adopted scouser Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Anything would be better than the current anthem. Sod the bloody Queen...viva la republic!Oh dear. For sporting events ONLY, I'll have the stuffy old tune 'Land of Hope and Glory'.
yoda Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Anything would be better than the current anthem. Sod the bloody Queen...viva la republic! You mean change the monarch for a president, with more than likely more individual power
roverandout Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 It has to be something that celebrates englishness not britishness
Backroom Mike E Posted January 14, 2016 Backroom Posted January 14, 2016 It has to be something that celebrates englishness not britishness Do they do songs about queuing?
Baz Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 If its only for sporting events then why not something that will get the crowd going like We will rock you.
yoda Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 If its only for sporting events then why not something that will get the crowd going like We will rock you. The Queen singing at sporting events, nah, it will never catch on

yoda Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 There is only one contender in reality THERE'LL ALWAYS BE AN ENGLAND There'll always be an England,While there's a country lane,Wherever there's a cottage smallBeside a field of grain. There'll always be an England,While there's a busy street,Wherever there's a turning wheelA million marching feet. Red, white and blue,What does it mean to you?Surely you're proudShout it aloud. Britons awake! The Empire too,We can depend on you,Freedom remainsThese are the chainsNothing can break. There'll always be an England,And England shall be free,If England means as much to youAs England means to me. "This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,This other Eden, demi-paradise,This fortress built by Nature for herselfAgainst infection and the hand of war,This happy breed of men, this little world,This precious stone set in a silver sea,Which serves it in the office of a wall,Or as a moat defensive to a houseAgainst the envy of less happier landsThis blessed plot, this earth, this realmThis England" This always steals the show when performed at the last night of the Proms

Mike Graham Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Ging gang gooley gooley would go down a treat. Prince Philip would probably join in :-)
BlueMonday Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Blue Monday - It represents modern England, its more inclusive, not all of us are Royalists or imperialists and it would get the crowd going before sporting events. In my unbiased opinion
ABBEY Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 rather have flower of scotland than that god awful tune
BlueMonday Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 rather have flower of scotland than that god awful tune Living in Scotland as I do, that tune grates. To be honest, any anthem that doesn't blow smoke up the Royal Family's arse would be ok.

I don't know if Republicans are aware of this or simply don't like to be reminded but as of the last count you represent 13% of the UK population. Its quite unusual to have such a small minority insisting on insulting something the vast majority of people like but there ya go. For the record I'd have the return of the monarchy for a thousands years than have 1 week of Sturgeon and her vile spawn of nationalistic **** jockeys.
Beta Ray Bill Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE KIDDING MR. HITLER? Who do you think you are kidding Mr. Hitler If you think we're on the run We are the boys who will stop your little game We are the boys who will make you think again 'Cus who do you think you are kidding Mr. Hitler If you think old England's done Mr. Brown goes off to town on the 8:21 But he comes home each evening and he's ready with his gun So watch out Mr. Hitler, You have met your match in us If you think you can push us, We're afraid you've missed the bus 'Cus who do you think you are kidding Mr. Hitler If you think old England's done Just as with God Save the Queen, there's even lines most people don't know exist.

How can one person's view represent 13 per cent of the population ? As it happens 50% of Scots support the monarchy according to this poll (admittedly 4 years old), which is fewer than in England and Wales but still pretty solid and a long way from the silly drivel you've posted. http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2012/may/24/queen-diamond-jubilee-record-support

First up, Im English & proud of the fact. Second, the Queen is still Head of State of England AND Scotland so no need for a return, but I'll wager you it won't be for a 1000 years. Im not really interested if Im in a minority, I think hereditary power and privilege is an anachronism in a modern society. Nothing insulting in that. I have a democratic right to express that opinion. And Blue Monday would make a great anthem.
