I wish there was some way to easily identify if posters were at the game. Not just this thread but all post match threads. I do pay attention more to those, whatever their views, who were there.

One thing for sure imo that you can really judge if you are at a game is if players are putting the effort in.

I struggle to handle the concept of a footballer not really trying.

Which brings me on to Olsson.........door......close on the way out.

Look what happened at Chelski

It is beginning to appear like that. I hope PL is up to the task of binning as many as it takes.

I still think that they are just a very bang average group of players who are terrified of succeeding and failing at a higher level.

NOTE: is there any spell-check that works on this MB?

I don't think they are scared of failing at a higher level , I think they have reached their highest level and know that time is up and are just going thru the motions.

Looks like he's found his position at right back.

Were you at the Milton Keynes match ? Marshall got taken apart by a pacy winger (admittedly he was on his own down the right flank after Henley was sent off) but I'm always suspicious of wingers converted into full backs. Yes, they're good going forward but they usually cannot do their basic job of being able to defend.

Ok show 'em the door

Wingers have been full backs since Alf Ramsey's time with the modern trend being they have to be a slight build with an inabilty to tackle.

Yes it does. But they need to show that fight from the first whistle and put opposing teams on their arse straight away. Not many teams enjoy playing away from home but we show them the welcome mat.

No argument there. It's a carryover from the Bowyer era, where the players would only come to life once they were chasing the game. At least one encouraging sign is that we're not shipping many goals under Lambert. Apart from the Sheff Wed match, we've only conceded a goal a game.

Singing and chanting Stuart....who from? Just had a text to say officially less than 8,000 were on last night, just over 1/4 full.

We didn't get that last night, we just got some noise. Maybe it sounds louder when you are in it.

No, what I meant was singing and chanting are what we need. A couple of thousand can manage it away, why can't a couple of thousand in the BBE do the same?

It was pointed out to me on several occassions, that it's the responsibility of manager and players to stir the crowd into response.

True enough. I guess we need to bring in better personnel so that quality improves and even options from the bench that do genuinely excite. They must be out there.

I agree with you totally about modern day full backs Jim, but this is the World we live in. Last one we had who you wouldn't want to play against ( essential requirement in my book ) was maybe Warnock or Lucas Neill.

Yeah, the goals against has been an improvement. I was reading that David Dunn had been on the phone to Big Sam asking advice as to what attacking formation to play. From what I read Sam said " Forget all that, you need to start keeping clean sheets first. "

As a flying winger in my pomp I definitely wouldn't want to play against John Bray !

I think I've mentioned this before but in about August 1963 I was invited in to Ewood to watch a full scale pre season practice match. It was first team defence and reserve attack versus first team attack and reserve defence. So John Bray was marking Mike Harrison. " The Tank " gave a Harrison a real kicking throughout the game ! Jack Marshall was refereeing and Harrison never stopped moaning to him about Bray's tackling.

From Wigan, a proper full back, legs like tree trunks. I remember him giving Bobby Charlton a good kicking. Nobody got past him and if they did they were scythed down next time.

Going back to last night and the manager debate, it's easy to forget that football is essentially a simple game. You can forget about tactics and formations and whoever is in charge because the team with the better players usually wins.

The trouble is, better players cost money.

If we can't spend any money on players, the likelihood of improving the quality diminishes. Money at the top has caused a chasm between the leagues, we've not invested a large amount since Rhodes, Best, Murphy et al and since then the gap has grown.

Replacing all the costly premier league and initial Kean flops with similar quality on 25% of the wages was a really difficult job for anyone. Then getting it promoted in a quality style to rouse the fans with only the option of frees or cheap signings is nearly impossible.

I've said many times that the atmosphere has suffered due to the sheer lack of numbers in a big stadium. I've been critical of boycotters, but to be fair even I've missed lots (inc last night) in the past 4/5 seasons despite continuously having a season ticket for 24 years.

I don't know what the answer is but more re-engagement strategies are necessary just to fill the ground and give us chance to make some noise.

There is no doubt that atmosphere makes a difference, particularly when you've got many young inexperienced players. The nature of the away support in past couple of seasons has led to better performances away than at home IMO. This isn't always the case, I stood with a few thousand at Bolton and Preston and both performances couldn't have been different despite similar vocal support.

The short term answer is easy though. Results. Consistent results at home over a season will bring people back and confidence will see a return to some noise from fans who are conditioned to expect more misery.

I can't comment on the performance, but the result last night is not good enough to achieve what has become the aim- if there is no sign of this improving after a full season or two - we are going to have to find someone who can work with the reality of a squad chock full of players assembled on the cheap.

I think PL can do it, based on his previous exploits at Norwich. It's just no coincidence that when the only real "money" signing (Rhodes) stops scoring, the results aren't as good. Surely hitting him with long balls is just wasting our main asset?

Long term at least(hopefully...), we have the academy to give us a hand - looking at results recently, the restructure after Kean and co has improved the chances of us developing more gems!

Bray was from Great Harwood I think. Dave Whelan was from Wigan.

My first game in around 5 years and I can't believe the lack of atmosphere!? Hopefully this will improve against Brighton. Thought that Duffy did well (if he could direct headers he would be elsewhere) and Brown provided a threat up front, creating the space for akpan.

Listening to the after match comments - Steele and Spurr both thought we deserved to win - also from listening to radio Rovers it sounded like we had a few chances and QPR basically had one and scored.

Is this the opinion of those that attended too? No matter how 'low the quality' of football might (or might not) have been?

Think a draw was probably right. For a long time the equaliser looked a long way off to me.

Seen Shane Duffy's dad on facebook talking about abuse from our fans. I've said it before and i'll say it again, our fans are clueless morons in the majority... Strange to support a club and be so disconnected from your own fan base. I mean, I think Brown is crap but to laugh at him and to make fun off him... @#/? is that about? Bennett looked disgusted apparently. Inevitably fans will start to turn on Lambert and for me that could be the last straw to lose all interest.

Very difficult to be a Rovers fan these days.
