I would not..you talking about 3mids 2 strikers and backups all in 10-12mill which has to have goals too...cant believe how crazy people are..everyone agrees our midfield is pi55 poor then how is the striker going to score

You could get a RB, midfielder and two strikers for 10 million.

Don't have to solve every problem in one window.

There's a debate to be had about Rhodes and the rest of the strikers, but you're not up to it Abbey. You've added nothing but insults really.

It was gallows humour pal not an insult in any shape or form . I apologise for insulting . There's no debate really Rhodes = goals .. The rest don't .

Hypothetically would you take 10 million with it all reinvested in the first 11?

Not in January no, but in the summer maybe if Lambert see's fit.

The hardest position to fill is your goalscorer, so letting one go and trying to replace him with say 3/4m would be a tough task.

If those idiots in Pune are serious about promotion they should give Lambert 10m and keep Rhodes, now that would show a bit of ambition.

Cant see Cardiff letting Pilkington go, He's in their first team, and I wouldn't think he's one of their highest paid players either.

Holt as a option from the bench for no outlay, wouldn't be the worst thing for me.

They won't do that. More chance of finding Shergar.

In an ideal world, at a well run club, the scouting department would have 3/4 replacements in mind for every position all the time. Know value, wage demands etc.

What that allows you to do is sell your own players at a premium and bring in quality, researched replacements.

I would always sell a player over his value, that's how I see us progressing in the future.

No, fair enough, not exactly an insult. But you don't add much apart from the hater comment. It doesn't really add anything.

If we want him enough, and Pilkington kicks up a fuss, then Cardiff won't have much say in the matter.

I'm not sure Pilkington is that sort of player, though.

I am firmly in the keep Rhodes camp! As Abbey said he is a goal scorer but he needs better supply or someone to play off and the options up front at the moment are not helping him at all!

Marshall looks so far off a the moment and Conway has dipped too!

In the middle Evans looks bright but he has been injured and Akpan is inconsistent but tries hard.

Guthrie has done a jay spearing and looked good at one point but now seems out of sorts!

For me we need someone wide and let Marshall play at RB or come off the bench. This will add something to our attack line. And another attacker to COMPLIMENT Rhodes up front. Lawrence has had a handful of moments but is not doing it often enough for me so maybe he could play in and around Rhodes but not his partner.

But you forget one vital thing in all of this, where are we, or anyone else for that matter, going to find a goalscorer?

Look at the players we could attract, look at Boro and Sheff Weds with millions to burn, Rhodes and McCormack are top of their shopping lists and for a reason, because they can't attract anyone better, so how do we replace our striker? who are we going to attract for half that money?

Its all well and good letting Rhodes go for 10m, but you have to get unbelievably lucky to replace him, its not going to happen, could cost Lambert his job.

They are out there, just need a top scouting network to find them.

Deeney, Afobe, Vardy and Ings off top of my head were all under a million.

You could argue that Venkys blocking Rhodes sale ultimately cost Bowyer his job?

There's nothing to add .. Rhodes job is to score he has done it all his career .

There's nothing to debate there Abbey, we all agree on it. That hasn't been the discussion........ And no, I'm not starting again :)

Cricket is too good.

We need to play the game and see if he wants to come here. The lure of coming to his local club and linking up with Lambert may be strong for Pilkington. If he fancies coming here then we can play games like Middlesbrough did in the summer with Rhodes.

I doubt Lambert would lower himself to behaving like the classless Karanka and talk about other clubs players in public to try and unsettle him but could encourage Pilkington to ask for a move from Cardiff.

Besides Cardiff seemingly need to reduce their outgoings and can't offer him much more than us other than an outside chance of the play offs.

If it was that easy SD the championship would be awash with goalscorers, scouts are all over the place from every club, goalscorers are hard to come by, we need to keep Rhodes.

Grant Holt is a big no for me. Yesterday's man.

Graham I could accept as a vast improvement on Brown and Delfouneso but he's not going to score goals. He hasn't done at any of his clubs other than one season at Watford. Decent option to work with Rhodes but as a replacement it would be suicide.

just watching the highlights of the Sunderland vs Villa game and Graham holds the ball up very well for the 3rd goal.

Graham may be the ideal person to play up alongside Rhodes.

He loves Lambert. read his comments in The Mirror yesterday where he was full of praise of the impact he has had on his career.

That's what I'm think that Graham would be great foil for Rhodes in holding the ball and playing off him

Why would Cardiff sell/loan Pilkington? He's in their first team.

It looking like Cardiff are looking to reduce their wage bill. Le Fondre left in the summer and looking like Jones will aswell.

I would think Pilkington would be one of their high earner.

Grant Holt. He's nearly 35. PL needs to move on and work on those new contacts of his.

not a fan of him but wouldn't surprise if he comes in on a 5 months loan deal and we get rid of Brown

Holt , Pilkington and Graham ... Decent enough at this level and a massive improvement on the likes of Brown Delfounso and Taylor .... Not much pace though is there? (Which is what we desperately need)

that's is we need in this team. I'm wouldn't surprise if Lambert bring one in this week, a player with pace. I have suggest some names for this type of player on this forum

There's nothing to add .. Rhodes job is to score he has done it all his career . The other strikers don't and are not up to it . Get fonz , brown and koita off the wage bill bring a loanee in . Keep Rhodes .

Most managers look for a lot more in strikers than just scoring goals these days. They look at how good their hold up/link play is, work rate, pace and strength.

This is modern football and how a lot of managers want from their strikers/forwards

If those idiots sid that it would pop us straight back into the embargo and tie our hands up again. It is disgraceful that they aren't allowed to spend their money on improving us, it seems like these rules are in place to make the Premier League full of large catchment area or City clubs.

There are only two sensible ways to improve our squad in Jan - player trade or loan.

Re Cardiff selling Pilkington, don't forget they were relegated after us. They are in a similar situation of having players on decent contracts and parachute payments reducing. They need to get their house in order. I rate him and he's a Rovers fan. Has the attitude and experience we need.

Boro' and Rhodes, I still see this happening because I think it is what the player wants, his form has plummeted and the time is right.

Grant Holt - Might do a job for a year or two. Get Conway further up the pitch and crossing balls in like we know he can and any old Ox can bundle them in. We are WAY too mard up front. Short term (without Rhodes), maybe play Marshall or Lawrence off him.

It's not easy, it's about having the right setup in place.

There is another option that could happen, we keep Rhodes, we improve he eventually doesn't get in and value plummets.

Impossible to debate with some people. If you don't slate Venkys on a daily basis you're clearly a Venky Lover and if you dare to debate anything negative about Jordan Rhodes you're a Rhodes Hater.

I guess it's quite simple really.

I wonder why we've lost so many good posters on here :(
