Sorry mate, I honestly wasn't angling for the question. I'm not sure. But I have said all along that I thought there'd be money to spend and that we wouldn't be limited to loans.

Sorry to disappoint

Haha I'm certainly not a Cryer lover but come on. He did a good job. He actually had the inside track...also, I don't think he was wrapped around their fingers when he wrote the 'Time to go' article..?

Haha fair enough pal. Life would be dull without differing opinions hey?

Well our first piece of business is a permanent signing so hopefully the 'two loans' quote was a red herring.

Player signings must have been discussed prior to Lambert joining. Hard to imagine he would join without reassurance in that area. We are more likely to be associated with FFP just now than billionaire owners. Lets not remind anyone we are minted ;)

I think I read somewhere that either Bowyer or one of his team supposedly said 'they would have tore up this league with the budget Lambert has been given'.

Step by step.

Not want to divert the thread but Cryer was about 6 months too late with that article and I'm being kind at that. How you can say he did a good job I have no idea, he was absolutely useless. If that's the standard of journalism these days you can keep it.

But it's history now, so back to transfers.

They've never refused to sign a cheque. Money is not a problem. Never has been!

Reports in multiple newspapers this morning that Birmingham are looking to sign Bolton's Zac Clough for £750,000.

He is one of the most promising young players in the championship and at that price we should go in for him, if handled properly and if he can get over his injury issues he the potential to be developed into a fantastic player.

Thought we should be all over that deal if it was at all possible a while back, hope he's on our radar!

His injuries would bother me and do we really need to take a gamble at that kind of money?

Sounds a very fair price for the lad - just based on his performance against us.

At the Q&A a while ago (when Bowyer was still here) Shelfy stated that post embargo it should be possible to spend fees of up to "£2 million" for the 'right' profile player. e.g young with potential to progress and profit on. Clough ticks all those boxes and at £750k seems an absolute steal when you consider what we think Marshall is worth.

Clough is a no brainier at that price. The kid has a lot of energy about him and seems very direct, isn't afraid to run at defenders.

As Chaddy mentions earlier, a creative midfielder with a bit of drive would be great. Someone mentioned Charlie Adam earlier....that would be quite a coup.

I'd be surprised if they let him go for 750k, but if they do we should definitely get in there and try and get him.

They have to raise £2 million by the end of next week so it looks like Birmingham are trying to get him on the cheap.

I would imagine that Bolton will insist on a large sell on clause given that he is going so cheaply. For me it represents excellent value and a potential investment.

maybe Leicester want to see who they sign this transfer window before extending it till end of the season.

Plus making sure he is playing regular football here aswell

I think you are spot on about Lambert's signings at Norwich.

when Norwich got promoted to the Premier League, he went and signed Bennett, Pilkington and Steve Morrison and they finished mid table.

I fully expecting that Boro will be back in for Rhodes shortly. probably after we sign Graham. I wonder if Boro will offer 8 or 9 million plus a player or 2. would Lambert accept it? and more important would the owners?

if Rhodes does leave, Then I would look at signing Bradshaw from Walsall. has pace and scored goals at League 1 level and I feel that he can at this level. only 21 years old aswell. Plus Lambert has looked at the lower leagues to sign players for his teams.

here is a video of him scoring goals during this season

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0K2PHmPg9LM&feature=youtu.be

Bennett is a decent signing and he can play either right wing or right back.

Graham is a target man which we don't have.

I think(hoping) Brown will be gone and possibly Delfouneso. I think Lambert will look to develop Koita and give him to end of the season to prove himself

Get rid of Kiota as he's rubbish and will never be good enough. A poor poor signing whoever advised on this guy should never be around the club again.

How many forwards do derby want? They now have Martin, Bent, Russell, Weimann, Camara and Blackman who have both signed in the last couple of days and arguably Tom Ince could be classed as a forward. If they don't go up this season with the squad they've got it would be ridiculous, Weimann has apparently been struggling there since his summer move, maybe lambert might be tempted to get a loan bid in for him, I wouldn't be too keen on that though I don't rate him Weimann.

Not only that but this signing was done without the usual redtop hacks getting a whiff.

Almost reminiscent of a previous era.

The outlook is getting better.

Has Johnny Russell been getting much game time for them this season? Always thought a lot of him and could be a good little player for Rovers.

Doesn't seem that way though. How come they have been here 5 bloody years and the squad has got weaker and weaker every year?

Because Venkys were always happy to shell out but nobody asked them?

Totally agree. Venkys have turned the money on and off. Kean didnt get significant investment till we were relegated* (not that I would have trusted him with it) - and then he totally wasted the money. His successors have all had modest budgets to work with.

Venkys have put in a lot of money, but its all been used keeping the club afloat rather than investment in new players.

Not sure what Mani is saying. If we go out and start signing big money players it will be a major departure.

*Actually thinking back we did spend a bit on Formica, Goodwillie, Petrovic, Dann, Blackman and Rochina - though not huge by prem standards - and most of it was wasted on agents fees.
