For matches at Ewood, the best I can remember was the third division championship season in 1974/75. We were second in the league and Plymouth were top. Loads of Plymouth fans arrived very early in the morning on a train and rampaged around the town centre, wrecking the place. We went two down very early on we then missed a penalty. We then pulled one back on the stroke of half time. In the second half we were absolutely awesome, scoring 4 and went on to win the game 5-2. I was 10 years old back then and I don't think I have seen a more exciting game live or on TV since. It was pure MAGIC.

That game had everything you need for a classic. It was an important game, huge away support stoking the atmosphere, disastrous start taking us to the depths, a glimmer of hope, and then 45 mins of unadulterated joy. Only Derby in the playoffs and VE Day came close for me.

That was my first ever game. Love at first sight.

Drove round the boulevard that morning (a few times) with the top down on the car, black and green scarves everywhere, still gave it them with the colours, nearly got caught out though with a taxi pulling out a bit quick at the station and stopping all the traffic !!

Fantastic day though, you just knew it was going to go well for the rest of the season

Easily my favourite game of all time.

Just a shame the Riverside wasn't ever properly rebuilt, yes it was just an open terrace by the late 80s, but the replacement was shoddy as soon as it was erected.

So out of keeping with the rest of a fantastic ground. Obviously redeveloping it isn't exactly on the club's radar, and even if it was we certainly don't need a stand any bigger, just seems like a missed opportunity in both its initial rebuild and in our established PL era.

Yes Riversiders, I know you love it ^_^

Don't love those bleedin posts. Surely they can fit a more modern roof.

Although from what I hear it needs constant maintenance just to keep in the state that it is.

I remember that Plymouth game well.

Blackburn had been painted green that morning but the a Rovers Team did the business that day.....brilliant memories.

There is a good view of the old Blue and White Supporters Club on the Ewood Triangle on one of those aerial photos.

That was where I was dragged to as a kid.... until it was knocked down... so we frequented the Waters Edge.... until it was knocked down.... then the Aqueduct.... until it was kn... turned into a bike shop.

I always thought it was such a freakish coincidence that on the day Kenny was unveiled as our new manager, we also beat Plymouth Argyle 5-2. That game in 74/75 was incredible and very similar (as someone else has said) to the first leg of the play off semi against Derby.

That's amazing that was your first game. No wonder it was love at first sight! I had been going for about 3 years and loved the club, like I loved my family and friends. No matter what happens memories like that can never be taken away and the very reason we all post on here no doubt!

Aren't some of those pictures at Wembley from Charity Shield games in the early 90s?

A memorable game indeed but didn't the Argyle fans arrive mostly via Arnold Wallace coaches who had done a deal for the game packing the entire Ewood car park with their coaches.
