Remember a game vs Leicester we won 4-3 or 5-4 in the late 80's early 90's when we where losing with just a couple of minutes left. Cracking game!

Being 4-1 up against United at Ewood was another moment to appreciate.

I still vividly remember going to the club shop when it was in the terrace house and getting my first kit, the lovely Spall number, proper kit that. Sadly don't have that one but pretty sure I still have the Ellgren shirt with the ICI sponsor somewhere, would fit my lad.

Before that game Rio Ferdinand was being bigged up as a world class midfielder (after covering there for a few games). He had an absolute mare.

I'm sure I read that it had been saved and kept following the demolition.

Is that true and if so, where is it?

It forms part of the Jack Walker memorial ☺

Is that the actual one? I always thought that was a replica of it.

Jeez, you learn something every day!

Jack left us a great legacy and we are lucky to have such a good ground. When its full ( I know, I know ) and in full voice, there's no better place.

But part of me will always miss our ramshackle old ground. Walking under the Rovers FC arch, 'Proper' floodlights, The Blackburn End in full voice, standing on 'your spot', standing with your mates. Ending up 20ft away from 'your' spot when we scored. Wooden Seats in The Nuttall St Stand for a treat. The Club 'Shop' that could only fit 5 people in it.

Ah, jumpers for goalposts....

As quite a young kid when I was on my way to visit Blackburn to stay with my Gran in Hope St and watch Rovers games (First Team or Reserves away it didnt matter) I always got a thrill when I could see the Ewood floodlights from the train window. I knew I was getting to my spiritual home.

Wasn't there a game (?Year) where we beat WHAM 5-4 with us scoring at the end to nick it?

I certainly have a memory of it. Could be the Mandela Effect!

Edit. Just checked, Yes Nov 1989

West Ham game we were 5-1 up just after HT and it ended 5-4, never did anything easy Rovers.

Palace we won 5-4 after being 3-1 down with about 20 to go. Thing I do remember from then ( well I have some old VHS tapes of these games) is when we were behind the crowd roared at the team to get back into it. Unlike the all seater sit on your hands sulking then fire off downstairs or home.

The crowd had a backbone just like the team !

Its maybe the Palace game Im thinking of then, though do remember the high scoring WHAM game.

Your right about the crowd, we could be the twelfth man then. These days the crowd can forget its interactive at times.

When my Dad took me to games I always remember the smell. A mixture of alcohol, cigars, and mints. And everyone seemed to wear sheep skin over coats!

Some great posts in this thread. Loved the picture of the old Blackburn End.

Remember being stood right of centre for an Oldham game. This was unusual as we always stood left of centre, but got there late.

At half - time a number of serious looking guys trooped past one after another. They stopped about 20 foot away and started singing 'The Oldham, The Oldham'.

The back of the BE surged forward and those lads got pasted down to the exit. They then got escorted round the pitch battered and bruised to the away end. A somewhat pointless exercise, but nothing unusual for that time.

Loved the bring out the Rovers, we are the champions song. With variations. Used to start 10 minutes from kick off ending of course with we hate Burnley.

Our crowd was much noisier back then. But so was everyone else.

Yeah probably the Palace one, Hendry surged from back to front playing a couple of one two's and smashed in a last min winner, mayhem. Considering the crowds were only usually 6/7k it could make a right racket when in the mood, so could about 50 away fans in the echoing cavernous Darwen end as well though :rover:

I remember my grandad telling me about a Rovers v Burnley cup tie at Ewood.

My grandad supported Burnley (my dad supported the Rovers, thank goodness) he said Burnley went 3 nil up and cruising, but Rovers levelled it with 3 late goals.

He told the story of a rovers fan lifting my gran in the air when we equalised! :)

Different days. Would love to see footage of that game.

That was the day Chrissy Price defended like a Kean and attacked like a genius. Didn't Wright and Bright play up front for Palace and wasn't that the same season they broke our hearts in the play off final?

Me and my mates played football here the day the painter man came and did the prices on the wall....Iwas there the day that sign went up....lived down the road.

I always remember in the summer the old painter man in his white coat would come and change the prices on the wall at the turnstile....happy days

I suppose how happy depended on what he changed the price to? :rover:

I think i remember those prices. Used to take my Mum (rip), and it was 6 quid the pair of us. At a guess I'd say about 27 years ago in 88 or 89?

For the life of me I can't remember his surname - but he was called Jack. He also painted all the signs dotted round the edge of the pitch. He was extremely good. I remember he once said, probably about 1989, "that Wilcox won't be any good so long as he has a hole in his arse" - with much certainty as well.

Good painter, bad pundit. Typical of Rovers fans at that time with a Mother Bee in their bonnet about Wilcox. Kenny suprised a few keeping him on back then.

Good judge of a player then.
