on the Rovers or transfers in general. No? Bye-bye then.

talk about a two faced post

not at all Ricky.

The conversation was between me and a Palace fan whilst we were discussing it.

I think Palace will sign another striker during the transfer window and that's why I see Chamakh being available. in the last game Pardew played Campbell up front and NOT Chamakh. Plus they have Wickham and Gayle. But only play 1 up front so that's why I can see both Chamakh and Gayle being available in January

BUT Chamakh fit the type of striker Lambert is looking for. Striker who can link the play and hold the ball up.

give you a clue ,,,,nothing on twitter is between two people .

THIS IS A TRANSFER THREAD, SOD OFF TO THE LAMBERT THREAD IF YOU WANT TO BITCH THE DAY AWAY :tu:

What? I was just talking about transfers and the club not buying anyone.

You've really got a bee in your bonnet because i haven't got all giddy and joined in the Lambo love-in. I don't rate him based on what i've seen and heard so far. Get over it, it's a MB.

Seeing how YOU brought it up though:-

Interesting he won't have any money to spend. He'll have to do well with what he's got, with the addition of a couple of loans here and there until the summer when he may get a bit of money and also get some decent freebies in (If he sells Rhodes this may change) So all this 'he's got his hands tied' and he'll come good when he gets loads of new players in is frankly bunkum. He, like most other managers at this level, will have known the job when he got it. We don't have money, HE HAS TO WORK WITH WHAT HE'S GOT. So let's see how he does. So far it's dross. I think it's ok to point that out.

I'm sure he'll mention going training with Pep again soon. He did this at Villa too when they were dross. Could it possible be that he's a bit of a bluffer who's big on his own PR? 'Fast attacking football' LOL

Hold on a minute, he only went training with Pep and in Germany AFTER leaving Villa didn't he?

Lambert can't afford to fail at Rovers. He's taken the job because he was comfortable with the offer and believed he could deliver promotion.

Not even the most optimistic individual would say that this squad is promotion material. We are 4-5 quality players short of competing for the top six, never mind top two.

Lambert knew the squad he was getting included dross like Brown, Williamson and Delfouneso. Yet still put his neck on the line and took the job and accepted promotion as his remit.

He'd be incredibly brave or stupid to agree to that if all he had to work with was the loan market.

Agree that Lambert will not have come unless promised substantial backing.

I do however disagree that most of the players are poor. To be honest the first XI is decent imo, though precious little talent on the bench. We desperately need a better partner for Rhodes and maybe a right back. Apart from that its not a bad side.

Really we should be getting a lot more from what we have and augmenting them with quality signings. A wholesale clearout is not required or I think possible.

I was pleased that Lambo came and still totally support him but suprised and a little worried previously solid performers like Olsson, Conway and Akpan seem to be playing worse than they were under Bowyer.

If we can go out and sign a whole new team and they get us promoted then great but I don't think thats likely. Lambo needs to get the likes of Marshall etc back to their best alongside new signings.

I clearly said you are over - expectant and nuts to think that things will remarkably change within 7 games (and 11 massively important points might I add). I am amazed that with your age and experience that you have not picked up any common sense along the way - I made your mistake and wrongly presumed something, and in all honesty that you were a very impatient teenage boy in need of a bit of realism.

I think everyone has tried to speak sense to you and summed it up perfectly - None are his players, nowhere near enough time to judge him and he has already obtained better results with a bunch of relatively poor players who have been conditioned with mediocrity. There's nothing more to be said I suppose and out of respect to the forum rules, I'll gladly follow it up in the correct thread.

In terms of transfers and style - yes he will definitely sign people and yes things will definitely improve. I don't think both of Marshall and Rhodes will be here in Feb and I wouldn't be shocked if Spurr and a keeper moved on.

When it comes to football & transfers twitter is like browsing ebay for a second hand car. 90% of what's on there is RUBBISH !

It's all about who you follow. There are some absolute gems on there. Likewise there are some people on the fringes of society too.

As a rule, if someone doesn't use their own name then they are ripping off someone else's info or making it up.

Just have to look in the right places.

He didn't give a time frame chief. Give him a little time. I doubt any manager could get a team comprised of Akpan, Guthrie, Marshall, Brown, Koita and so on playing fast, attacking football. The exact quote was:

I’m not going to stand here and say everything is going to click into place right away but, in my own mind, I know the way we want to play.

“In the league there have been a lot of draws, but not too many defeats, and we’ve got to try and turn the draws into wins.

“But Gary deserves a lot of credit for stabilising it and we’ve got to go and raise the bar again, and get them in a situation when they’re going to be close.

“There is still a wee bit of work to be done but let’s see what happens in the next few months.”

Lambert said: "It's time to play an entertaining brand of football and try to win games.” He referred to trying to get fans "on the edge of the seats"

That represents to me chief a promise to play attacking football even with "Akpan, Guthrie, Marshall, Brown and Koita" .

Meanwhile back to the transfer window and the impending arrival of Chamakh et al.

I felt like the ultimate goal was the 'entertaining, attaching football' rather than an immediate thing.

Still, if people take things literally that's up to them...

no when he was there, and also when he left. He mentioned it a lot in press conferences.

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11677/9594724/aston-villa-boss-paul-lambert-takes-time-out-in-munich

But the Scot was reluctant to disclose exactly what he had learned, adding: "I think what I saw there should probably stay in my own head." It did. He was sacked two months later. :P

Get someone to read back to you where the thread was derailed.

My original post was about the transfers.

You've posted nothing about transfers, just bitchy comments. Have a read of Gav's post and then have a think.

I come on to a transfer thread to read about transfers so if you post on that subject here I'll be very happy. Not being on Twitter or similar this MB and NewsNow are where I look for info.

Bitchy comments? that is rich, you are having a laugh.

Every new manager has to make some kind of statement of intent.

What exactly was he supposed to say?

"I'm going to carry on in the spirit of Gaz and make sure the lads continue to give it a right good go" ?

Lambert said: "It's time to play an entertaining brand of football and try to win games.” He referred to trying to get fans "on the edge of the seats"

Indeed he did, but he didn't say it would happen within the first seven games of being here so to take him to task on that is incredibly harsh and a little bit naughty.

Furthermore the people digging him out for that particular comment were generally the first to complain about people digging GB out for whatever he said in a presser. "It's only important what happens on the pitch" etc.. Now they want it both ways.

The bottom line is, Lambert may or may not work out in the long term, you can't guarantee success with any manager. Make no mistake though GB had to be removed and it was the right decision irrespective of how Lambert does. PL has a relatively good track record, so without the benefit of a crystal ball it was as good an appointment as we could have made in the circumstances. I'm really not sure why certain posters are bitching about it.
