A cup of beans Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Feel very sorry for all those who made the trip. Pretty late to call it off too

Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Long way to travel for a pint If it was " Brains " I wouldn't cross the road for a pint of that. Commiserations to the faithful who travelled down.
Hasta Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Looking at the photos we saw on Twitter when Paul Wheelock arrived at the ground ,not sure how the ref can say the pitch is playable at 1.20pm but not at 2pm.
jodrell Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Looks like the right decision on the day but it's not great for Rovers in terms of squeezing fixtures in. Seem to remember concerns about this possibility a couple of weeks ago. This bloody rain is a nuisance at the moment. Could Newport have done more? Did they have, or could they have used, covers during the week? Feel so sorry for those fans who have travelled. Hope they can still make something of it before heading back. Wonder if this will be a midweek fixture - making travel very difficult - or if it will take place on the same weekend as the next round of Cup fixtures. They said on radio Lancs that it was ok/playable up to 1 pm then the rain came down very heavy. So i would say it is harsh to blame Newport.
AggyBlue Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 At least some of the players came over to thank the fans for travelling down
philipl Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 This should help our chances if Lambert has bought a new team by Wednesday week....
West Yorks Rover Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 This could turn into one of those nightmare fixtures, I've never known a winter quite like this, hardly any cold temperatures so we get more and more rain, wouldn't be surprised if the next game is called off too. Isn't there a rugby match scheduled for tomorrow ? that won't help either.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Sick of this pissin weather If it makes you feel any better it rained in Southern Spain this morning. Sun's out now though. Listening to the long term forecast for the UK snow and ice is on the way for next week at some point. This game could take a while to get played. Anybody know what team was selected ?
roverandout Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 It rained in benidorm the last time I was there....for two minutes!!
tomphil Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 People were tweeting pics of the pitch yesterday and this morning saying stuff along the lines of it should be ok IF we don't get more heavy rain. The chances of that were ? An educated decision could have been made at 10am, I know the weather can't be controlled but do all weathermen just ad lib or what. Surely they have a rough idea what's to come in the local area it's not as if it was blue skies and nice breeze down there this morning.
Iceman Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Sick of this pissin weatherShould have brought this game to Cape Town. 40 degree celcius heat. But pretty sorry for those who travelled all that way
Commondore Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Was the intended starting line-up presented somewhere before the postponement?
grizfoot Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Makes the comments midweek about the game not being in any danger all the more baffling, surely there was always going to be a good chance given their home game was called off only last week and heavy rain was forecasted for today.
AllRoverAsia Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Within the past couple of days I read somewhere and think it was on this MB that heavy rain was forcast for Newport today around ko time. It looks like it arrived an hour or so early. An old ground by a river with maybe a poor drainage system that's waterlogged already - not really guesswork what would happen. Anyway I'm going to watch Eastleigh v Bolton on TV.
oldjamfan1 Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Did Mercerman predict the game would be 100% definitely on?
Stuart Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 They said on radio Lancs that it was ok/playable up to 1 pm then the rain came down very heavy. So i would say it is harsh to blame Newport. It was a simple question Jodrell. No blame mentioned.
jim mk2 Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Commiserations to all those who made the trip but they can always sample the delights of Newport as compensation. County clearly at fault here for not erecting a vast roof over the pitch.
AllRoverAsia Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Newport's manager is criticising the club for not making more effort during the week to protect the pitch Mark Jones, head of operations at Rodney Parade: "Ground staff are extremely disappointed with his comments, very very unprofessional."
Stuart Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 County clearly at fault here for not erecting a vast roof over the pitch. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newport-county-boss-slams-ground-10709594
AlanK Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Just got back to Cheltenham. I can confirm it was pouring down in Newport. No chance the game could go ahead. Thanks to the Newport fans for the good hospitality in the Riverside
West Yorks Rover Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Wasn't John Sheridan rumoured to be off to Notts County ? He will be now !
