The January window is a seller's market. No point paying over the odds on players when we've only just come out of the embargo.

One suspects we're keeping our powder dry for the summer.

But again, I got attacked(not by you), saying we have to make signings NOW because the squad needs improving. We all know it needs to be strengthened, but is this the right time?

If Lambert still genuinely feels we have a shot at the playoffs, then fine I can understand bringing in a few. But people are still expecting quality signings at this stage, when we might as well hold on until the summer and start fresh.

I would be delighted if we made the playoffs, but unless these few signings makes a huge contribution I fail to see how.

Lambert should be allowed to rebuild this squad from top to bottom, even if that means letting alot of this crap leave. Who would want them though?

All interest in Rhodes ended when teams were quoted £12m

To be honest, the price for Rhodes was a fair one. We paid what 8mill for him, and he was scoring goals. Ross McCormack went for a big fee, so that amount I would say was a fair one. We played it right at the time.

Let's hope Lambo can use his German contacts in the summer as Karanka has done for Boro with the Spanish contingent.

I'd be delighted if we got a few tough tackling German players in at the back.

Aparently we are linked with a loan move for Aiden McGeady. Don't know how much truth in that but could be a positive move. he is out of contract in the summer as well if i am not mistaken!

The Sun:

"Meanwhile, Leeds are one of three Championship clubs who want to take Toffees winger Aiden McGeady, 29, on loan. Blackburn and Sheffield Wednesday are the other teams in for the Republic of Ireland international."

Also with Cardiff slammed with an embargo. Will be interesting to see if Lambert takes a look at Pilkington again.

Not sure this embargo is finances motivated though so they might not need to sell.

the problem is that we are currently so bad that without some new players in we could end up in a relegation fight. I'm not an advocate of big spending now, but we do need bodies in who can work hard, lift others, make us harder to beat and more likely to score, players who can give the crowd a bit of something to cheer about and make them feel that there's some hope for the future. We need to spend something just to get us through in better shape till the summer.

Like I said Mrs G, I agree we need a few players in. But the players we have here already, are being paid to do a job.

I hate football contracts, and I wish they had in them the option to terminate a contract, if said player is not performing without any payoff.

I think Lambert is preparing the ground for Rhodes departure. We are weak in other areas of the team but potentially bought two strikers.

Do you actually think we'd not be weak up front as well if Rhodes was sold and Graham came in? Strewth.

I sincerely hope Graham (if he comes in) and Jackson are being signed purely as back up to Rhodes as to date Brown Kofta and Delfouneso have not demonstrated they're up to the task of sharing the goalscoring burden.

If we got rid of Rhodes he would need replacing with someone else who is capable of being prolific. Or we're definitely in a relegation struggle.

We will never be able to replace him in January, and it won't be like for like. If we get in Graham, then surely a front line of Rhodes, Jackson and Graham is alot better than Brown, Delfy and Koita

Great post. I know how your feeling having supported the Owls since the mid 80s. My whole family are rovers fans and I got dragged to ewood in the 90s with my dad and brothers, but I was always an Owl. It was great seeing the football at ewood then. I was always in the away end when we played with my worst day being the 7-2 battering. Going to school in haslingden wasn't fun then.

Has Simeon Jackson signed? He isn't a bad player, but more of a squad filler and league one striker. Lambert might get the best out of him again.

..and it is signings of this quality that make you think our owners won't be spending much!

Exactly, getting rid of him now without a replacement would be suicidal.

That's only really two players out of our squad from last two years really. Three with Rudy.

We have had more players come out of league one into the champ than get promoted out. No surprise we are bottom half really.

I have had it confirmed from another journo I bump into. He said Nixon was as close to Lambert as you can get.

Chaddy planted it on here.

read the above Jal before you start saying things like that first!

Because Chaddy thinks that a few grand a week is nothing !

didn't say that but he is a risk free signing.
