Shane Duffy targeted by wolves according to fl92 transfers on twitter

I'd be surprised if Lambert was prepared to even contemplate losing Duffy. He and Hanley have been the most consistent performers since he came in.

Wolves are in no stronger position than we are. Realistically they won't get the play offs and their owner wants to sell up.

Potchettino will give him a chance when he returns to fitness, i think this has been mentioned in the press. He has a good record of bringing through English talent so very much doubt he'll let him go out on loan... No harm in asking though.

I agree , but there's also quite a bit of talent in front of him too

I'd not sell Duffy, he's forging a very good partnership with Hanley, is only 24, and can only get better with the right coaching.

This isn't the opinion of some very high ranking personnel in football circles GAV. The insignificant fans don't have an educated and considered opinion and his seemingly obvious improvements have not been spotted by more cultured and qualified football powers. I'd like to name names but I'm afraid I must protect my source. Really I can't. I've said too much already. Well if you're really gonna press me on this I'll give you an anagram. You'll never guess it so my man will remain anonymous and bitter. The guys name is LAJ. That's it. I'm saying nothing more!

I'd sell Duffy, very poor wastes all our set pieces, get wheater in from Bolton class against us and a leader at the back

He'll learn. He's got all the raw attributes. A decent coach will teach him and convince him that he holds all the aces in those situations. His big problem is he doesn't commit to the header fully. When he does he'll be a right handfull.

Duffy is OK when the ball is in the air (defensively), but, shall we say crude or agricultural when it's on the ground. I don't rate the guy to be frank :). No composure whatsoever.

Yours, Frank.

  • Backroom

Should be doing better had about 6years as a professional footballer and still can't put a single header on target

Nor did Nelsen for about 2 years and it wasn't til around 2009 he actually scored one!

I'd say Duffy is good enough for this division, though I do wish we'd stop aiming for him at set pieces as we may as well just kick the ball out of play.

Admittedly if we want to get promoted we need less "good enough" and more "good", but I'd say we have more problems at the top of the pitch than the bottom at present.

Absolutely

They slashed the wages, sacked the backroom staff, put players like Salgado etc out to pasture and got rid of any quality we had in the squad.

Let's not dress it up any other way, but we've moved on 47er, haven't we?

Hopefully!

And IIRC that one was offside!

The other lads should fine him £100 each time he heads over or wide, money goes to charity.

This is the issue. We ALWAYS aim for him. I don't expect 10 goals a season from a defender normally but it is the minimum that should happen if 400 set pieces a season are aimed at you within 10 yards of the goal.

It's a strange one. Duffy is tall and leaps well so wins a lot of headers but he totally lacks direction control and does not get the extreme force/strength into the header that he should - if that makes sense. If he did then the few he gets on taget would give the keepers more of a problem.

He should by now know this and also to try and head the ball down (when attacking) as it will naturally try to go up and even if he heads the ball into the ground with force it will cause the oppo defence issues

Also he needs a bit of luck - maybe one day a total fu header will sneak it to get him up and going.

The important issue is be on target!

It's the lack of belief/intent with the headers. Amoruso was an appalling defender but he ran at the ball like a raging bull when a corner was whipped in.

He should look at videos of Amoruso & Moran to name just 2 good examples

That ball was going in no matter what!!

We made Wheater look good imo by hoofing the ball up to him at every opportunity. I rate Duffy and Hanley as it is but imagine how much better they'd look if all they had to do was head the ball away for 90 mins with only Rhodes (who I like, but he doesn't really relish flicking the ball on and all that), Delfouneso and Lawrence to contend with aerially!

Danny Shittu type scenario!
