It's just a reasonable assumption that if Rhodes was sold and the money reinvested into the team then we would be a better team. Always presumed that's what it was all about.

I love how the ex manager was given a 40 goal strike force and gets zero credit for creating 50% of it.

Goals aside, which football is not all about, do you think Rhodes is a good footballer?

Shave off what's left. Best thing I ever did to my hair style ^_^

As sad as male pattern baldness is, there's nothing worse than being in denial.

If it ever happens to me, I'll shave it all off too.

Nolan might be an absolute masterstroke you know....a real experienced leader.

Holt is finished. Fact

Pilkington would be a cracking buy.

Graham would be a good addition as cover for or as a foil for Rhodes.

Never seen the Stoke guy before.

Sam kept playing Nolan at West Ham. What West Ham fans think about him is nobody's business. Based on their experience I'd say he is also finished fact.

Play the ball into Rhodes feet and he lays it off perfectly well. I think he's a very good footballer.

Why is it a reasonable assumption that if Rhodes was sold the team would improve? GB came up with Brown, Varney and DJ Campbell prior to us going into embargo.

I think Nolan might be a good shout because he's a midfielder who scores goals - I seem to remember making a lot off him FGS back for all his clubs.

Fair enough. I think he is average to fair as a centre forward, obviously goals aside.

It's not the best idea to go on a lavish spending spree prior to an embargo, I think we were saving something in the region of 25 million at the time.

GB never spent any cash on strikers bar Rudy - I think it's a fair thing to say 5/6m invested across the squad may improve us in the long run, even if that means selling Rhodes.

It's also a fair assumption to say we will sell him and not spend the cash wisely enough to get the best available - I'm sure we all agree that the best thing is to invest around and with him.

I think he is another bad footballer. Had a knack of getting a goal, but his midfield play was poor. Never forget Dunny destroying him in the middle of the park at the Reebok.

The Rhodes' conundrum !

At the moment, IMV, he looks very much less than average. I don't think Lambert sees him as a player to build his team around - forget the rhetoric, think that's all about maximising Rhodes' value. Can't see M'boro doing any deal approaching £14m - maybe they see him as a £!0m insurance policy to underwrite auto promo. If they don't sign Rhodes now and they do go up, I'll be staggered if they come back for him as a PL club.

No doubt some posters will think £10m is far too low and V's wouldn't accept that offer. Well if they don't, and Rovers and Rhodes don't improve, IMV, they will see nothing like £10m in summer if they want rid of Rhodes then. Don't forget, this is the last season of parachute payments and that's £8m or so off next season's income at a stroke.

I think Rhodes will go this window for about £10m plus some extras if we are lucky. I expect half of that to be handed to Lambert with the other half helping to offset lost parachute payments.

Lambert has a two and half year contract and after his first 2 months in charge, I see it as shyte sieving for the remainder of this season, a tilt at the top six next season and, hopefully, promotion in 2016/17. All is subject to the V's ongoing benevolence as my estimate is that they are going to have to find an additional £60m over the next two and a half years if they want to keep Rovers alive and kicking and in the game.

The bottom line is that Lambert has a huge, huge job on his plate - far bigger than perhaps both he and the fans expected as I think the current crop are even worse than Kidd's infamous rubber dinghy men and we certainly have no young Dunns, Duffys or Jansens to sparkle.

Am I right in thinking that Gestede is the only striker Bowyer bought who has scored a league goal for the club? I can't remember a goal from Brown, Koita, Varney, Campbell.

If true, that's horrific.

Twitter is something I've never got into but I'm going to give it another chance. Can anyone recommend a few accounts to follow? No dreamers though.

@isgakbrfc

And there we have it. Game set and match.

Impossible to debate with and it always comes down to who's the better fan lol. It's laughable really.

Enjoyed my trip to Cardiff yesterday and would suggest someone like Graham alongside Rhodes could work. I personally wouldn't go for Pilkington on yesterday's showing, I personally think we need more pace.

We looked very slow yesterday, no pace anywhere in the team and we looked very easy to play against.

I saw him once for Stoke earlier this season. The lad certainly has pace but may lack football brain.

Aaron Lennon?

  • Moderation Lead

Guess you didn't see Aaron Lennon's goal today Iceman?

Anyway, as for the potential incomings above- Pilkington would be absolutely fine, the other two, absolutely not.

I think Nolan would be too far away with regards to fitness, based on recent performances we literally need players who would be able to come into the club and play the following weekend.

With us only being only able to shop in the loan and free market we may really struggle to get the standard of player we are crying out for. Rather than looking for young up and coming youth players we need to be looking at players who are playing for their next move in the summer, I think that's what would do best by us.
