1arC Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 For matches at Ewood, the best I can remember was the third division championship season in 1974/75. We were second in the league and Plymouth were top. Loads of Plymouth fans arrived very early in the morning on a train and rampaged around the town centre, wrecking the place. We went two down very early on we then missed a penalty. We then pulled one back on the stroke of half time. In the second half we were absolutely awesome, scoring 4 and went on to win the game 5-2. I was 10 years old back then and I don't think I have seen a more exciting game live or on TV since. It was pure MAGIC.

It was an important game, huge away support stoking the atmosphere, disastrous start taking us to the depths, a glimmer of hope, and then 45 mins of unadulterated joy. Only Derby in the playoffs and VE Day came close for me.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Yeah I was there that day. I remember Paul Mariner playing well for Plymouth. He was off to Ipswich for a big fee shortly after. Jim Furnell and Bobby Saxton also played for Plymouth that day. I seem to remember Stuart Metcalfe scoring a bloody stupid own goal for them also.

Drove round the boulevard that morning (a few times) with the top down on the car, black and green scarves everywhere, still gave it them with the colours, nearly got caught out though with a taxi pulling out a bit quick at the station and stopping all the traffic !! Fantastic day though, you just knew it was going to go well for the rest of the season

Mattyblue Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Just a shame the Riverside wasn't ever properly rebuilt, yes it was just an open terrace by the late 80s, but the replacement was shoddy as soon as it was erected. So out of keeping with the rest of a fantastic ground. Obviously redeveloping it isn't exactly on the club's radar, and even if it was we certainly don't need a stand any bigger, just seems like a missed opportunity in both its initial rebuild and in our established PL era. Yes Riversiders, I know you love it

Surely they can fit a more modern roof.Although from what I hear it needs constant maintenance just to keep in the state that it is.
Mike Graham Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I remember that Plymouth game well. Blackburn had been painted green that morning but the a Rovers Team did the business that day.....brilliant memories. There is a good view of the old Blue and White Supporters Club on the Ewood Triangle on one of those aerial photos.

That was where I was dragged to as a kid.... until it was knocked down... so we frequented the Waters Edge.... until it was knocked down.... then the Aqueduct.... until it was kn... turned into a bike shop.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Nice picture of them building the new concrete BBE Roof...must have been taken from the top of the Old Darwen end Floodlights!
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Easily my favourite game of all time. Rovers 7- Spurs 2 for me. That's the best I've seen us play ever. Could have easily been 10 or 11 that day, we were awesome. Like beating Chelsea or Arsenal by that score today.
47er Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 The 7-2 thrashing of Spurs was one of the great days but its still the 3-3 FA 6th Round draw at Turd for me!

I always thought it was such a freakish coincidence that on the day Kenny was unveiled as our new manager, we also beat Plymouth Argyle 5-2. That game in 74/75 was incredible and very similar (as someone else has said) to the first leg of the play off semi against Derby.
ABBEY Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 I remember being sat in the hairdressers on ewood with my mum and all the windows getting put in .
BlueMonday Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 I remember being sat in the hairdressers on ewood with my mum and all the windows getting put in . Jeez Ab's, was it a perm or just a rinse?
Speedie Dived Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 I remember being sat in the hairdressers on ewood with my mum and all the windows getting put in . I have had a few bad haircuts in my time but putting the windows through was a touch excessive. Just don't tip. :-)
1arC Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 That was my first ever game. Love at first sight. That's amazing that was your first game. No wonder it was love at first sight! I had been going for about 3 years and loved the club, like I loved my family and friends. No matter what happens memories like that can never be taken away and the very reason we all post on here no doubt!
Rover_Shaun Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Some eye opening pics from 1987 http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rovers/news/14240451.IN_PICTURES__30_retro_Blackburn_Rovers_fan_photos_that_will_fill_you_with_pride___/?ref=mac Those 87 pics look so old fashioned. Colt Seavers Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Found myself on the photo from the Brewers Arms in 1992! Don't remember a thing about it to be honest.

SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Noticed a few lads from around the Ewood area, some sadly no longer with us. The memories last forever.

A memorable game indeed but didn't the Argyle fans arrive mostly via Arnold Wallace coaches who had done a deal for the game packing the entire Ewood car park with their coaches.
