rog of the rovers Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Team for u21 Premier League Cup vs. Leicester this afternoon. ROVERS: Fisher, Nyambe, Askew, Petshi, Lavelle ©, Wharton, Mahoney, Rankin-Costello, Forrester, Jackson, Thomson SUBS: Crump (gk), Tanner, Carson, Green, Mansell Probably safe to say none of these will be involved tonight. Hardcastle is cup tied after playing for Salford City.
JamieUK Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Just comparing that side to the U21s who played last week - Tomlinson & Rittenberg started last time but aren't in the squad - potential for them to be involved with the first team tonight...
G Somerset Rover Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 No chance Rittenberg will be, but Tomlinson perhaps? Let's see tonight who has the fight to stay at this club.
tomphil Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Saturday we had 'Hayeday' in the boxing, tonight we have 'Brownynight' at Newport. Chance for big Chris & co to shine against opponents more suited to their level. Newport 0 Rovers 2 Hanley, Brown
Hasta Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I'd never let Kilgallon pull on the blue and white halves again after his 'efforts" on Saturday frankly. Get rid this window and get someone younger hungrier and cheaper in. Rhodes badly needs a couple of goals to restore his confidence imo. Theoretically he wont get a better chance. I'd either continue with him and Brown up front or pair him with Jackson and attempt to play the ball to feet more. Generally I'd play the very strongest team possible. We need to build a bit of momentum again from somewhere. Conversely if there is a disaster, they should be the ones to take the fall. It was Kilgallons first 90 minutes in the league in about 10 months and first appearance for months since injury. He was a mess for the goal but didn't think the was that bad. Considering he was touted as our best CH by some last year (he wasn't , that was Baptiste) , we have no experience to play alongside Hanley and we may be in a similar situation for forthcoming league games (in our relegation battle, not dead rubbers), I would personally play him. I'd also play Rhodes but I think Lambert will use it as an opportunity to look at what happens without him.
Mercer Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 A huge, huge match. IMV, we have to win tonight for the future of our club - it's that simple. The consequences of a loss tonight and a loss on Saturday at Charlton are unthinkable. I'm going for a Rovers' win by 3 or 4 goals to 1 with Newport finding Brown and Rhodes to be unplayable.
FGS5635 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I think PL has to be brave and try a different formation. Dont think 441 or 442 is getting the best out the players we have at the minute. We need to find ways of playing higher up the pitch and getting players closer to the forwards. We cant keep picking the same team and formation thats constantly failing and suddenly expect a miracle

Mercer we could not score 3/4 against a bunch of school kids. Why do you always have to tempt fate?
Mercer Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Mercer we could not score 3/4 against a bunch of school kids. Why do you always have to tempt fate? Look, it's what I believe will happen. Got Rovers' win at 5/6 and 4-1 at 40/1.
G Somerset Rover Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I hope you're right, but IMO we couldn't score a couple against the Dog & Duck right now.
chor808 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Look, it's what I believe will happen. Got Rovers' win at 5/6 and 4-1 at 40/1. Newport sit 20th in League two, have just lost their manager to Oldham and are on what looks like a bad run. I hope you are right but whatever there are no excuses tonight we need to step up and win.
Backroom Tom Posted January 18, 2016 Backroom Posted January 18, 2016 Surprised Simeon Jackson won't be playing as he just played for the reserves

Backroom Madon Posted January 18, 2016 Backroom Posted January 18, 2016 Jackson isn't eligible as he wasn't signed before the original date. Jackson isn't eligible as he wasn't signed before the original date.

Have Marshall and Conway pushed further up alongside Rhodes and have Lenihan, Evans and Akpan in the middle. Bennett played a lot at right back for Bristol City - wondering whether its worth him slotting in there to see how he gets on as having a more creative player like Marshall at RB isn't ideal. GK Steele LB Olsson CB Hanley CB Kilgallon RB Bennett CM Evans CM Akpan CM Lenihan RF Marshall LF Conway CF Rhodes
Mike Graham Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 M5 blocked solid. Not moved for 20 mins. 😡
sambo Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Wouldn't mind Brown playing, as he will certainly provide the fight needed. Plus, a goal will do him the world of good. However, I doubt he can start after playing the full 90 on Saturday.
Mike Graham Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 All lanes on M5 closed due to Lordy hiring a bridge. You could not make it up 😞 Lorry hiting a bridge
AlanK Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 where abouts are you? If you are as far as Worcester follow the diversion off the motorway but take the A449 to Ledbury then on to Ross on Wye. From there head south on the dual carriageway ( starts off as a40 ) which goes all the way to the M4
