I recall reading that previously and feeling disgusted that somehow our club had stooped so low that a supporter advised the club to spend £8m on a player.

It is almost unbelievable.

Madam D: "And who pointed this £8m, 45 grand a week player out to you Shebby?"

Shebby: "Do you know that fella in the yellow and black, him slating you and calling for you to leave?"

Madam D: "Yes, I am aware of his work"

Shebby: "Well...him."

Madam D: "Pass me my cheque book."

I never knew that as fact - fair play to Glen but it is an absolutely ridiculous situation.

So we've only just come out of the embargo after 2 years cost cutting, but now we aren't able to spend anything as we will go straight back into the embargo.

Meanwhile Middlesbrough spent £10 million last summer and are reportedly preparing a £12 million bid for Rhodes. Not to mention significant spending from mid table clubs like Leeds, Wolves, Wednesday and QPR in the last window.

Can someone explain how that one works again?

It's beyond belief. Not raking up the past but truly is one of the sorriest episodes of this whole thing.

I know he won't be bothered, it's been discussed before. The person who advised SS to buy Rhodes post Bests injury was Glen Mullan. There was no scouting infrastructure and Singh didn't even know who Rhodes was if I remember correctly.

Oh i knew that lol.....should get glen as scout

One of four things here:-

1. Those clubs will breach FFP and go under an embargo

2. Or they have found a way around FFP legally.

3. We are down playing our situation to not get ripped off.

4. Our beloved owners are once again using something as an excuse not to spend.

Regardless as to look at what other clubs and spending and the restrictions of FFP, we should just focus on ourselves. Deals are there to be made and good opportunities are available. We need to offload a few people, and bring in a little bit more quality into the team. Lambert is correct in my view in saying we won't be over spending in January. I understand that completely January the prices are over inflated and why sign a player for cash half way through the season and get them to hit the floor running is a tough ask. I prefer to save our money have an average season and spend in the summer, and re-structure the squad and style of play, and give next season a good push.

I would be delighted to see us sign Kevin Nolan. We need a bit of experience in midfield, and people like to constantly remind us that he was only good under Big Sam, but we have to remember Big Sam was sacked pretty quickly at NUFC and after Nolan arrived. Nolan went on to have a good few seasons up there. I would be happy to see us try to snap up Morgan Amalfitano as well if there is a chance of that with Danny Graham on loan, and Pilkington (if we can). Would even be happy to see us make a move for Josh Windass, and Dean Cox.

We need to try and offload though the likes of Williamson, Eastwood, Chris Brown, Delfounenso, Chris Taylor, Loan out Petschi. It doesn't matter if we don't get much from these players being sold at least we can get a few off the wage bill. With Jason Lowe slowly getting fit again, and with Lennihan also there, Evans, Guthrie, Akpan, we will have a list of CM we can choose from ad I would be pretty happy with the balance we have there. Even to see Lowe return as RB for us instead of Henley

Got to be Josh King since 13-14 hasn't it? Albeit probably only 5 goals or so.

He was bought as a winger but yes, I think he has scored about 3 league goals since 2013.

I'm thinking out and out centre forward though.

Crazy how much villa fans hate gestede....i always said he wouldn't cut it in the premiership...GB CHANGEd tactics to suit his play more than Rhodes

What you see with him is what you get, a limited footballer but very good at what he does well. As a fan his nonchalant appearance on the pitch would drive you mad when you are staring down the barrel of a relegation and losing £10's millions but we've all seen it that is just his demeanour. He did fantastic for us.

Josh King

No sorry. I reckon he scored one or two more but he was bought as a winger.

I can't believe people have forgotten this man, he only left last season. He was a fan favourite and always went out of his way to acknowledge the fans on twitter, instagram etc.

Noticed on the ever so reliable Twitter that there is a rumour that Simeon Jackson (formerly of Norwich during Lamberts time there) is training with Rovers having just left Barnsley after a short term contract expired.

Again, don't know how reliable this is having just noticed it get discussed on Twitter without any real credibility as of yet, but thought it worth mentioning.

Nuno Gomes

Thought he looked ok in odd spells at Rovers but suffered from the usual we'll sign em but don't want to play em and pay em scenario of the time. No good to partner Rhodes though but could have been used better. Class performance away at Leeds.

Re: being unable to spend, I think we have something like a million or so available if absolutely needed. Just my hunch.

But with the change in FFP rules and a fair number of players out of contract this summer (6 or 7, is it?), it will free up a LOT of money compared to what we have now.

At a rough guess, we'd probably be allowed to net spend around £5m per season before thinking about any embargo? Then again maybe I'm forgetting about turnover reduction too :/

God help us if true.
