God help us if true.

I imagine it would be just him training with us (assuming that is the case), doubt very much we'd sign someone not deemed good enough for Barnsley!!

I notice a few people keep mentioning Josh Windass. Sorry folks, if that's the level we are looking at we may as well give up the ghost. Absolutely nowhere near the quality a club like Blackburn Rovers should be looking at.

Have any of you actually seen the lad play?

People are getting a bit too excited because he was getting rave reviews a little while back, but I think that's massively jumping the gun. He's decent, and young but you're absolutely right in that we need to be aiming higher than that. (Not to say there aren't some quality players in the lower leagues of course).

First glimpses of Paul Lamberts Team

1. He is keeping Tom Lawrence by extending his loan till the end of the season - I am curious how is he going to fit in the squad? First team or backup ? Where is he gonna play him? On the right wing or a number 9? Can someone comment on Tom Lawrence as a player and how he would fit in the squad?

2. Doneil Henry is going back to west ham - PL thinks we have enough First teamers and backups in the squad for CB that we no longer need his services and he is no better than Henley or Marshall at RB.

Personally I have no problem with either of these decisions, if it means he is going to focus resources on other areas such as creative central midfielders and fast strong forward players

No.

Since 2013 this striker scored twice as many league goals in only 1/7 of the 90+ games played by DJ Campbell, Chris Brown, Luke Varney, Fode Koita and Nathan Delfouneso.

Gomes scored 4 and signed in the same summer as Best.

Edit: Ok, looks like you mean from the following season

I expect there was already an agreement in place to re-loan Henry before Bowyer was sacked. I doubt PL had much, if anything, to do with him coming back. No surprise that we're not extending his stay.

No sorry. I reckon he scored one or two more but he was bought as a winger.

I can't believe people have forgotten this man, he only left last season. He was a fan favourite and always went out of his way to acknowledge the fans on twitter, instagram etc.

Disappointing comments from Lambert in many ways, imo we need at least one creative midfielder who can play the ball up and in to the strikers far more than we need a lump up front to hold the ball up. We also need at least one other forward player who knows where the back of the net is but it doesn't matter for me whether they're 6 foot 6 or 5 foot six if they can get on the score sheet regularly.

At least though Lambert's recent comments appear to revolve around finding support for Rhodes as opposed to sacrificing him and it is also noticeable that he only ever seems to mention Rhodes and Koita in interview which would tend to indicate neither Brown nor Delfouneso figure in his plans so that is something at least.

I didn't really read his comments as "we need a lump up top". More that we need someone who is willing to be more physical, chase until they drop and generally be a pain in the arse. This'll go down great, but the type of player we had in Varney. Not to mention him as a suggestion because I'm sure there are similar players who can produce more goals. But I'd bet if he was still on the books then Lambert would be giving him game time in that role.

He's only saying what a few of us have been saying. We actually need both types up front - the strong grafters who get hold of the ball and use it well, and the footballers with the pace and technique. At the moment we have neither.

"Play the ball into Rhodes feet and he lays it off perfectly well. I think he's a very good footballer"

Amazing how polar opposite opinions can be. IMO Rhodes is arguably the worst footballer in the Championship (bar none) but oppositely the best natural finisher (bar none)

He's no pace, no strength, an embarrassing first touch for a professional even in league 1. I genuinely think he has to concentrate like hell to complete a 5-10yrd pass BUT if I had to put my mortgage on how many times a player would score in 10 chances, aside from Lewandowski, I'd prob choose Rhodes.

Any more transfer news from 11!o'clockers?!

Can't disagree with any of that Mani.

Well if you're actually being serious as opposed to making a silly "I don't like him because he runs like a girl" type response I don't understand your point. Laying the ball off accurately is more than some players can manage, laying the ball off adequately and contributing 20 goals a season makes you a very handy player indeed Imo.

Any professional footballer, playing in any position on the park should be able to lay the ball off - if it's played to their feet Rev.

Out of my own curiosity, here's our forwards' tallies since the 2012-13 season. (Starts listed, then sub appearances in brackets for context). I've also included cup games. Sorted by goals per start (which is way too kind to Goodwillie given his one goal was in the League Cup too! But anyway, for additional context...). Didn't bother to find minutes for goals per minute... Also may be harsh on players like King and Lawrence given not all their appearances have been at centre forward, but anyway...

Gestede: 35 in 55(17), 0.64 per start, 0.49 per appearance

Rhodes: 83 in 153(10), 0.54 per start, 0.51 per appearance

Gomes: 4 in 8(12), 0.50 per start, 0.20 per appearance

Goodwillie: 1 in 2(8), 0.50 per start, 0.10 per appearance

Delfouneso: 2 in 8(8), 0.25 per start, 0.13 per appearance

Kazim-Richards: 5 in 25(6), 0.20 per start, 0.16 per appearance

King: 8 in 42(31), 0.19 per start, 0.11 per appearance

Best: 2 in 11(5), 0.18 per start, 0.13 per appearance

Lawrence: 1 in 14(5), 0.07 per start, 0.05 per appearance

Koita: 0 in 8(7)

Campbell: 0 in 8(9)

Varney: 0 in 4(22)

Brown: 0 in 13(12)

It might be the wrong question though. Rhodes and Gestede have been dominating the number of appearances (as they should have), and while it's concerning we've failed to find a proper forward backup with Gestede gone, I think it's the lack of goals from midfield that have really hurt us. Either that, or wingers like Marshall and Conway need to step it up (as has been said many times).

Even with 41 league goals from Rhodes and Gestede last year, we were actually only 10th in goals (and 10th in least goals against), with 66 total. Middlesborough was the only top-6 team with less than 70. We got 70 goals the year before, with 38 from Rhodes and Gestede, when Cairney, Conway, and Dunn managed to add 13. Preventing goals seemed like a better predictor of top-6 status in 2013/14 compared to 2014/15 as I look at those tables now... but I'm getting distracted.

Serge Gnabry has returned to Arsenal, he might do a job for us. The same goes for the WBA players McManaman and Gamboa. Gamboa played RB for Rosenborg some seasons ago, I remember him as a good player. He has pace as well.

I went to that Unicef match a month or so ago and Dwight Yorke was twice the player we currently have. I'm not suggesting getting him out of retirement but his skill and composure was still there - if I'm honest I'm waiting a for a pizza to cook.
